10 WEEKS TO ULTRA TRAIL AUSTRALIA!

THE LEGENDARY BMF UTA NIGHT RUN

If you think you will take more than 12 hours on the UTA100 or UTA50 you will be running at night! If you are doing the Miler you will be running through at least one night!

The Jamison Valley takes on a very different atmosphere at night. The darkness, the sounds, the way you pick your way along the last few km of single track.

You will also get some solid stair and hill training done or just get a cruisy guided run in the Blue Mountains .... at night!

The experienced trainers from BLUE MOUNTAINS FITNESS teamed up again with THE BODY MECHANIC. We align our BMF UTA Training Runs with STREEK.RUN UTA Base Training Plans (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced) and the Event Specific UTA11, UTA22, UTA50 and UTA100 Race Training Plans.

THE COURSE: This training run starts at Violet St, opposite Scenic World. We'll head to Echo Point and drop down into the valley via Giant Stairs. We’ll then head through Leura Forest to the turn off to the Old Sewer Plant. We’ll then start descending Kedumba towards The Helipad, Leura Falls Creek and Jamison Creek before turning around. Depending on how deep you go into Kedumba will determine your total distance for the run. The training course will be a mix of the UTA11, UTA22, UTA50, UTA100 and UTA Miler course - plenty of stairs, hills, single tracks and fire trails. We'll let you and our trainers negotiate the extra km when you get out of Kedumba!

We’ll get a lot of stairs and a big part of the Kedumba firetrails done on all the distance options.

Running in the dark down in the valley is a totally different experience!

The training course route may change due to UTA Course changes and/or National Parks/Council closures, landslides, floods or any unforeseen circumstances. We will update details if required.

BLUE MOUNTAINS FITNESS is one of only a few companies with a National Parks and Wildlife ECO PASS licence to carry out run training on the Ultra Trail Australia course. We have been training runners for 15 years to complete the arduous UTA course since 2011. We have highly experienced trainers who know the trails better than most.

We are NPWS ECO PASS licensed and insured to carry out this training within the National Park.

WHY? This is a great training run to get on the UTA50, UTA100 and UTA Miler courses at night. See where you are at with your training. The Run Trainers at BMF have a wealth of experience to pass on - race prep, race gear, training and race nutrition, race strategy, pacing and info on the course.

We do not leave runners and walkers behind. We have plenty of options with the different pace groups and distances. Our Run Trainers are highly experienced and will see who is doing it easy and also those who are finding it not so easy!

PACE GROUPS. We'll have 3 Pace Groups - The MIGHTY TURTLES, a MID PACED group and the SPEEDY HARES.

We may even have a Walker Group and a Walk Trainer if required.

GEAR. We will be using this as a race day prep run and ask you to bring the UTA50 Mandatory gear. Please bring 2 x working lights.

START TIME. Turtles pace group will start at 6:00pm.

Hares and Mid Paced groups will also start at 6.00pm but do a little bit of extra trail giving the Turtles a head start.

Sunset is at 7:28pm so by the time we get down into the Kedumba Valley we'll be heading into darkness.

START LOCATION: Violet Street, Katoomba - opposite Scenic World.

DISTANCE. 20km to 37km

FINISH TIME. We expect to be finished in 4-6 hours maximum depending on your pace and distance chosen, and hopefully before midnight! There will be a chance to swap groups during the run. You will not be left behind! Our guides are very experienced and will keep the groups together but still push the fitter, faster runners if needed.

NUTRITION. Please bring enough fuel and hydration for around 4-5 hours of time of time on feet walking/jogging/running.

MINIMUM AGE. We have a minimum age of 16 on this particular training run.

OTHER INFORMATION. Our Trainers are very experienced trainers with a huge knowledge of the area, the UTA courses and what is needed to get the best result for you on Race Day. The Trainers will discuss gear, race strategy, nutrition, pacing, aid stations, what to wear or pack for the race and how to pack it.

    The steep terrain, stairs, single tracks and terrain of the Grose Valley will challenge everyone.

    Training on course has been a key factor in runners doing well at the event.

    THE COURSE

    The training course will start at Twin Falls Road, near the All View private property and run along the cliff top track to Govetts Leap. We'll continue along the cliff top track to Evans Lookout and descend the many stairs into the Grand Canyon and follow the loop to Neates Glen. From Neates Glen we'll head back to Evans lookout, Govetts Leap and back to the start. Optional extra distance is available during the session.

    This is the 17km course and the first 17km of the Marathon.

    We do not leave runners and walkers behind. We have plenty of options with the different pace groups and distances. Our Run Trainers are highly experienced and will see who is doing it easy and also those who are finding it not so easy!

    PACE GROUPS. We'll have 3 Pace Groups - The MIGHTY TURTLES and the HARES with a MEDIUM paced group in between. Our Trainers will be doing extra distance in preparation for other ultramarathons so if you are up for a faster/longer add on then we'll invite you along!

    GEAR. We will be using this as a race day prep run and ask you to bring the Hounslow Classic Mandatory gear.

    START TIME. 9:00am

    The training course will start at Perry's Lookdown Car Park and descend the 2.5km of stairs into the Grose Valley. We cross the Grose River and climb the rough trail up Lockleys to the Lockleys Pylon summit. We then run along the tricky single track to the Pinnacles Car Park. We then return to Perry's. Optional turn around at Lockleys Pylon.
