The South Bay Swim for Mental Health returns for its seventh year, bringing together swimmers, paddlers, families, volunteers, and supporters for a day dedicated to community, connection, and youth mental health.
Held at Torrance Beach, the event offers 1 Mile, 5K, and 10K swim distances, along with 5K and 10K paddle divisions for stand-up paddleboards and kayaks. Whether you're an experienced open-water athlete or trying your first ocean event, you'll find a welcoming atmosphere where everyone belongs.
This isn't a race. There are no official finish times or pressure to compete. Participants are encouraged to swim at their own pace, enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Ocean, stop at floating aid stations for refreshments, and share the experience with friends and family. Snorkels and fins are welcome, and the day begins with a relaxed community gathering rather than a traditional mass start.
The event was created to honor those affected by mental health challenges while raising awareness and support for youth mental health programs. Every participant enters the water with their own story—some swim in memory of loved ones, others in celebration of healing, and many simply to stand beside those who need to know they are not alone.
The South Bay Swim for Mental Health celebrates the healing power of movement, nature, and community. Every stroke helps support local youth mental health services while reminding us that meaningful change happens when we come together.
Whether your goal is to complete your first ocean mile, challenge yourself with a 10K, paddle alongside friends, or simply spend a memorable morning by the sea, we invite you to join us and swim with purpose.
