- Parking Info
-
Lake San Antonio is about one hour from either King City or Paso Robles. Please plan ahead, as once you reach the lake it may take from twenty minutes to an hour to get to the race start. You can never arrive too early, but you won’t want to be late. Vehicles on Saturday and Sunday will be directed to park by event staff in one of the open parking lots. To get to the Expo Area and Start/Finish and Transitions Area, you will then need to either walk down one of the maintained walking trails or utilize one of our shuttles to get down the hill (1-1.5 miles) so come prepared. Shuttles will only run between 6:00am – 8:00am and 2:00pm – 7:00pm, no shuttles run during race hours due to shared access of racecourse.
-
Roads will be closed at 8:00 am and will not open until all bikes are off the course (approximately 3 PM). All vehicles must be in the park by 8:00am, no exceptions.

Race Day
-
Timing Tag and Race bib, can often get left at home or at campsite
-
One of the most overlooked aspects of race day during a triathlon is transitions. If left unorganized or with minimal thought, transitions from leg to leg can take more time than initially thought. Transition bags can help provide a smooth transition from swimming to biking and biking to running. If you’re a serious triathlete, invest a specialized transition bag. If you’re just starting and aren’t sure how you like the sport, a duffel bag or backpack can usually do the trick. The key thing is that you should NEVER ride your bike with your wetsuit or other items hanging over your handlebars which can cause major a bike accident.
-
Transition Towel
-
Bike Bottle / Hydration system, staying hydrated during the race is very important
-
Any specific nutrition to supplement the official race on course product. Don’t skimp on nutrition and hydration. Be in control of your energy and make sure you have tested all of the race day foods and drinks during training to be sure they sit well as you move.
-
Flip flops if your feet can’t take the swim ramp concrete getting to transitions
-
Bike tool and tube, don’t let all your hard work training get lost for a flat tire
-
For running shoes, we suggest you opt for elastic racing shoelaces that don’t require tying which speeds up the process of putting on your shoes
Pre-Race Bike Inspection – we have KMAN Cyclery onsite that can assist you with a Pre-Race Bike inspection on Friday. Be sure to plan time to test all the gear you will be using race day
Spectators: The best viewing location is from the Festival Area. You’ll be able to view the entire swim, all transitions, and the Finish. There is also great views of the run for Long Course, Trail Run and 5K/10K from the Redonda Vista Campground.

Rules: CVC Rules of the Road apply, stay to the right side of roadway. Paris Valley is narrow, and we do not want any extra vehicles (teams, parents, etc) to drive it, only normal road traffic.. There may be follow vehicles if volunteered; they need to coordinate with organizer and fill out the MVR at the USAC.org site (at least 10 days prior) to be allowed under insurance, riders should always bring pump and spare. Feed zone (bottle hand-ups) east of Fwy in San Ardo, park only where indicated. Neutral feed available, will include Bottle Grab units. After finishing, check out with the officials after the line and get off the road as soon as possible.
Do not outrage the residents by using other than the school bathrooms and portable toilets. We had complaints at the Copper Valley race in May, and as a result, are having potential difficulty with the permitting agency for next year.
There is other traffic on the roadway including large farm vehicles; always be aware of it and be prepared to slow and/or maneuver; warn riders behind you of hazards.

ELIGIBILITY AND GUIDELINES for this race
California State Championship Eligibility and Guidelines- A Joint NCNCA-SCNCA Venture
- The State Championship races are open only to riders who hold USA Cycling annual licenses and reside within the state of CA, with either the SCNCA or NCNCA region shown on the license.
a. For the top 3 Championship finishers in each field, residency must be verified by presenting a California ID or other proof of residency to the Chief Referee during the protest period
-
Out-of-State Racers within SCNCA or NCNCA are allowed to participate but will not qualify for championship podiums. They will be eligible for any other awards and prizes, excluding championship medals, prizes, or jerseys.
-
At state, regional, or national championships riders are restricted to competing in races specific to their race age and/or category. Juniors and Masters cannot race up or down for championship races. Racers must use their correct racing age, which is listed on the USAC License.
-
Classes may be combined and riders race together but will be scored separately in accordance with the guidelines outlined in this document and the USAC Rulebook.
-
A state champion will be awarded to the first rider of the below age and license categories. Classes will be the same for men and women:
JUNIORS
- 11-12 • 13-14
-
15-16
-
17-18
MASTERS (restricted to cat 1-3 for men aged 35-54 and women
35-44; thereafter open to cat 1-4)
- 35-39 • 40-44 • 45-49 • 50-54 • 55-59 • 60-64 • 65-69 • 70-74 • 75-79 * 80-84 * 85+
ELITE
- Pro (Members of UCI road teams)
- Category 1/2 (**if cat 3 riders are included in the P/1/2 race, they will be eligible for the jersey if they win the race & meet eligibility requirements, however if they race separately, no separate cat 3 jersey will be awarded)
- With the exception of the Time Trial event category (not included in the inaugural year), all classes must have at least four (4) riders for a championship to be awarded. If there are less than four riders, that class will be combined with the next higher class (or lower age bracket). There will be only one championship awarded to the combined class. The exceptions to this will be for riders who are members of UCI road teams and younger Masters age groups. For UCI, if there are less than four riders, then no UCI championship will be awarded (as there is no higher category to combine them with and USAC rules prohibit members of UCI road teams to take a championship from a lower category). For Masters, combining of fields with less than four will begin with the 85+ age category. Once the four-rider minimum has been reached, the combined category will be one inclusive age group. The process will continue chronologically down through the younger age categories. If there are less than four
riders remaining in a combined age group category, riders may race, but there will be no championship awarded for that combined category.
