Cockaponsett Trails to a Cure

It’s back! (and hopefully back for good!) After a 7 year pause and a change of ownership, the Deer Lake Trail Run is back. Deer Lake Outdoor Center, formerly Deer Lake Scout Reservation, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to accessible outdoor education while protecting their more than 250 acres of green space and miles of trails. Come to rural Killingworth, CT to run (or hike) the Deer Lake Trail Run. The challenging 5(ish)-mile course, involving almost 500 ft of elevation gain, traverses the 250+ acre property and offers many scenic views as you navigate the ever-changing elevations on well-marked trails. This is a true trail course, and the technical nature of the terrain will mean that you will be exposed to rocks, roots, possible mud, etc. There will be awards for male & female winners in each age group listed below as well as the overall male & female winners. Awards will be given to the overall male and female winners and the m/f winners for each of the following age groups:

0 - 12 yrs. (Please note that anyone participating under 10 years of age must be accompanied by an adult along the entire racecourse)

13-19 yrs.

20-29 yrs.

30-39 yrs.

40-49 yrs.

50-59 yrs.

60-69 yrs.

70+ yrs.

July 4- The 48th annual Four-on the-Fourth road race sponsored by the Chester Rotary Club will start at 9 AM Friday July 4

Runners can register with RunSignup.com from March 1. The Adult fees are $35 through May 26; $40 from May 27 through race day. Flat fee for Children age 16 and under is $15.

The race loops through the village of Chester and is USATF sanctioned. Timing will be provided by Super Race Systems. Team and individual awards will be presented.

The race is a major fund raiser for the Chester Rotary. All proceeds are distributed to local charities and non-profit organizations. For more information and race packet pick-up times visit www.chesterrotary.org as the date draws near.

The Ivoryton Pumpkin Chase is a 5K Road/Trail Race and a Kiddie Pumpkin Fun Run (age 7 and below) to benefit the Ivoryton Library and takes place in peak foliage season of southern New England. The course begins along North Main Street for approximately ½ mile before turning left down Falls River Drive. At the one mile mark, the course enters the Falls River Preserve for a 1.1 mile trail loop that meanders along the Falls River. The trail is double track for about ½ mile before it turns into hilly and rocky single track. Care must be taken on the trail due to the presence some jagged rocks and roots. Please be aware that the trail can be slippery in wet conditions.

Participants will receive a free t-shirt with registration before September 18. Registrations after September 18 and day of registrations will receive a t-shirt while supplies last.
