Special Operations Warrior Foundation: Donate to SOWF

“Our mission is driven by a desire to honor the sacrifice made in service to our country by providing “cradle to career” educational support to children of fallen Special Operations Personnel and spouses as well as all Medal of Honor Recipients. From a “battlefield promise” made in 1980, the SOWF program has grown to include immediate financial support to severely wounded, injured, and ill Special Operators. By providing this support, SOWF aims to help these families build brighter futures despite the challenges they face due to the loss of a loved one.”

Registration will be open every day till the event. However, to guarantee you get a bib that tracks your distance and time, you need to sign up before May 22nd. Sign-ups that are day of or without a bib can still compete for the win and have their distance measured for the overall miles completed during the event as long as you have an app that tracks your mileage.

The Event:

What: 24-HR Endurance run, walk, jog! This 4 mile loop, featuring a 200 ft. elevation gain at Boat Hill and ~300 ft. for one completed loop. Challenge your will and ability! Will you be the first person to finish 100 miles in 24hrs? While this race will be held for the full 24 hrs., any distance from all participants will be recorded to show their input and dedication to supporting SOWF for the total miles completed by all participants at the end of the event. Need an incentive to compete, the one who runs the longest distance will receive the Start/Finish Banner and a plaque recognizing them as The Airstrip Apex Predator as trophies. Last year, first place ran away with banner finishing 60 miles.

When: 5th - 7th June, run starts @ 8 am on the 6th and will end @ 8 am the 7th. Overnight camping can start at 4pm on the 5th. Payment for camping will be taken care of at the airstrip. Camping costs $12 per family per night, paid in cash or check at the event. This will be a pack-in, pack-out event; there will be extra garbage cans to take care of extra trash. Open fires will follow the fire bans when the event occurs. (Collection of firewood is prohibited on state park grounds and military reservation.)

Who: Anyone! It's a free event! Show up and put in your support for those who gave it all!

What else: There will not be food or water readily available for purchase. The aid stations on the route will have FREE water and electrolytes for use. There will also be tools to stretch out and recover during and after the race.

Aid stations: will be located at the base of 200 ft incline of Boat Hill and the SW loop. The starting line will house the camping, staging, flag ceremonies, Porta-potties, and any other vendors we may be able to have.

Recommended Runner Gear: Headlamp if running through the night. Personal Camping gear if staying either night. Food, water, recovery essentials, mid-run electrolytes, snacks, water-packs, etc.

The four-mile run benefits the BRRC volunteer program. Please bring your gently used shoes and clothing for donation to high school athletes in the area. Fish Lake Trail Head: The trailhead is near Government Way and Sunset Hwy. Take I-90 to Exit 279 for US-195 S toward Colfax/Pullman. Continue on 195 for 0.3 miles, then turn right onto W. 16th Avenue, which turns into S. Lindeke St. Continue on Lindeke until you see the parking lot on the right, about another 0.5 miles. Trailhead is near Government Way and Sunset Hwy. Parking is limited, so please car-pool.

From the Spokane trailhead, the route follows a mild uphill grade. The bridge crosses over the I-90 Freeway. On your left, trees separate you from US 195 for a couple miles and then from Cheney Spokane Road, which loosely parallels the trail. Half-mile markers guide you through the dry uplands of Eastern Washington. The trail follows a piece of corridor of the Oregon–Washington Railroad & Navigation Company (a division of the Union Pacific Railroad) through the Latah Valley, formerly Hangman Valley. At Marshall Canyon, take in railroad history as you travel beside active rail lines through the area known by rail fans as "The Tunnel."

CHECK IN BEGINS AT 9:00 AM

Empowering Communities and Fortifying Families to End Veteran Suicide and Strengthen our Heroes to Lead their Communities.

HONOR HEROES - FORTIFY FAMILIES - CELEBRATE FREEDOM

Walk in support of veterans to choose LIFE. The enemy did not have victory in war, and will not win in the day to day battle for our veteran’s lives. Together we can end veteran suicide and fortify families after service. Live life abundantly with a community that hears, sees and recognizes the sacrifices of our HEROES. Family and supporters of our veterans are encouraged to join. Let’s gather in a big way to show the love and support of our veterans and the USA.

The circle of return from military service to civilian life is a personal and community process. Join a community wide celebration and resources fair as we help veterans and families make the journey back home after service.

    Schedule:

9 AM Registration Opens and Community Resource Fair

    10 AM Opening Ceremonies

11:00 AM Walk Commences on paths through Riverfront Park.

Those walking with kids are welcome to bring scooters, wagons, bikes or strollers to make your time easier with little ones.

12 PM Victory Celebration and Closing Ceremony

    1 PM Resource Fair Closes

Heroes Walk brings awareness, solutions, and builds a connected community to end veteran suicide and homelessness by providing resources for wrap around care for the whole veteran and their family or support system. The content and event day will be mindful of the multigenerational crowd.

Organizations desiring to join the resource community fair or sponsor the event, please email info@heroeshomestead.org. Services for adults, children, veterans and spouses (including Gold Star families), as well as basic life needs and life enhancement and more are welcome to join.
