All of the proceeds from the event directly support the Y’s Annual Campaign. The Annual Campaign helps support several programs at our local YMCA including our Financial Assistance Program that helps subsidize Y membership and program costs for people in our community, our food program that helps serve an average of 700 meals each week to kids in our community, and our LIVESTRONG program that helps over 100 cancer survivors annually regain their strength and confidence after treatment.

The exact start time of the race will depend on age groups and registration numbers. No two age groups will be in the transition area or pool area at the same time to eliminate crowds. 2026 T-Shirt Reveal Coming Soon!!!

Grady’s Superhero Run, is a family-friendly 5k and kid’s fun run plus new this year virtual run option. The in person run will be followed with a bounce house, kids’ games, prize giveaways and a DJ. The in-person event will be hosted in Dorchester, IA in the Knotty Marie's yard, where entertainment and a light meal will be served (free will donation).

Location: Dorchester IA, starting in front of Knotty Marie's on Waterloo Creek Dr. The fun run will head west on Waterloo Creek Drive approximately 1.5 miles and loop back to the starting spot.

Purpose: This is a memorial run for Grady Lundgren-Hammel. Grady was an ambitious, loving, energetic boy. He loved agriculture, he loved Dorchester. Grady was diagnosed with a rare NUT Protein Carcinoma and fought hard with the help of his family and community for 13 courageous months. Grady passed away on December 29, 2022. Grady’s mom Dana fondly and tearfully remembers her boy every day. We noted that he fought this terrible disease with immense support from family and the community. This support has been very humbling. Grady’s family received donations and support from the entire tri-state area, some groups we had never even heard about! Benefits were held to help and raise money and awareness for Grady. Dana wants to give back to the community, raise awareness for NUT protein carcinoma, and create a fun event to memorialize her son. The money raised with this fun run will be divided between families experiencing medical issues, and to continue The Grady Lundgren-Hammel

    memorial scholarship at local schools.
