Get ready to push your limits and have the time of your life at The Challenge Race — A thrilling 4-mile obstacle course featuring 25+ high-intensity, mud-slinging challenges.

You’ll take on obstacles like the Warped Wall, Multi-Rig, 10-Foot Wall, Muscle-Up Wall, and our crowd-favorite Mud Pit. Whether you’re racing for fun or competition, every obstacle is designed to test your grit, discipline, and endurance — and to deliver an unforgettable experience from start to finish.

But this race is about more than strength — it’s about purpose.

The Challenge Race is run entirely by volunteers and funded through generous donations, with proceeds benefiting Camp Calvary’s Scholarship Fund. This fund helps provide children who may not otherwise afford camp the opportunity to experience a week filled with adventure, faith, and life-changing moments.

Every hill you climb, every wall you scale, and every finish line crossed helps send a child to Camp Calvary — a place where kids grow in confidence, character, and faith.

Run for a reason. Race with purpose. Make an impact that lasts far beyond the finish line.

Welcome to Southern Grit Endurance Challenge

Located in south-central Kentucky, Southern Grit takes place in a landscape where rugged hills meet gently rolling terrain — a natural transition between the Appalachian Plateau and the Bluegrass region. Nestled in the distinctive “Knobs” region, steep wooded hills rise dramatically from fertile farmland, creating a striking and scenic backdrop. The race unfolds in the small community of Butchertown, in northern Casey County.

    Race Overview

Southern Grit offers 3-, 6-, 12-, and 24-hour races, along with 3-, 6-, 12-, 24 hour ruck events, promising a true test for athletes of all backgrounds and abilities. This spectator-friendly event invites runners, families, and friends to enjoy an unforgettable weekend of endurance, camaraderie, and fun.

    Main Aid Station

One of the best parts of Southern Grit Endurance Challenge is the warm, community atmosphere at our main aid station, located right at the start/finish line. We’ll also have water and Tailwind available out on the course for quick replenishment while you’re on your loop.

At the main station, you’ll find all the essentials — water, electrolytes, and classic aid station snacks — plus delicious hot food you won’t want to miss.

If you prefer self-aid, you’re in luck — you’ll pass your tent or vehicle on every loop, making it easy to grab your own food, gear, and supplies without stepping off the course.

    Race Essentials

    • Full-Service Aid Station at the Start/Finish Line

    • Headlamps Required for nighttime running (bring a backup or extra batteries)

    • Course Marking: Flags and tape at all crossings

    • Cup-Free Event: Bring your own hydration system (HydraPak Speed Cups available at packet pickup)

    • Pacing & Crewing allowed

    • Rules: Unsportsmanlike conduct, course cutting, littering, or policy violations will result in disqualification

Please note property is not accessible before raceday.

    How Winners Are Determined

The Southern Grit Endurance Challenge is a timed endurance event offering 3-hour, 6-hour, 12-hour, and 24-hour race options.

    • Winners in each division are determined by the greatest total distance completed within the allotted time.

    • Distance is measured by the number of full laps completed on the official course.

    ⏱ End of Race Timing

    • When the race clock expires, runners may finish their current lap.

    • Only full laps completed before the final cutoff are counted toward official results.

    • Partial laps are not counted.

    Tie-Breakers

In the event of a tie in total distance:

    • The runner who completed the final scoring lap first will be declared the winner.

    • If still tied, the runner with the faster overall average pace will be awarded the higher placing.
