    Join the Howard County Striders for one of their prestigious training programs!

    Are you ready to take your Half or Full marathon endurance training to the “Next Step”?

    If so, you’re in for a fun ride this Summer and Fall!

    Please be advised this program is NOT intended for brand new runners, nor for anyone 18 years of age or younger. Rather, the Next Step is to take your running to the Next Level. As such, there are certain minimum essentials required to be successful:

    Minimum Base Mileage

    If targeting a FULL marathon:Able to run at least 20-25 miles per/week (base mileage).

    Able to perform a long run of AT LEAST 10 miles at start of program

    If targeting a HALF marathon:Able to run AT LEAST 10-15 miles per/week

    Minimum Pace

    You need to be able to maintain a pace of 13 minutes or faster pace of constant running. Runners who are unable to maintain this pace on the time trial, may be asked to switch programs to one of a shorter distance. We will not be including a walk/run or Galloway style training option for this program.

    Time Trial

    We will conduct a 5 mile time trial for all participants on the first day of the program to assess current fitness level and to group participants appropriately for optimal training and success

    10K Goal Race will be the Columbia Classic 10K race on the first Sunday in October

    The Next Step Building to 10K Program is for runners of varying abilities. Participants will do a 2 mile time trial July 23 at Longfellow Elementary at 6pm so coordinators can group participants with those of similar abilities. Weekly training runs will involve a variety of running techniques including speed work and hill work to improve running performance. All runners should be able to run 3 miles before starting the program.

    Join us for a meaningful morning of community, awareness, and hope at the Run Like A Warrior Lyme Awareness Walk in Ellicott City, Maryland. Whether you’re walking in support of a loved one, raising awareness, or simply showing up for the Lyme community, this event is a chance to come together and make a difference.

    Lyme disease affects thousands of families each year, and events like this help us shine a light on the challenges patients face while building a stronger, more supportive community. Come walk with us, wear your green, and stand with Lyme Warriors everywhere.

    Check-In: 8:30 AM

    Walk: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

    Event will take place rain or shine (unless there is a thunderstorm).

    Bring your friends, family, and community spirit as we walk together to raise awareness, support patients, and remind everyone affected by Lyme disease that they are not alone

    Donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.

    Parking may be limited due to the holiday, so we strongly encourage participants to arrive early to allow enough time for parking and check-in.

The NCR Trail is a hardpacked, dirt/gravel surface and part of the “Rails to Trail” program. This race is scheduled as a supported training run to prepare for a fall marathon, or for those just looking to get a long run in!

    Whether you’re in it for some friendly competition or would rather stick with a group, this event’s emphasis is on camaraderie, bringing together all paces and styles.

    The 5k or 1 mile routes start and end at the Albin O. Kuhn Library. The 1 mile route will be leisurely and casually paced (pet and family friendly). Check-in time begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race/walk is at 8:30 a.m.

    Entry Fees:

    $20 for faculty, staff, alumni, and friends aged 17+ (anyone under 17 must be accompanied and registered by an adult)

    $5 for current UMBC students

    $50 for a family pack option (includes up to two adults 18 and over and any number of children)

    $25 race day fee for non-students, $10 for students, and $60 for a family pack (pending space)

    Event is limited to 250 participants
