    About the Event:

    Stair Climb: There were 1,980 steps in the Towers that fell on 9/11. That's 17 times up & down 120 stairs in the Lake Co. Fairgrounds Grandstand. You will be given 17 pennies, dropping off 1 after each lap completed. When your pennies are gone, you are finished! Are you up for the challenge?

    1 Mile Non-timed Walk is for those who don't wish to do stairs but still want to participate to honor our 9/11 Heroes.

    Participants receive:

    • Finisher Medal for FIRST 200 to sign up

    • Wristband with the name of a 9/11 Hero, a firefighter or police officer who died on 9/11 & for whom you will be climbing or walking. We encourage you to look up your hero & even bring their picture with you.

    Who is YOUR First Responder? The list at the TOP (coming soon) matches participants you with the name of the 9/11 Hero for whom you will be climbing. Please research your Hero & print a photo of them to include in our on-site memorial.

    Cost: Climb is $30 Adults. Walk & Kids 3-12: $20. Under 3 are free. Shirts extra $16 thru 8/31.

    -- Police, Firefighter & EMTs: SAVE $9.11 by using code 911 at checkout when registering online. Please show proof of service (badge, ID, etc) at packet pickup. Event day: $30 all ages & no Finisher Medal.

    Supports purchase of SWAT-T tourniquets. These smaller tourniquets are used by Crown Point Fire=Rescue to save the lives of kids and pets.

    Event Timeline:

    4:30 - 6p - Sign in. Participants can place

    Hero photos on our Memorial Wall.

    5 - 6:15p - “Fast” Division - Running stairs.

    6:15p - National Anthem. Honoring local

    First Responders. General Climb & Walk.

    Plank Challenge: Longest Plank wins the Plank Challenge Plaque: 6:30, 7:00 & 7:30 pm time slots. You can participate more than once.

    Early Packet Pickup: Thursday, 9/10 5-6 pm on north side of Crown Point Fire Station.

    Race Day: 4:30 pm before the event.

    Run for the Dogs 5k 5K features a scenic course!

    Join us on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at 9:00 AM for an exciting "Run for the Dogs Themed" event that features the scenic views of Lake County Fairgrounds in Crown Point, IN! With awesome swag for all dog lovers and runners, this race is a sure thing for a great doggy good time!

    5K Run/Walk in Downtown Crown Point

    Join Race the Region and the Old Sheriff's House Foundation for a fun and exciting 5K run/walk through the heart of Crown Point, Indiana. This fall event offers participants a chance to experience a flat, scenic route along beautiful, tree-lined Main Street, perfect for both competitive runners and casual walkers alike.

    Location: Downtown Crown Point, Indiana

    Course: The 5K route begins in front of the historic Old Sheriff's House and Jail, a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

    The Old Sheriff's House and Jail was once considered one of Indiana's finest and most secure jails. However, on March 3, 1934, the infamous gangster John Dillinger made a daring escape from this very jail, defying its reputation as "escape-proof."
