Since 2005 the Culpeper Triathlon has been staged out of Mountain Run Lake Park at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. After a swim in Mountain Run Lake athletes roll out of T1 for a challenging bike course with great pavement and amazing views. It’s not a PR bike course, but it is so beautiful and a place you will come back to ride! The run course has great views of Mountain Run Lake, the Blue Ridge mountains and is a rolling mix of flats and steady hills. There is so much to see and do in Culpeper, VA. Main street offers an eclectic mix of restaurants, shopping and nightlife while the surrounding area offers great hiking, biking, fishing and more.

Triathlon is seen as a niche sport for elite athletes competing at a high level. At the Fawn Lake Triathlon, we like to think that paradigm can be expanded. Imagine an event that sees three generations of a family competing on one day. Add to that, the entire Fawn Lake Community shows up! In 2025 we had 130 volunteers on the course, ensuring safety and supporting the athletes.
Finally, you will never find a better course on which to compete. You will get a pristine lake, gentle rolling hill ride on traffic-free roads and a fast, shady run course. If you want the perfect triathlon as a 1st timer or experienced racer, “Tri” Fawn Lake!

700 meter swim in lake, 12.4 mile bike ride, and 5 km run.

2026 Cal Tri Charlottesville - 8.30.26. Swim, bike and run in Charlottesville located in Central Virginia approximately 100 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. and 70 miles northwest of Richmond. This race starts with a pool swim which is very beginner friendly for athletes who are testing the waters for the first time.
12 EVENT OPTIONS. 6 Sprint distance events (Triathlon, RunBikeRun, SwimBike, SwimRun, 400 yard Swim & 5K Run) and 6 Youth Sprint distance events (Triathlon, RunBikeRun, SwimBike, SwimRun, 400 yard Swim & 5K Run). The Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival features Olympic and Sprint distance races staged out of beautiful Lake Anna State Park. With a sandy beach time trial start, a refreshing (low 70’s) freshwater swim, rolling country roads for the bike and a run course that stays completely within the State Park. The race is amazing for so many reasons, but the best part is the park itself with a beautiful venue and banked stadium style seating overlooking the swim course, run course and finish line! Bring the family as the park features miles of trails, a playground, swimming beach and visitors center featuring a “gold mine”. Outside the park you can relax post race at the Lake Anna Winery or the Coyote Hole Cider Works. Be sure to race with friends and make some new ones at the Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival.
