    The 2026 Steamboat Challenge is back in beautiful Buffalo Gap, Texas. The 5k, 10K and Half Marathon begin in Buffalo Gap, Texas at the Buffalo Gap Community Center. The out and back courses carry you over several challenging hills with a beautiful view at the top of Steamboat Mountain. Both races will be chip timed and results will be posted online. Don't miss out on this challenge! Race begins at 7:30 AM.

    The new Half Marathon Relay will have the first leg runner starting the race and running up to top of Steamboat, while the 2nd leg runner will start from the top of Steamboat and run to the Finish in Tuscola.

    Packet Pick Up will be Friday, March 27 from 12:00 Noon - 6 PM at Abilene Running Co. located at 2654 Industrial Blvd.

    Event details and schedule

    The race begins at 7:30 a.m. Both courses start in Tuscola. The Half Marathon and 10K are out and back courses. Packet pickup will be Friday, March 27th from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Abilene Running Company, 2654 Industrial Blvd, Abilene, Texas 79605.

    Course time limit: 4:30:00

    Join us for the 9th Annual Superhero 5k Fun Run (Walk, Run or Fly!) at the ACU Williams Performing Arts Center in Abilene, Texas.

    Why Run?

    The goal of our event is to increase awareness of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), to recruit more volunteer advocates for children and to raise funds to support our mission. All proceeds from our race will directly benefit Big Country CASA in our mission to give a “voice” to abused and neglected children in court and the Taylor County foster care system.

    Registration Fee:

    Adult Timed 5K (13 & Over) $30.00

    (includes 2026 race shirt, if registered by April 1, 2026)

    Kids Timed 5K (12 & Under) $10.00

    (2026 race shirt can be purchased for $10.00, if registered by April 1, 2026)

    Kids Untimed 5K (12 & Under) FREE

    (2026 race shirt can be purchased for $10.00, if registered by April 1, 2026)

    Chase the Villain (11 & Under) FREE

    (2026 race shirt can be purchased for $10.00, if registered by April 1, 2026)

    *Registration DEADLINE to guarantee 2026 Runner shirts CLOSES APRIL 1, 2026 @ 5pm!!!

    All registrations AFTER deadline will be given overflow shirts, if possible, in various colors. Size and color NOT guaranteed after 4/1/26

    Team entries encouraged! A prize will be awarded to the largest team.

    Race Details:

    • Entrance and parking from N. 16th Street. NO ENTRANCE from Judge Ely Blvd.

    • Race day check-in & day-of registration tables open on Saturday, May 2nd @ 7:30am.

    • Runners will be released in waves starting with Elite Runners.

    • All participants will follow our designated course around the ACU neighborhood & Campus.

    • Awards will be given to top Male & Female runners in each age category

    *PLEASE NOTE: Race route WILL include running on city streets!! Please be aware of motorist at all times and monitor children closely!!

    Early Packet Pick-Up:

    (Reminder - Race t-shirts color/size will be guaranteed ONLY to those registered by 5pm April 1, 2026)

    All participants are encouraged to dress up in a superhero theme, and show your superhero spirit! “Every child needs a hero, but abused children need SUPERHEROS!”

    Overall Top Male & Female (any age, overall fastest): Trophy & $100 Gift Card

    Top Male & Female Youth (17 and under): Medal for age category & $50 Gift Card

    Top Child (fastest boy OR girl 12 or younger): Medal for age category & $25 Gift Card
