10 Miles 20 Miles Run Trail

Shake off winter and charge into spring at the Eklutna Lake IceBreaker Run, a lakeside trail race that delivers all the beauty, and all the chaos, of Alaska in March. Set along the frozen shoreline of Eklutna Lake, this out-and-back adventure offers 10-mile and 20-mile courses on one of Chugach State Park’s most scenic corridors.

Runners will stride (or crunch, or slide) across the lakeside trail as it winds alongside the frozen water of Eklutna Lake. And since we all know March in Alaska refuses to pick a season, you can expect a full sampler of winter conditions: packed snow, punchy snow, ice sheets, mashed-potato mush, muddy patches, unexpected sunshine, maybe even that perfect “winter glow” light that makes you forget your toes are cold for exactly half a second. Whatever the weather, this race is sure to breathe some life back into you after another long Alaska winter.

Eagle River Triathlon is the 2026 USA Triathlon Alaska State Championship.

The Eagle River Triathlon has a stunning course in Chugiak, Alaska just 20 miles north of Anchorage. Known for its spectacular views, and fun, yet challenging bike course, the Eagle River Tri course is a favorite among racers in Alaska. The State Championship events are the Olympic and Sprint distance triathlons. The duathlon, team relay, and kids' race are alternative race options that do not fall under the banner of state championship.

Olympic Distance Triathlon: In the famous words of a baked goods band; are you going the distance, going for speed, while you're racing and pacing, we are plotting the course! The swim is a split lane 1500M (33laps) in the Chugiak High School pool. The bike course is a 40K (24.8 miles) double out and back roller coaster with all the ups, downs, and fun turns to keep you on your toes! The majestic 10k (6.2 miles) run is sandwiched between the scenic mountain side of the Chugach range and the concrete jungle of the Glenn hwy. You can treat the random honks from the high-speed peanut gallery as moral support as you push every last drop of energy on your way to the finish line.

Sprint Distance Triathlon: The swim will be a split lane 500yd (10laps) in the Chugiak High School pool. The bike course is a 20K (12.4 miles) roller coaster with all the ups, downs, and fun turns to keep things exciting! The majestic 5k (3.1 miles) run is sandwiched between the scenic mountain side of the Chugach range and the concrete jungle of the Glenn hwy. The Sprint Triathlon the High School State Championship for any racers enrolled in high school or with in the 6-month post H.S.

Sprint & Olympic Distance Relay Teams: Grab a friend, slap into a Slim-jim and tag team this event like it's going out of style. Teams of 2 - 3 racers who truly believe sharing is caring is the name of the game. Same distances as the individual events just you don't have to do it all by yourself...yay for friends.

Sprint Duathlon: For those that think water is for the fishes! To get this party started we have a one-mile trail run on the Beach Lake ski trails. The bike course is a 20K (12.4 miles) roller coaster with all the ups, downs, and fun turns to show off your bike handling skills! The majestic 5k (3.1 miles) run is sandwiched between the scenic mountain side of the Chugach range and the concrete jungle of the Glenn hwy.

Kids Race: Nothing makes us happier than seeing the next generation of triathletes out giving it their all. We are giving the kids their very own day. Thanks to Turnagain Training and the support of our generous sponsors to give these kiddos the event they deserve.

    New this year! Two Distances:

    • Long Course 300 yard swim (6 laps) / 2-mile bike (4laps) / ~ 1.2 mile run (2 laps)

    • Short Course 50 yard swim (1 lap) / 1 mile bike (2laps) / ~.6 mile run (1 lap)

    Donate:

A.B.A.T.E. of Anchorage - Alaska Bikers Advocating Training and Education is a non-profit organization that provides educational and training tools to the Alaska motorcycle community. They also support numerous events and causes throughout the year!

A.B.A.T.E. supports the Eagle River Triathlon by providing all volunteers and motorcycle support on the bike course. They donate their time, fuel, and energy to ensure we have a safe and fun bike course. There is nothing better on the course than the crew from A.B.A.T.E (okay, maybe the hills too!).

Each year, Eagle River Tri makes a cash donation to A.B.A.T.E. to support their Christmas in July Toy Drive. We are reaching out to the ERT racers for additional support for their toy drive. Your donation, no matter the amount, will help support their efforts in delivering hundreds of toys to children in Anchorage-area hospitals..
