Founded in July 2017 by Zonke and Zama, The Pack is a women’s running crew based in Johannesburg dedicated to fostering a supportive, inclusive community for female runners. With around 40 members, the crew meets regularly at Vida e Caffe, combining the city’s vibrant urban energy with routes that showcase Johannesburg’s diverse streets and green spaces. The Pack’s motto, “EMBRACE. ENGAGE. EMPOWER ALL GIRLS.”, reflects their commitment to building confidence and camaraderie through accessible runs tailored to all experience levels. Beyond running, the crew prioritizes friendship and mutual support, creating a safe space where women from varied backgrounds connect and grow together. By highlighting female strength and solidarity, The Pack enriches Johannesburg’s running culture and inspires broader conversations about women’s participation in sport across the city. Their involvement in local events further amplifies their mission to celebrate and empower women through every stride.

Community Run

Founded in February 2023 by Lesiba, Abstract Running Club in Johannesburg grew from his solo runs into a close-knit group rooted in community and steady wellness. Originating among baristas from Abstract Coffee Club, the group embraces a friendly pace that encourages runners of all levels to build endurance without pressure. Centered in Braamfontein, the team mixes Johannesburg’s vibrant urban energy with a welcoming, inclusive vibe where newcomers and regulars connect easily. Their runs often explore the city’s lively streets and parks, providing a chance to experience local culture on foot. With open membership and no fees, Abstract Running Club reflects Lesiba’s commitment to consistency and accessibility, fostering personal growth and camaraderie rather than competition. This small but passionate group embodies the city’s rhythm, inviting everyone to join a shared journey toward health and connection in one of South Africa’s most lively urban environments.

Braamfie Runners started in March 2012 and have become a key part of Johannesburg's running scene. They take their name from Braamfontein, their home neighborhood, and reflect the city's tough and resilient character. The group began as invite-only but now welcomes over 50 members, following the idea of Ubuntu. Yolanda, Tumi, and Andrew lead the crew, organizing training for big races like the Soweto and Comrades Marathons from their base, Prefontaine.
