We respectfully acknowledge the unceded traditional territory of the Ligwiłda’xw people; the We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum, Kwiakah First Nations, and the traditional keepers of their land. We want to say thank you for allowing us to live, work, and play on your lands.

Step into one of the most beautiful forests on Vancouver Island. Enjoy miles of single-track with gentle rollers and some of the softest ground your feet have raced on.

This course is for everyone: Go easy and take in the majestic scenery and forest-filtered natural light, or let 'er rip on this speedy, flattish course!

Our grassroots event is a tailgate vibe featuring a live DJ, prizes, post-run food/drinks and a well-marked course through the stunning Snowden Demonstration Forest. Plenty of high-fives and good vibes all day!

    Description

The 7th annual 'CVRR Backyard Ultra' will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds. Don’t let the word ULTRA stop you. This is an event for everyone.

    Beginning...

The 7th annual 'CVRR Backyard Ultra' will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds. Don’t let the word ULTRA stop you. This is an event for everyone.

Beginning every hour, exactly on the hour, you will run the marked 6,706 meter route through the forests and fields of the CV Exhibition Grounds. All runners begin each subsequent lap exactly at the top of the next hour (not before or after) until they are no longer willing or able to continue this pattern.

When you are no longer willing to do another 'yard', you can relax and enjoy the entertainment as others continue to click off their laps.

*In the spirit of keeping our Comox Valley Backyard Ultra a fun, community-centric event, this year we will impose a maximum of 30 yards/30 hours for all runners. If more than one runner crosses the line after completing 30 yards, at 15:00 on Sunday, July 26, the finisher will be determined by a tie-breaking Mystery Challenge at the Start-Finish area.

There is only one finisher for this event

You might ask 'why this strange distance?' The distance of 6.706 km equals a 'yard' and 24 yards of this distance equals exactly 100 miles over 24 hours.

*The BYU committee has made efforts to be accurate with our route's distance but each yard may not be exactly 6.706 km. Roll with it.

TEAM CATEGORY: Although this is a solo event, you can register as part of a 3-5 person team. All team members start together at the race start and individually run as many laps as each member can. At the end, we will tally up the teams' total laps to see which team ran the most yards. There will be awards for the most yards completed by a team, the best costumes and special team draw prizes. Team members don't have to run the same number of yards. Gather your friends and register now as a solo runner or as a team. It's better to suffer together!
