Union Mills Wilderness 5K &10K (Formerly Box Creek Event)

10 am kick off on 2/28/2026- Union Mills, NC

Union Mills Learning Center is presenting the 5th annual Union Mills Wilderness 5K & 10K on Saturday, February 28, 2026 (Formerly Box Creek Event -- just a name change). The 10K boasts spectacular scenery, taking runners alongside the Second Broad River, the CSX Railroad, and around the base of Rocky Face Mountain and the area now known as Box Creek Wilderness. 5K participants can walk or run the route that will begin at Union Mills Learning Center. Both races are scheduled to start at 10am.

*No T-shirt guaranteed to be received before the race if not registered by the 16th .

*Both the 5k and 10k will be in the ROC series points race for 2026. 1 additional point earned for the 10k (make note)!!

  • WE WILL HAVE RACE DAY SIGN UPS RACE MORNING!

  • Pre Made race goodie bags will be distributed race morning at packet pick up. The bag will include your disposable timing chip (wear on your chest), Race T-shirt, and a few small sponsored items.

*Refreshments will be prepackaged and self served at both the finish-line area in the auditorium and on the course.

  • An awards ceremony will be held in the facility auditorium. A face book Live video will take place. Awards will be mailed if anyone leaves before the ceremony. Find your results under RacingToes.com

T shirt dead line Feb 16th. Due to demand and the ability to receive shipments from the vendor in a timely manner, shirt colors may vary.

Top 3 places (Male & Female) in each Age Group:

1-12; 13-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70 & over.

No school level awards will be determined by race times. Be sure to join your School's roster during the registration process.

    How many times can you run a 0.34 mile segment? How about if the time to complete gets shorter and shorter by the hour?

    This race will be a modified version of a last man standing style race.

    For the first hour, you will run the segment every 6 minutes. That time will reduce by 1 minute each hour. After the 4th hour the segment time will cap at 3:00 minutes. The race will end when there is only 1 person left.

    Every two hours we will pause for 10 minutes for a bathroom break.
