Celebrate Independence Day by participating in the 22nd Annual Firecracker 5K in Peru, Indiana!!! Awesome performance shirts, custom designed finisher medals, disposable tag timing, great food, cool grab bag goodies, a Garmin Forerunner Drawing, and awards (including Most Patriotic Participants) are all included (MUST register by June 27, 2026 in order to guarantee a shirt and a grab bag).

The event will be held on Friday, July 4, 2026 at 8:00AM at the Peru Fire Department, located on 85 W Canal St in Peru, IN. Race day registration is from 7:00AM to 7:45AM. Early Registration (Received by June 1, 2026) - $20.00/Late Registration - $25.00

Award categories include Overall Male/Female Finishers, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place Finishers (Male/Female) in the following Age Groups (14 and Younger, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+), AND Most Patriotic Participants.

Garmin Forerunner Drawing: All participants receive one entry. Register by June 27, 2026 for one additional entry. (Donated by Breakaway Bike Shop)

Proceeds benefit the Miami County YMCA where we focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility!

    You may pre-register (to assure that you receive a towel) or you can register the day of the race. Sign-ins are from 8:30-9:15am on race day at the Russiaville Lions Club at 555 North Liberty. The 5K begins promptly at 9:15am and the 1 Mile Fun Run will follow at 10:15am. All runners in the Fun Run ages 12 & under will receive a medal. The course heads south of Russiaville and curves back.

    Towels will be given to pre-registered runners/walkers first and will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

    We are proud to partner with Ainsley’s Angels of America, a non-profit group that aims to build awareness about America’s special needs community through inclusion in all aspects of life. They serve as advocates to provide education and participation as active members in their local communities. ALL RIDERS RIDE FREE IN BOTH RACES.

    Funds raised from both race registrations will be split between Ainsley's Angels and the Carl Koontz Scholarship Fund.

Choose run or walk options from a 13.1 half marathon, 10k, or 5k that will take you along the scenic WABASH RIVER TRAIL located along the Wabash River.     CHIP TIMER: Crossroads Event and Timing ⏱️

    START/FINISH LINE: Friendship Hill Inclusive Playground 🛹

    TERRAIN: Race will be on mostly paved trail with less than a mile of the half marathon on crushed gravel

    PARKING: There are several parking lots around Friendship Hill Inclusive Playground. We will have “EVENT PARKING” signs in the lots that are available to our participants. A few parking lots include the Honeywell Center, Pathfinder Services, YMCA’s big lot, and Clear Water Solutions. Again - look for the “EVENT PARKING” signs. See the parking map <HERE>.

    BATHROOMS: There will be several portable restrooms available at Friendship Hill Inclusive Playground and at each water station along the course.

    WEATHER: The event takes place RAIN OR SHINE with no inclement weather backup date. Some of the best and most memorable runs take place on days that aren't 70, sunny, and with no wind. No matter what the weather forecast says, run safely and make the most of it because we are sure glad you are here!

    The Director of Wabash County Emergency Management monitors the weather conditions closely. Should the event need to be canceled due to unsafe weather conditions, a notification will appear on the website and be pushed via the Wabash County Adventure Series Facebook page. Please note that no refunds are issued due to the advance purchase of hospitality services and support resources.

    RESULTS: After crossing the finish line there will be a few Results QR codes near the finisher water station. The results are updated every couple of minutes. You can scan the QR code and or check the results on RUNSIGNUP.

    AWARDS: The awards ceremony will be at 11 AM near the start/finish line. Thanks to our Corporate Sponsor, Chittick Insurance, we offer cash prizes for the top 3 overall finishers for male and female athletes! Cash prizes will be awarded to the overall top female and male finishers for the Half, the 10K, and the 5K.

    **High school and college athletes are ineligible to accept cash rewards in accordance with IHSAA regulations. Should a high school or college athlete place first, second or third, in any of the WRTR races those funds will be donated to a local charity in their honor. It is up to the athlete to comply with all IHSAA regulations and not the responsibility of WRTR or its staff and volunteers to enforce said guidelines.**

    TERRAIN: The race will be either on the road or a paved path. There will be turnaround flags on the course for each race with verification mats to know when you have reached the halfway point for each race length.

    WATER STATIONS: There will be 4 water stations along the trail: located at 1 mile, 2 miles, 4 miles, 6 miles. As you return, runners will hit the same water stops. Portable bathrooms are available at each water station. Water and Gatorade will be available at each water station.

    Bananas, Gatorade, and water will be available at the finish line.

    WRTR GEAR: Event muscle tanks are provided at the event for registrations though the April 30th deadline and can be picked up during check-in. All muscle tanks are adult sizes. Participants can check back by check-in/registration at 11:15 AM to see if there are any extra pint glasses or tanks available at a first-come, first-served basis.
