The 49th annual Pow Wow Days 5K, 10K, 1 Mile Fun Runs take place in conjunction with the annual 4th of July Lion's Day Festivities in Tomahawk. All races depart from Veterans Memorial Park on the beautiful Wisconsin River. Click HERE for a Google Earth Map of all race routes and details. The 10K is run on a scenic route along the river towards the turn around point atop beautiful Kings Hill just past the historic Kings Dam. The 5K looped course is basically flat and follows the 10K route for approximately 2400 meters then cuts across the edge of the Tomahawk High School property and back to School Road before running into Somo Ave then back to Memorial Park on 6th St. The Mile Fun Run is also a looped course for all ages, however awards are only for those 12 and under. 5K/10K races start at 8:30 AM sharp and the Mile Fun Run begins around 9:30 AM, after the majority of the 5K participants have finished.
Pre-registrant bib and t-shirt pick-up for all races starts at 7:00 AM under the gazebo in the park. Pre-registration will end at Noon on Thursday, July 3rd. Race day registration station closes at 8:15 AM for the 5k & 10k and 9:15 AM for the 1-Mile Fun Run, with no guaranteed t-shirt. So, save money and get a t-shirt by registering early. Please note that T-Shirts are only guaranteed with registrations before 6/12/2026. A limited supply of shirts will be available for purchase on race day.
The last few years we have had between 600-700 participants! Once again we will have a July 4th Independence Day "Most Patriotic" costume contest with prizes for the runners with the top three outfits. The top one-hundred 10K finishers are guaranteed to receive a finishers 10K medal in the finish chute. The top three finishers in each age group for the 5K and 1-mile Fun Run will receive medals that will be available at the awards table under the gazebo. There will be refreshments in the finishing corral for race finishers provided by Northwoods Vineyard Church. Please remember that 5K and 10K races will start together. Eventually the races lead to a Y-intersection where the 5K runners take a sharp right turn onto school grounds and 10K runners go left continuing on King Road.
**Reminder-->There will not be an Awards Ceremony, instead awards for the 5k and Fun Run can be picked up after you finish your race at the Awards Table which will be located under the gazebo. Please ensure you have your race bib with you, as the awards volunteer will need to verify your place with the Pttiming live results strictly using your bib number. Award winners in the 10k will receive their award in the finish chute.
**In case of inclement weather the tentative plan would be to run the race the next day. Please check your email and listen to the local radio station (WJJQ 92.5) for updates.
Come enjoy the inaugural Pedal in the Pines bike ride on Saturday, July 11, 2026! The ride begins and ends at the St. Germain Community Park in downtown St. Germain, Wisconsin. Bikers can enjoy a scenic road ride through the Northwoods of Wisconsin, or select one of the trail ride options through the woods. The event is scheduled to run from 7:30-2:00 on Saturday, July 11, 2026. All proceeds benefit the St. Germain Silent Trails UA. The mission of this group is to promote, develop, and support the non-motorized trail systems in St. Germain. This group currently supports the Awassa trails, Fern Ridge trails, and the paved St. Germain Hike/Bike trails. We offer year-round activities for all ages.
Ride maps and additional information can be found on our website http://pedalinthepines.org
This event is born from years of competing in meets across the country and inspired by the strong tradition of distance-focused track events right here in Wisconsin. Our goal is simple (and slightly obsessive): to create a meet centered around the mile.
Athletes of all ages and abilities are welcome, from K–12 runners to collegiates, pros, and masters. Events will range from a fun 400 meters for our youngest competitors to the featured one-mile race, covering just over four laps around Hatchet Field on a recently renovated track surface inside a completely updated stadium. Yes, it’s technically more than four laps. No, we didn’t do the math wrong. Welcome to track.
While the competition is expected to be intense, the atmosphere will stay fun and relaxed. Expect fast races, loud cheers, questionable pacing decisions, and that unique mix of pain and joy only distance runners truly understand. The vibe will stay light, positive, and welcoming for athletes, spectators, and anyone who wandered in and asked, “Wait… you only run one mile?”
Supporting Hatchet Distance Running
In addition to great racing, the Hatchet Mid-Summer Mile serves a bigger purpose. Proceeds from the event directly support the distance runners of the Hatchet cross country and track programs. Funds raised will help provide new uniforms and warmups (because mismatched gear is not rizz worthy), upgraded training and racing equipment, and resources to host higher-quality home meets. That means flags that are actually yellow, course markings that are straight (and not suspiciously crooked), and equipment that makes it look like we knew what we were doing when we set everything up.
In other words, the opportunity for growth is endless, and we just want to give our student-athletes the best experience possible while also providing competition for the athletes of all kinds especially from right here in the Northwoods.
A lot more information is coming soon, including the event schedule, sponsors, registration details, shirts, awards, and maybe food trucks or other vendors to reward you after you’ve earned it. For now, be sure to mark your calendars:
