At Canaqua Sports, our goal has always been to host great events in exceptional locations. The Welland Community Boathouse is a unique location that brings the country into the city. This beautiful section of the Welland Recreational Canal is the perfect place for our Mid-Summer Classic Event
Midsummer Open Water Swim
Come and join us in the beautiful Welland Recreational Canal and pick your distance. Choose from our 2.0K, 4K and 10K distances

Course: The course will be a 2.0 km loop. All swimmers will do 1, 2, or 5 loops depending on their chosen distance.

The Mid-Summer Open Water Swim is open to swimmers of all ages 12 and up. We invite all those interested to join us and enjoy a great swim at this fantastic venue.
Mudskipper Midsummer SwimRun Challenge
Yes, its Back for 2026. We are very excited to bring back Mudskipper SwimRun Welland as part of our Mid-Summer Classic. Similar to the swimrun we do in June, this race includes 3K of swimming and 8K of running over 5 stages. A great distance for those looking to give swimrun a try for the first time, and for those who prefer a shorter, faster race!
NEW FOR 2026 is our Midsummer SwimRun Relay.
One person runs, and one person swims—a new type of swimrun. Grab a partner and give it a try.
Midsummer Trailrun
New to the Midsummer Classic, Run 1 or 2 laps of our 5k course along the beautiful Welland Recreational Canal.

Over the years, the Welland Recreational Canal and the Welland International Flatwater Centre have become one of the main focal points of our summer season. Welland Canal Open Water Swim
Featuring the
Welland 15K Ultraswim.... yes it's back!
One of the most iconic open-water swim events of the season, and a part of the Canaqua Sports Open Water Swim Series since 2017. With distances of 1K, 2.5K, 5K, 10K, and our 15K Ultraswim, this event has something for everyone.
We tried the 10K last year, and it is once again a part of this event.
Imagine a 10K and a 15K at the same event!
Canaqua Sports is very pleased to be running the Elma Couture 1K Swim as a part of our day's event. This distance is run in honor of Elma Couture, who ran the Welland Canal Open Water Swim for so many years
Elma's pride was in this distance as it brought the younger age group swimmers to this event, often trying open water swimming for the first time.
We welcome ALL open water swimmers, regardless of your ability, to come and enjoy a day of swimming at the beautiful Welland International Flatwater Centre.
What a great way to end the open water season!

Enjoy a single loop swim with calm waters as you run directly up the Grandstands into the transition area. The Half Bike Course contains two loops along the well paved Niagara Parkway with closed roads for nearly 64km. The Olympic Bike Course features 25km of closed roads - A first for any race in Ontario! The run course is relatively flat and fast with a couple of challenging hills.
