We are excited to offer two open water swim clinics for triathletes and open water swimmers.

Perfect for aspiring beginners and seasoned racers, this clinic will help you dial in the fundamentals of open water swimming, so you can swim safely and confidently. Competitive swimmers will learn skills to manage pace and the competition.

We'll cover

  • Preparation - gear, goggles, wetsuits, course scouting

  • Mindset - dismantling fear, building confidence, finding rhythm

  • Safety - wildlife, temperature, boats, wind, current, debris, emergencies

  • Navigation - sighting, judging distance

  • Technique - pacing, stroke adjustment for conditions, racing strategies, buoy turns

BONUS Webinar - Join us online Monday 27 April at 7 pm ET for a FREE online educational session, for an explanation of concepts and few skills you can practice prior to arriving at the Clinics. Q & A time!

    Join us for 3 different swim distances: 1-mile, 1.6-mile, and 3.3-mile. The event is sanctioned by both US Masters Swimming (USMS) and USA Swimming. Participants must be at least 11 years of age as of 31 December 2026 and members in good standing of either USMS or USA Swimming. Race age determined as of 12/31 of this year.

    Tucked in the hills of beautiful East Tennessee, Bussell Island is located in the gentle waters of the Little Tennessee River. Originally inhabited by various Native American Cultures, the island is believed to be the location of the capital Coste - a Missippian Period chieftom visited by the famous explorer, Henry DeSoto. Fast forward 1,500+ years and Bussell Island is now how home to a beautiful riverfront park with boating access, nature trails, a small sand beach, and a historic preserve. With its calm clear waters, Bussell Island is the perfect setting to host an open water swim race for swimmers of all abilities.
