Make a team or go solo and have a blast during our new Summer Sizzle Adventure Race Weekend with two races (one Saturday, another Sunday) in and around beautiful Lake Anna State Park. If you love being outdoors: paddling, hiking and/or biking trails, getting off the sidewalks, then this is the event for you. Navigate the park just as school is out and Summer begins with two beginner friendly 5-hour races with some more advanced checkpoints thrown in for our veteran racers.

So whether you are an adventure racing newcomer or looking for a full day of outdoor adventure we've got you covered, either way you finish on a beautiful beachside.

New to adventure racing? What is an adventure race? Simply put, Adventure Racing (AR) is an outdoor scavenger hunt / orienteering (navigating with a map and compass) but via multiple modes of travel: on-foot, biking & paddling. Unlike your average 10K/5K, marathon or obstacle course race where there is a strict roped off race course to follow; with orienteering/AR you are given a map with marked checkpoints (CPs), and its up to you/your team to navigate and find as many CPs as you can within the time limit. The best teams work together and help each other to not only go fast, but also efficiently; acquiring the most checkpoints wins (fastest time as tie-breaker).

• These are both USARA-sanctioned events (both races score USARA national ranking points).

• Both Races will score points for the Virginia State Parks Adventure Series

2/3/4-Person Teams, Family Division & Soloist Divisions

Registration Covers/Includes:

  • Kayak/Canoe (we provide boat, paddle and lifejacket "PFD")

  • Race shirt

  • must register before Apr. 1 to guarantee race shirt.

  • High quality topographic race map(s)

  • Race pictures / photographer

  • Post-Race Meal (actual food, not just snacks)

  • Custom Awards for top 3 in each division:

  • Solo (Female & Male)

  • 2-Person Teams (Mixed, Female & Male)

  • 3-person Teams (Mixed, Female & Male)

  • 4-person Teams (Mixed, Female & Male)

  • Family Division (4-hour race only)

  • Parking Fee, land use permits, insurance, rentals, etc.

    The Kinetic Triathlon Festival features the Mid-Atlantic’s first Long Course race of the season along with an Olympic on Saturday and a Sprint on Sunday. Staged out of beautiful Lake Anna State Park, this race features a sandy beach start, a crisp (mid 60’s) freshwater swim, rolling country roads for the bike and a run course that stays completely within the State Park. The race is amazing for so many reasons, but the best part is the park itself. Banked stadium style seating overlooks the swim start/finish, run course and finish line. Bring the family as the park features miles of trails, a playground, swimming beach and visitors center featuring a “gold mine”. Outside the park you can relax post race at the Lake Anna Winery or the Coyote Hole Cider Works. Be sure to race with friends and make some new ones at the Kinetic Triathlon Festival!

    The Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival features Olympic and Sprint distance races staged out of beautiful Lake Anna State Park.     Want something fun to do with the friends and family the day after Thanksgiving? Need to burn off some energy? Come enjoy the scenic & challenging courses at Lake Anna State Park! The 5k course is a trail run, while the 10k and half are 50% trail and 50% paved road.

    Walkers are welcome to attend this event.

    Please note that runners are required to pay the park entrance fee on their own or use a state park pass to enter the park!
