Twisted Ankle Trail Race

On June 6, 2026, runners from across the country will descend upon Rainsville for the 18th ANNIVERSARY OF THE RAINSVILLE FREEDOM RUN 10K AND 5K, "The Best Small Race in America”. The event is for runners and walkers of all ages. The race will begin and end at the DeKalb County Schools Coliseum located at 1504 Main St E.

MOST OVERALL PRIZE MONEY EVER (5) DEEP MALE AND FEMALE

10K Overall Prize $$: 1st place - $1000, 2nd place - $800, 3rd place - $600, 4th place - $400 - 5th place - $200.

5K Overall Prize $$: 1st place - $600, 2nd place - $400, 3rd place - $300, 4th place - $200 - 5th place - $100.

Obtain a walk, ride, or drive Tour Guide from our nearby Visitor's Center Museum. This guide will introduce a community that has epochal connections to 1000’s of years of Native American, early settler, African American, and deaf cultural history. Tour includes largest Indian cabin; Fairview Rosenwald School museum project; 18th Century Georgia School for the Deaf buildings, train depot, Chubb Town, and 90 different structures on the National Register of Historic Places. Additionally, directions are included to the local trailheads of the Pinhoti Trail. In a town established in 1822, yet quite vibrant still today, you will feel like walking through time!

Friday, June 12th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, you may pick up your Race Packet/T-shirt under the pavilion at Rolater Park in Cave Spring, near the large 'Hearn Academic Bldg.' Packets will also be available on race morning, Saturday, but it sure takes some stress off to get it early!!

5K COURSE:

This USATF-certified course [GA24031WC] starts in front of Historic 1848 Fannin Hall and Georgia's largest outdoor swimming pool. It winds its way through town before turning by the Georgia School for the Deaf. It then returns to town and meanders through quaint neighborhoods before finishing in the middle of town square. The course is mostly flat with a few rolling hills but this tour of Cave Spring on foot will not be soon forgotten!

Get ready for the most delicious and ridiculous 5K you’ll ever run! Join us on June 13th, 2026 during the Chickamauga Chicken & Waffles Festival for a race that’s equal parts running, laughter, and breakfast-themed fun.

Runners are encouraged to dress the part and join our Chicken & Waffles Costume Challenge. Come dressed as your best chicken, waffle, syrup bottle, chef, or anything breakfast-inspired. The more creative (and slightly ridiculous), the better.
