In 2007, Rick's Place was established as a non-profit organization to provide grief support to youth and their parents/guardians. We offer community and connection to families as they manage one of life's most difficult experiences - the death of a significant caregiver or sibling. We have free grief support programs for families on-site in Wilbraham two evenings a month. We also facilitate grief support groups in area schools and lead professional development trainings for school personnel and practitioners about the impact of grief on young people. Our grief support programs serve Western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut communities.

The Sgt. Joshua D. Desforges Walk/Run Challenge is a race inspired by the life of Sgt. Joshua D.

Desforges, a United States Marine that was killed in combat in Afghanistan in May 2010. Josh chased his

dream to become a Marine and every day, “lived life full throttle”. This event is not an average 5K

run/walk. This event is better described as a 3+ mile road and trail run, with a twist of Marine Corps

inspired obstacles and challenges sure to test mettle. 100% of the proceeds of this event have gone, and

will continue to go, directly into the Sgt. Joshua D. Desforges Scholarship fund.

All proceeds go to graduating Ludlow High Seniors that are pursuing their life’s passion as Josh was by becoming a United Staes Marine.. This scholarship is different as It is open to any student regardless of college. They could be going to a trade school, joining the military, starting their own business etc.

The scholarship is a way of honoring Josh’s life while giving back to the community that supported us tremendously when we lost him.
