Race benefits Hooves & Paws Animal Rescue. Hooves & Paws Animal Rescue is a nonprofit animal rescue that provides rescue and sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals. After they are rescued, our animals receive all the love and care they need and when they are ready, they are placed in loving adoptive homes. Animals who are not able to be adopted are provided lifelong care at our sanctuary. We have been saving animals since 2002 but recently relocated from Southern California to Louisa, Virginia. Our rescued dogs, cats, horses and farm animals are loving their beautiful new sanctuary in Virginia. As we continue to build new fencing and shelters, we hope to help many more animals who need a second chance.

The Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival features Olympic and Sprint distance races staged out of beautiful Lake Anna State Park. With a sandy beach time trial start, a refreshing (low 70’s) freshwater swim, rolling country roads for the bike and a run course that stays completely within the State Park. The race is amazing for so many reasons, but the best part is the park itself with a beautiful venue and banked stadium style seating overlooking the swim course, run course and finish line! Bring the family as the park features miles of trails, a playground, swimming beach and visitors center featuring a “gold mine”. Outside the park you can relax post race at the Lake Anna Winery or the Coyote Hole Cider Works. Be sure to race with friends and make some new ones at the Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival.

Hosted at Pleasants Landing Marina at Lake Anna, this race and venue are amazing. The time trial swim takes place in the southeast portion of Lake Anna, about 1/4 mile from where the “hot side” of Lake Anna empties into the cold side, resulting in water temperatures that are 4-6 degree’s warmer than the rest of the lake at this time of year. So, you can look forward to above average water temperatures in mid-October. The last open water race of the regular season Olympic starts at 9AM and the Sprint starts at 9:30AM, so you can sleep in a little and make it a day at the lake with family and friends. The race site and finish line are surrounded by water and have a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the West; it’s a great place to spend the weekend outside. Want something fun to do with the friends and family the day after Thanksgiving? Need to burn off some energy? Come enjoy the scenic & challenging courses at Lake Anna State Park! The 5k course is a trail run, while the 10k and half are 50% trail and 50% paved road.

Walkers are welcome to attend this event.

Please note that runners are required to pay the park entrance fee on their own or use a state park pass to enter the park!
