The biggest block party in downtown Birmingham starts at the starting line. Red Shoe Run: Rockin’ 5K is a high-energy morning filled with music, movement, and meaning — all to help families stay close during their child’s medical journey.

Every registration provides nights of rest, warm meals, and comfort for families staying at Ronald McDonald House Alabama. Whether you’re running the 5K, walking the 1 Mile Fun Run, or joining as a Snoozer from home, your steps create a lasting impact.

After you cross the finish line, the celebration continues with a DJ, awards, and a community that knows how to have fun for a cause. Together, we’re making Family Stays possible.

Lace up your shoes and join us for an exciting day of fitness and community spirit at the 2026 UAB Alumni Scholarship Run Presented by VIVA Health on Saturday, April 18! This event offers something for everyone, whether you're a seasoned runner or just looking for a fun way to support a great cause. We're returning to Crestline Village again this year for a beautiful and FLAT route, and the race will be chipped and timed. The 10k race is two loops on the 5k route.

Can’t make it in-person or can’t run? Join our virtual run while supporting student scholarships by signing up to participate in spirit.

Our Scholarship Run helps further the mission of the NAS and allows us to raise money to support current and future students at UAB. Your support will allow us to continue to provide services that currently exist and to provide even more opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

All participants (5K, 10K, Fun Run, virtual) will receive a packet with a t-shirt and finisher medal. Winner medals will be awarded to the 1st place finishers overall (5k and 10k races only) and in each age and gender group. If registering after Friday, April 10, desired run t-shirt size not guaranteed. Online registration for the 5K, 10K, and Fun Runs will close at 11:59:59 pm on Friday, April 17. If registering for an in-person event on Saturday, April 18, all registrations will take place onsite.

Strollers at the Race: If you are participating with a stroller and/or children, we ask that you keep your children with you at all times, and that you start from the back of the run group. This will allow your family members, and our other participants, a safer race experience.

Pets at the Race: Only certified support animals will be allowed to participate and must remain on leash at all times.

CANCELLATION STATEMENT: This event will occur rain or shine. The UAB Alumni Scholarship Run Presented by Viva Health reserves the right to cancel in extreme circumstances. In the event of cancellation, there will be no refunds.

    About the Scholarship Run

Each spring, the UAB National Alumni Society hosts its annual Scholarship Run. Started in 2007, the Scholarship Run has allowed the NAS to raise more than $1 million to help support student scholarships. The Scholarship Run has established itself as an exceptional annual run for alumni and friends.

The NAS is a 501(c)(3) committed to serving UAB alumni and students through engaging events and resources. We are humbled to be able to provide student scholarships each year through our fundraising events. This much needed assistance is awarded to a wide range of students including first year, first-gen, legacy, and graduate students. Increasing the amount of scholarship dollars provided to students is an instrumental goal of the NAS.
