5k Fun Run Run Walk

The inaugural Strides for Survivors is being run to benefit the aftercare program at the NC Jaycee burn center. The aftercare team puts on annual events, including Camp Celebrate, Family Camp, Teenager Adventure Weekend, Adult Retreat, etc. for burn survivors. These events positively affect hundreds of survivors and their families. We hope that you will join us for this fun run/walk on Feb 28th at Wakemed Soccer Park.

The Strides for Survivors 5k is organized by Enloe HS Junior Stella Illuzzi. As a former participant in Camp Celebrate, Stella wanted to combine her passion of running into a way to give back to a community that helped her as a child.

All proceeds raised from this effort will support the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, a program dedicated to providing specialized medical care and rehabilitative services for patients recovering from burn injuries. The Burn Center leads efforts in community education and burn prevention, pioneers new research, and strives to help patients return to their highest level of functioning possible after rehabilitation. It also supports families with compassionate care and fosters programs that improve quality of life and safety across the state.

Check-in for the race begins at 10 AM, and the race will begin promptly at 11 AM.

This will be the Alpha Lambda chapter's eighth annual mental health awareness run for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Outrace the Stigma began in 2017 to raise awareness for mental health and the resources available at North Carolina State University and the greater Triangle area.

NAMI is a non-profit organization that raises awareness and provides essential education, advocacy, and support groups at no cost for people living with mental illness and their loved ones. NAMI addresses the mental health needs of our community, replaces stigma with understanding, and helps thousands of families and individuals each year.

Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the United States, or 43.8 million adults, experience mental illness in a given year.

Omega Phi Alpha is a national service sorority with 30 chapters across the United States. Omega Phi Alpha's motto is "Today's friends, tomorrow's leaders, forever in service." Our permanent project has been mental health since 1971, chosen by our late National President Susan Terzian. This project is extremely important to our chapter, and we are focusing on bringing awareness around the issue of mental health in the greater Raleigh area.

Since this is an evening race we are using a simple 5K course for all races that we can safely manage as it gets dark. Greater distance races will run increasing laps of that course. BUT the longer distances will ALSO get the split times for each 5K lap!

The course closes for all races at 7 PM. Runners will not be allowed to start a new lap after that point; any runners who can't complete their distance in the allowed time will be automatically transferred to the race distance they did complete. Runners who have started a lap before 6:30 PM will be allowed to finish their run and their full finish time and distance will be counted.

All races will have a staggered start beginning at 5:00 PM (in order of distance) and the course closes for all races at 7:00 PM (In-person Race Day Schedule). Please consider your race pace when deciding which event to run. * For any participants who feel they may need some extra time, please contact us at info@fitandable.net.

PLUS there will be special results for those races at each split too! So you may not win the race but you might win a lap or two!

    • 10K - 2 Laps - 5K Split & Finish Time

    • 15K - 3 - Laps - 5K Split, 10K Split, & Finish Time
