The 7th annual 'CVRR Backyard Ultra' will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds. Don’t let the word ULTRA stop you. This is an event for everyone.

Beginning every hour, exactly on the hour, you will run the marked 6,706 meter route through the forests and fields of the CV Exhibition Grounds. All runners begin each subsequent lap exactly at the top of the next hour (not before or after) until they are no longer willing or able to continue this pattern.

When you are no longer willing to do another 'yard', you can relax and enjoy the entertainment as others continue to click off their laps.

*In the spirit of keeping our Comox Valley Backyard Ultra a fun, community-centric event, this year we will impose a maximum of 30 yards/30 hours for all runners. If more than one runner crosses the line after completing 30 yards, at 15:00 on Sunday, July 26, the finisher will be determined by a tie-breaking Mystery Challenge at the Start-Finish area.

There is only one finisher for this event

You might ask 'why this strange distance?' The distance of 6.706 km equals a 'yard' and 24 yards of this distance equals exactly 100 miles over 24 hours.

*The BYU committee has made efforts to be accurate with our route's distance but each yard may not be exactly 6.706 km. Roll with it.

TEAM CATEGORY: Although this is a solo event, you can register as part of a 3-5 person team. All team members start together at the race start and individually run as many laps as each member can. At the end, we will tally up the teams' total laps to see which team ran the most yards. There will be awards for the most yards completed by a team, the best costumes and special team draw prizes. Team members don't have to run the same number of yards. Gather your friends and register now as a solo runner or as a team. It's better to suffer together!

The Women For Women originated back in 2003..... a community driven event. It’s energy and purpose was to bring awareness and funds to all kinds of women in education. With it's focus on supporting women in education...scholarships and bursaries were available for entering, continuing and graduation students in all program areas. While education is important, so is women in need, families and non - profit organizations....

The Women For Women event grew with popularity... sharing its wealth, also became a priority. Its charitable and educational causes are Campbell River & North Island Transition Society Women's Resource Centre) in the past Robron/ Continuing Education, Discovery Community College, Babies Best Chance, Forest Circle Society and Foundry were also recipients of the event.

The Women For Women Fundraising event continues its giving back. The Campbell River Hospice Society and Care-Mongering are now at the forefront.

While Campbell Rivers businesses have been generous over the years...the focus of the event continues to look for sponsorship...

Major sponsorship and donations in the past 23 years have been Troy Young REHN Enterprises, Lyn Paterson, Boston Pizza, All in One Party Shop, Tim Hortons, Al Sharpe/Tri Gem Cabinets.

The Monster Marmot is coming, and you’d better RUN.

    About the event

The Monster Marmot Trail Race is a community trail-running event at Mount Washington Alpine Resort, created in partnership with Front Runners Cumberland and in support of the Marmot Recovery Foundation.

Inspired by Mount Washington’s famously steep “Monster Mile” terrain, the course features alpine views, forested trails, and punchy climbs that make this race tough, scenic, and seriously rewarding.

Choose between a rugged 5K or 10K route through the alpine terrain of Mount Washington. Both courses feature a demanding climb, technical trails, changing mountain conditions and some of the best views on Vancouver Island.

Whether you are racing for the podium, taking on your first mountain trail event or simply showing up for the marmots, you are invited to join us for one monster of a morning on the mountain.

Please review the full route descriptions, course requirements, race policies, and event information before registering: Monster Marmot Event Details

    Fundraising

100% of net proceeds from the Monster Marmot Trail Race will support the Marmot Recovery Foundation and the continued recovery of the endangered Vancouver Island marmot.

    Important Course Information

Both the 5K and 10K are challenging mountain trail courses. Participants should expect steep climbing, technical descents, rocky and uneven footing, exposed alpine terrain and rapidly changing mountain weather.

Sections of either route may require participants to hike, slow down, or use their hands for balance.

Please review the full route descriptions, course requirements, race policies, and event information before registering: Monster Marmot Event Details
