The reason for this race: Miles Jacobsen is 10 years old and currently in 4th grade. His family moved to KC in 2021 when his dad was hired as the Lead Teaching Pastor at Heartland Community Church off Strang Line Rd in Olathe.

Miles Jacobsen is one of the many kids in Kansas City battling a brain tumor. Days after his 9th birthday in March 2024, he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. After a long year of chemotherapy, Miles is now awaiting the development of more targeted therapy that will help him fight the growth of this tumor. Despite these challenges, Miles is a joyful and active kid whose positive outlook has inspired hundreds, if not thousands, of people since his diagnosis. His heart beats strong for people of all ages who are enduring their own cancer journeys, and he’s always looking to lift other people’s spirits. He has taken to running over the last year as a way to raise funds and awareness for children’s brain tumors. As the namesake for the Miles for Miles Foundation, he is a young spokesperson raising awareness and funds for his own future, and the future of many kids who are fighting their own brain cancer battles.

Because brain tumor research is the least funded cancer research in the country, every donation matters! That’s why the proceeds from this race will be donated to The Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation to support their work helping families affected by pediatric brain tumors, and to fund cutting edge medical research.

Proceeds of this race will be donated to The Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation on behalf of the Miles for Miles Foundation.

We will offer a flat, fast 1 mile road race on a certified course at 7am followed by a flat, fast 5K road race at 7:30am. Those who want to participate in both races can sign up for the Miles Challenge.

On signing up, each entrant will be given a unique "snake name." As a runner, if you encounter a snake on the trail, simply identify yourself with your snake name, then give the snake as wide a berth as possible, and the snake will leave you in peace. Molesting snakes in any way violates the terms of our agreement with the snake population. When snakes and people meet, both should depart unharmed.

    3. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Please ensure your dog is capable of handling the distance and heat.

    4. No jogging strollers or other wheeled vehicles. You're welcome to try, but we reserve the right to film it and post the results to YouTube. :)
