Join us for the spring session of the 2026 Fast Track 5k and 10K Training Program (Kalamazoo) presented by Kalamazoo Area Runners (KAR). The Fast Track program offers two levels of workouts designed to meet your goals whether beginner or experienced runner. Led by trained KAR coaches, the program targets the Kalamazoo Klassic and includes training schedules, individual guidance, clinics and structured Wednesday track workouts in a fun and supportive environment. The Wednesday track sessions are conducted 6:00 to 7:30 pm at WMU Kanley Track and programs run 9 weeks from April 14 to June 9.

    Program Levels:

    • Fast Track II (Introduction to Speedwork 5k & 10k Program) – Geared towards transitioning a runner who has some 5k and/or 10k running experience, but is new to track workouts and is looking for a lower mileage program (under 20 miles/week).

    • Fast Track III (Competitive Speedwork 5k & 10k Program) – Geared towards competitive runners with 5k and/or 10k racing and track workout experience who are seeking optimal performance and/or a higher mileage (20 + miles week).

The program is $35 to members of KAR and registration will remain open through May 15 or until the 50 participant cap is attained, whichever is sooner. Participants may join (new members) or renew (existing members) their KAR membership upon registration. (Membership is $20/student; $25/individual and $35/household per year.

    FAST TRACK TRAINING PLAN

    5K & 10K Training

    Objective

The overall objective of Fast Track is to make you a fundamentally faster runner. That starts with organizing training groups. Training partners make it easier and more enjoyable to run fast. Once we have training groups put together, we will work on several of the secrets of running faster: springy muscles and quicker muscle contraction. Along the way we will improve things like lactic threshold, anaerobic capacity, lactic buffering, and aerobic capacity, all of which is intended to not only make you a faster runner but give you the confidence to run faster.

    Overview

The Wednesday track workouts will cycle through three separate sub-target-race distance paces and one target race distance pace workouts. In the cycle, one day’s workout will be intervals at mile race pace, one day at 3k race pace, one day at 800 race pace, and one day at 5k or 10k pace. The pace for the intervals will be based on your current VO2Max ability (or goal race pace). The second time through the cycle, the pace will be dropped to match the improvement in your fitness.

    Session Organization

Practices will start with an explanation of the workouts and its goals. Then, to prepare for running fast, we will do a warm-up run followed by warm-up drills. After the warm-up we will break into pace groups. The pace groups will be organized according to VO2Max paces. After the workout we will always do a cool-down run and some stretching (if time). The number of intervals will always be given in a range, the Fast Track II runners (those runner fewer miles per week) can do the shorter end of the range, and the Fast Track III runners can do the high end of the range.

    The Mission:

Run with Purpose – Join Travis for a Day of 5Ks Supporting Local Veterans

On Saturday, April 18th, come out to Walkers Park in Elkhart, IN and be part of an inspiring challenge led by Travis, who will be running 10 consecutive 5Ks—one every hour, starting at 6:00 a.m. and continuing through 3:00 p.m.

This event is more than just a run. Travis is raising funds for The Faith Mission of Elkhart, a local homeless shelter that provides short-term respite and vital support to veterans in our community.

🏃‍♂️ Whether you want to run one leg, two legs, or all ten, you're welcome to join Travis on the course. 💙 Every step helps raise awareness and support for those who’ve served. Also brings awareness to health and fitness which is his passion as well.

This is also a 2026 Fleet Feet Race Series Event!

Come run, cheer, and make a difference.

    Free Option for 5K:

All are welcome to come run or walk for free! 5K's begin @ 6:00 a.m. Then every hour, on the hour, until 3:00 p.m.

    One Mile Fitness Walk:

Jen, Travis's wife, will be leading a one-mile fitness walk at noon. Fun for all ages & great for families!

    Single Person 5K Timed:

Looking to test your speed or endurance? Whether you're aiming to crush your fastest 5K time or complete all ten 5Ks in a single day, this event is your chance to push your limits. 5K's begin @ 6:00 a.m. Then every hour, on the hour, until 3:00 p.m.

Participants will be timed, and those interested can compete for the individual title of the day. To qualify for the overall winner, each 5K must be completed in under one hour, with the next race starting at the top of every hour. The final 5K time will determine the overall winner.

🏅 Everyone who completes all 10 races will earn a medal. 🏆 Top 3 overall awards will be given for both male and female participants.

Ready to rise to the challenge? DO SOMETHING EPIC!

    Team 5k:

Want to run as a team? We've got you covered. Gather your crew—teams of 2 to 6 runners—and join our timed endurance event.

Each team will receive a shared bib/transponder, and the challenge remains: complete each 5K in under one hour, starting at the top of every hour. The winning team will be determined by the time of their final 5K. 5K's begin @ 6:00 a.m. Then every hour, on the hour, until 3:00 p.m.

🏃‍♂️ Teams may rotate runners every lap (0.52 miles) or assign full 5Ks to individual members. 🚨 For fairness, the 10th and final run must be completed by a team member who has already run at least once during the day—no last-minute “ringer” substitutions allowed.

🏅 All finishers will receive medals. 🏆 Awards will be given to the top 3 teams.

Ready to take on the challenge together? DO SOMETHING EPIC!

Timing provided by our friends @ Fleet Feet of Mishawaka!

This Years Run is also Sponsored by The Law Offices of Wilson & Kinsman in Elkhart and by Fleet Feet of Mishawaka. When you enter you will receive a $15.00 Fleet feet in-store voucher. Which will be handed out the day of the event!

Pre-Order a shirt to guarantee yours! Pre-orders will be guaranteed up to 3/8/26! There will be extra shirts available for purchase the day of as well. While supplies last!

THE CPT DREW RUSSELL Warrior RUN IS GOING TO HAVE A "LIVE" AND VIRTUAL RACE FOR 2026
