    6” targets at 40 meters

There will be designated Range Safety Officers (RSO) in place that will oversee the safety of the firing range throughout the race and will assist with any issues with firearms.

If you are sharing a gun with someone we will figure the start times so that sharing is possible.

Guns will be racked at the Shooting Range- NO GUNS WILL BE CARRIED ON THE RUN OR THE BIKE.

All Rifles must be pointed in a safe direction at all times, failure to point rifle in safe direction will result in a disqualification (DQ) from the event.

Each shooter must have Eye and Ear protection on before they touch their rifle prior to approaching the firing line.

A mandatory chamber flag is required for every firearm. Homemade one is sufficent (ie zip tie, weed eater line, etc). Must not be able to fall out while rifle is in the rack. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/EGsAAOSwsq1crR-w/s-l400.jpg

Rifles will only be loaded when at firing line and in shooting position with rifle pointed in safe direction and under supervision of a Range Safety Officer. All Rifles must be stored and transported with the action open (bolt to the rear) and no ammunition in the firearm unless under the supervision of the Range Safety Officer at the designated shooting position.

5 rounds only, will be prepared in advance and inserted at the firing line. After shooting, magazines will be removed at the firing line with bolts open or a chamber flag inserted before racking gun. Tube fed magazines must have feed tube removed after shooting. Racers will be responsible for picking up and loading their own guns.

If there is a misfire, racer must wait with the rifle downrange for 30 seconds.

Mountain bike legs- racers can get assistance from other racers but no outside assistance is allowed. Anything used for a repair must be carried by the racers.

Summer Biathlon Format (running and shooting): Time trial format-

30-second intervals. All running loops are different.

    2 K run loop

    Shoot Prone- 5 shots

    2 K run loop

    Shoot Offhand (standing)- 5 shots

    3 K run loop

    Shoot Prone- 5 shots

    .1 K run loop

    Finish

Mountain Bike Biathlon Format (mountain biking and shooting): Time trial format- 30-second intervals. Three mountain bike loops, the last loop is done twice

    3 K mountain bike loop

    Shoot Prone- 5 shots

    4 K mountain bike loop

    Shoot Offhand (standing)- 5 shots

    3 K mountain bike loop

    Shoot Prone- 5 shots

3 K mountain bike loop- repeat of 3rd mtb loop

    Finish

In each shooting leg, racer gets 5 shots. For each miss, the racer must run or ride one penalty lap (penalty laps take about 20 seconds for run and 40 seconds for mtb). Example- racer one runs/ rides LOOP 1 and arrives at the shooting range. Racer puts on safety glasses and ear protection if not already wearing it. Racer picks up his racked gun and takes his five round magazine/ container of 5 shots. Racer goes to firing line and loads gun, shoots and hits the target 3 times with 2 misses. Racer unloads gun and leaves firing line back to safety line. Re-racks gun and starts running or gets on bike. Runs/ rides to penalty lap area. Does 2 penalty laps and then continues on to LOOP 2. Comes into shooting area for second time, follows shooting procedure and gets 4 hits, one miss. Runs/ rides to penalty lap, does one lap and then continues on to LOOP 3. Comes into shooting area a third time, follows shooting procedure and gets 5 hits- Runs/ rides to penalty lap, gets to bypass penalty runs/

rides last loop to the finish.

    RACE DATES: OCTOBER 23-25, 2026.

    No whiners, wimps, or wusses.

This is a rugged trail running race that was designed to test runners.

The course can go by quickly because of it's picturesque views; technical climbs and descents; and fun terrain.

But be careful looking at the scenery too long, you might end up face first in a cactus.

Please understand this race does not have our usual full spread aid stations and volunteers...on purpose.

We have medical staff, but you are required to be able to handle your own needs out on the course.

People asked for a tough race, so Tejas Trails made it happen. Enjoy!

Cactus Rose is capped at 500 total runners for all distances.

While every racer will get some cool swag, September 29 is the deadline to get a shirt.
