About the Run for East Lake 5K & Fun Run

The East Lake Foundation is thrilled to host the Run for East Lake 5K & Fun Run on Saturday, August 2nd, presented by the East Lake Family YMCA. The 5K race will start and finish at Charles R. Drew Charter School’s Junior and Senior Academy and the race will weave through the beautiful East Lake community highlighting the Villages of East Lake, East Lake Family YMCA, Charlie Yates Golf Course, and much more. The route will also provide participants the unique opportunity to run through the back 9 holes of historic East Lake Golf Club, home of the TOUR Championship, which will take place August 20-24, 2025. The Fun Run (400 meter dash) will take place in front of Charles R. Drew Charter School Junior and Senior Academy after the 5K and is open to all ages.

About the East Lake Foundation

Founded in 1995 by developer and philanthropist Tom Cousins, the East Lake Foundation collaborates with The Villages of East Lake residents, Charles R. Drew Charter School families, and other key service providers to ensure every member of our community has equitable access to the resources, tools and supports needed to thrive through its integrated and holistic model for community revitalization. The Foundation has helped to create mixed-income housing and infrastructure, educational opportunities from cradle to college, and community wellness and economic vitality activities such as entrepreneurship, career readiness, and financial literacy, among others, to ensure the East Lake neighborhood is recognized for what is possible and not defined by its past.

This innovative approach has proven that a community that had experienced disinvestment and a lack of opportunities for decades can be transformed into a neighborhood where children and their families thrive and experience increased upward mobility, improved health outcomes, and greater racial equity.

The success of the East Lake Initiative has served as the blueprint for a national model of holistic community redevelopment through Purpose Built Communities. Today, there are 27 additional Purpose Built Communities across the country — all of which are successfully creating opportunities for residents and building strong, economically diverse communities. Our events are designed to be fun for the entire family. With that in mind; any competitor, spectator, parent, volunteer, or sponsor, exhibiting unsportsmanlike conduct or interfering with the positive, competitive atmosphere of the event will be immediately disqualified, asked to leave the venue and course immediately with no refunds.

All registrations are final. There are no refunds, deferments, or transfers.

Event will take place rain or shine. In the event of extreme weather, we will cancel for the safety of the participants; there are no refunds in this case.

Participants that do not show up to race/event forfeit their right to any swag. No race gifts will be mailed, you must be present to receive medal and swag.

There will be Free parking at the race site until lot is full. Once the lot is full you will be directed to the overflow parking area where you will be shuttled to the race location.

Road Race for Education

The Road Race for Education, presented by Principle Intelligence, is an annual event located in the heart of East Atlanta. This event, now in its 45th year, brings together the East Lake Community and East Atlanta Neighbors to celebrate and advocate for quality education. The road race was previously named The Mohammed Ali Road Race in honor of the legendary athlete Muhammad Ali. This race symbolizes courage, determination, and community spirit.

In-person 5K registration Includes: Road Race for Education participant shirt (while supplies last), participant Medal, chipped-timed 5K road race - USTAF Certified Course, and Peachtree Qualifier.

Virtual 5K registration Includes: Road Race for Education participant shirt, Packet shipping not included in registration, and access to virtual results reporting.

Planning and Updates Timeline:

• All registrations are transferable; however, they are NON-REFUNDABLE. Please only sign up if you are 100% sure you are prepared to participate in the Road Race for Education 2026 in the selected format. Refunds will not be issued for registrations due to changes in race presentation.

• All participant packets must be picked up at the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam on: August 29, 2026, 1 PM - 5 PM

Participants of all ages, from young children to seasoned adults, enthusiastically join in the festivities, highlighting the race's inclusive nature and its significant impact on bridging generations and communities. Through this inclusivity, the race promotes community cohesion and nurtures a deeper understanding and appreciation of our shared humanity."

The community will be actively engaged in the course planning and volunteer opportunities.

Proceeds from the race directly support the mission of Mohammed Schools of Atlanta, providing crucial funding for educational resources, programs, and scholarships. By investing in independent education, the race helps to ensure that students receive a high-quality, values-based education that prepares them for academic success and future leadership roles.

The Road Race for Education 2026 weekend will include a community-wide service project. Please check back for more details closer to the race.
