The Divide 200 celebrates our Rocky Mountain heritage, and highlights portions of the stunning Great Divide Trail. Our vision for The Divide 200 is to keep you up high and exploring the varied landscape of the Continental Divide. The route includes the Castle and Crowsnest region of the southern Rockies. The course is a combination of single track, double track, a small amount of road, cross-country, and even a bit of bushwhacking and scrambling. The race is about alpine travel, ridge walks, and getting you into remote backcountry. NEW! For 2026 we are introducing a limited number of spots for Relay teams and a new 100k course. See the website for details. This event is for people with a great deal of ultramarathon experience and proficiency in alpine travel. There will be some sections of route-finding even though it is a prescribed course; the terrain can just be really gnarly out there. If you have done a 100k or longer ultra, you are probably physically ready – just keep in mind that

the physical part is only half the battle. Checkpoints are every 20 to 40km apart, depending on the section of the race. Competitors are required to carry a Garmin inReach, provided by us, for both route finding and safety. The race is capped at 100 entrants. We are offering a large prize purse for the top three female and male 200-mile solo competitors, with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers receiving $5,000, $2,500, and $1,750 respectively (all in CDN$). See the website for details. Follow The Divide 200 group on Facebook for updates as they happen. What you get, and why you should sign up: * The Challenge: This race doesn’t just test your stamina; it’s a battle of mind over matter. The course will tear you down, but it’ll also make you rise and find new strength. * Full Support, No Shortcuts: We’re not throwing you to the wolves – you’ll have everything you need to survive this beast. You’ll feel the wilderness, the weather, and the challenge with every single KM. * Running Community Vibes: Join a group of like-minded maniacs who don’t shy away from tough. Fernie Tears and Gears was inspired by two friends who loved to trail run (Abi) and mountain bike (Krista), but could never find an event to compete in together. Thus, Fernie’s first Mountain Duathlon was born in 2010 and was held annually until 2019 marking the race's 10th Anniversary. After a six year hiatus, Tears and Gears is back to raise funds for the newly established Abi Moore Scholarship Fund and to continue to encourage people to get out on our amazing trail network, have fun while doing it, support one another, and be a part of an inclusive and welcoming community.

Get into fall running mode and enjoy the Castle Mountain Resort area. Castle is a secluded gem of a place that everyone should make an effort to visit.

Castle Alpine Trail Race (let's call it CAT, OK?) combines wide-open vistas, rugged single track, off-trail running, and so much delicious climbing. While it isn't an extraordinarily long race distance-wise, CAT is like a schoolyard bully - it's going to rough you up and doesn't relent the whole day.

This is a classic trail run covering two mountain summits and one of the most serene alpine valleys in the region. Each stage starts and ends at Castle Mountain Resort, so you don't even really need a support crew - just park your kit in the staging area and do some quick transitions. Leg 1 runs clockwise, Leg 2 counterclockwise, and Leg 3 clockwise.

After the race, Castle Mountain is planning some live music and more fun as we shut down the mountain. Castle offers a variety of accommodations including private rooms, a hostel, and BnBs so make a weekend out of it and enjoy your stay. Being that it is September, you can expect a chance of snow and definitely a bone-chilling wind at the top of the mountain, or it can be hot... so bring all the gear!

While you're here, check out the flora and fauna. Castle is known for its wildlife viewing and exploring in the spring through fall, before the ski season starts.

Climb to the heights of the Castle!

Be sure to check out the Racer Details for complete event information.
