It’s a rite of summer on Cape Cod: an event that attracts not only local triathletes but also visitors from across the nation and the world, (28 U.S. states, 7 nations represented last year!) Join a very festive yet competitive atmosphere at the 2026 Falmouth Sprint Triathlon.

This “short” sprint race is unique for its warm salt-water swim, a scenic bike ride that climbs to the majestic Nobska Point Light, and a flat 5k run entirely alongside one of New England’s most beautiful beaches.

The Falmouth Triathlon has been voted one of the top 5 races for beginners worldwide by the Triathletes Choice Awards, so “casual” athletes and newcomers know they are very welcome to join the tri-geeks. It’s a wonderful day for everyone!

Same beautiful venue featuring improved organization with help from local triathletes. Great for beginners and experienced athletes!

Note: Given that we've been getting more non-licensed racers over the past couple of years, we have dropped USAT sanction to save non-licensed racers from having to pay the $15 one-day license.

Group discount for triathlon teams of 10 or more racers! Contact race director..

All proceeds still to benefit Mattapoisett Lions Club charities. Take advantage of early registration and beat the July 1 $5 fee increase!

David’s Old Silver Swim is an annual open ocean swim along the beautiful shoreline of Old Silver Beach, in North Falmouth, Cape Cod. Join us in the clear waters of Buzzards Bay for our 16th annual charity swim. Choose either a 2-loop, 1-mile swim; a 1-loop, 0.5-mile swim; or a non-competitive 1-loop 0.5 mile fun swim. For accurate race results, each swimmer will be provided with chip timing technology.

This event honors the memory of David Garber, who passed away in October, 2023 after living with ALS for 14 years. His spirit, friendship, determination and love was an inspiration to countless people who got to know him, from near and far.

Compassionate Care ALS Founder and Executive Director, Ron Hoffman, shared a profound and enduring friendship with David. Throughout his ALS journey, David also cultivated an extraordinary and deeply meaningful relationship with the organization. CCALS is honored to continue David’s legacy through this remarkable event.

TRI IT YOUR WAY (VIRTUAL CATEGORY)

Can't make it in person? No Problem!

Here's how Tri It Your Way works:

    1. Pick your triathlon activities! Remember, you can either swim the 400 yards or choose another activity to do for 10 minutes. The bike needs to be at least 10 miles and the run needs to be at least a 5K (yes, you may go over, but not under!).

    2. SAFETY FIRST! Make sure you are taking all the safety precautions when swimming, biking, and running. This means not swimming alone and following all the rules of the road (or trail). Just like all the precautions you take when training or racing an event, we want you to be safe.

    3. Record each activity with your watch, or phone, or bike computer.

    4. Document your tri! Whether it’s someone taking pictures of you “racing” or stopping for a selfie mid-run. We want to see you in action! Dogs, kids, partners, friends (socially distanced, of course) are encouraged to join in with you!

    5. Go to our event page and post your “race” data and your pictures. OR email your pics and race data to [email protected].

    USAT SANCTIONED

Results will count toward national and regional rankings. All USAT rules and regulations will apply. Racers are subject to time penalties or disqualification for infractions of USAT rules.

You are required to have either an annual or 1-day (Bronze) USA Triathlon membership in order to race in any USAT-sanctioned event. Non-USAT members will be required to purchase a one-day event insurance license from USA Triathlon. Costs: $14.99/sprint, $24.99/olympic, $9 per relay team member, $10 for youth.

    MASSACHUSETTS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

This is a 2026 USA Triathlon State Championships Ranking Point Event. Residents of Massachusetts can earn points which — combined with results in other qualifying races — will be totaled by USA Triathlon at the end of 2026. Note: you must participate in at least three qualifying races to be eligible for State Champion.

    EVENT INFORMATION

After five successful years as one of the most difficult sprint triathlons in the world, The GutCheck was reconfigured in 2019 as a point-to-point adventure race within Cape Cod’s 2000-acre DCR Nickerson State Park. Each year, the course will be different — and no one knows exactly what it will be until shortly before the race. Just know that it will be an endurance workout you won’t soon forget!

    WARNING!

This is a race for intermediate athletes. Expect cold water, steep hills and difficult cliffside running trails paved with tree roots. While there will be emergency medical support on-site, all participants race at their own risk.

    HOW IT WILL WORK:

Until shortly before the race, all you’ll know about this year’s GutCheck is that it will combine running, cycling, navigating and water crossing (paddleboard or swimming) in Nickerson State Park. You will present yourself at designated checkpoints along the way. Expect a finishing time of 1 to 2 hours. Whether you compete solo or with a group of your friends (2, 3 or 4 persons), the objective is to use your wits and fitness to scramble your way (including 92 steps built into a cliff) to the finish.

    THE COURSE

Athletes will receive laminated maps that have checkpoints pre-marked before the race. You will navigate between checkpoints using the map and compass. Teams must check in at all checkpoints and the finish line together. Segments will be categorized as either a run, bike, or swim/paddle discipline. Keep in mind that you may have multiple running, biking, and swim/paddling legs that alternate throughout the race. Also, unlike a relay, 2, 3 or 4-person teams compete together the entire race. This is a point-to-point race, there is no central transition area so plan accordingly.

    HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?

Prepare yourself for this event by training to be capable of trail running and biking for two-plus hours. There will be no more than four swim segments, and each swim segment will be 1/2 mile or less. Paddle segments will be longer. Biking elevations range from -5% to 8% grades, running elevations up to 18% grade. You can choose between swimming or paddleboarding. Bring your own, or a limited supply will be available to rent. Be prepared for a mile+ of total paddling or 3/4 of total swimming. Be prepared to read and follow the supplied trail map. There will be four race categories: solo, two-person, three-person and four-person. All members of a team race the entire course together, remain in close contact and finish at the same time.

    DISTANCES

    Be prepared to:

    Paddle 1 - 1.5 miles or Swim .5 - 1.0 miles

    Bike (steep hills) 5 - 10 miles

    Run (technical trails) 4 - 6 miles

    USA TRIATHLON

This is a USAT Sanctioned race! That means that we meet or exceed strict guidelines set by USA Triathlon. This benefits the athlete by providing additional insurance coverage in case of injury.

You are required to have either an annual or 1-day (Bronze) USA Triathlon membership in order to race in any USAT-sanctioned event. Non-USAT members will be required to purchase a one-day event insurance license from USA Triathlon for $14.99.

This avoids the hassle of one person registering the team but then needing to gather info and collect money from everybody. Team members can also decide prior to the event to "race solo," or vice versa. On race day each member of the team must go through check points and finish line together. May the fastest... and smartest... teams win!
