Enjoy this historic festival with a 5K or 10K race on Saturday, June 20.
Although it started as the “Strawberry Festival”, Berry Dairy Days has been a consistent part of the community for the past 88
years! Berry Dairy Days continues to celebrate Burlington’s history, agriculture, farming, traditions and community. In 1937, the first annual “Berry Dairy Days” was launched when the Burlington volunteer firefighters organized a fundraiser to purchase new equipment. The community event served as a fundraiser and a way to celebrate strawberry farming in Burlington. To add excitement and draw a crowd, they made a giant strawberry shortcake that was pulled down Fairhaven Avenue in red wagons. Pieces of the cake were handed to the crowd that had gathered to catch a glimpse of the shortcake. As the festival grew not only in size but in scope, in 1965 the event was handed over to the Burlington Chamber of Commerce to continue the tradition. Then-President Roger Hulbush, along with other community members, decided to re-name the festival “Berry Dairy Days” to reflect the
growing influence of the dairy business and ongoing strawberry farming in Burlington. Now, the festival is co-hosted by the Burlington Chamber of Commerce and the City of Burlington. Berry Dairy Days is one of the oldest festivals in Skagit County. It still represents Burlington’s impressive agriculture and farming community. This three day festival includes a variety of awesome events.

Register now! This camp is limited to the first 50 registered participants.
The Cowlitz Valley Runners (CVR) are excited to host this day camp (June 24th to June 26th from 9:30 AM to Noon each day)
for incoming 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Campers will meet each day at the RA Long High School auxiliary gym and have running events at the high school and nearby Lake Sacajawea Park. The camp will introduce kids to aerobic conditioning, proper warmups, running games and activities, racing, team building, health and nutrition, goal setting, running shoes and clothing, and more. The focus will be on lots of movement and activities. The camp is free! Campers will get a t-shirt, water bottle, snacks, and a $5.00 discount to CVR's Go Fourth Mile race on July 4th (immediately before the Longview Go 4th Parade). There will be lots of prizes awarded during the camp too.
This event is free so that any eligible student can participate regardless of his/her family's financial status. There are, however, several expenses for CVR to make this a camp that kids will remember. So, please consider donating to the CVR. We also seek a "presenting" corporate sponsor(s) for the Youth Running Camp so we can continue to keep this event free to the kids in future years. Donations to the CVR support our student scholarship fund, our Youth Running Camp, and the many activities that we do to promote running and walking as a sport and fitness exercise. CVR is a 501(C)(3) charitable non-profit organization through our affiliation with the Road Runners Clubs of America.

Q: Do you accept matching gifts, and how are they credited towards my fundraising goal?
A: Definitely! Simply ask your HR rep or your employers matching gifts rep to submit the paperwork to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Be sure to note the matching gift is for Defeat. Once we receive the matching gift, we’ll post to your participant page. Please note the time it takes to receive the actual gift can vary depending on your company. Some companies will send the money within a couple weeks of your request, while others take months to send the money.
Check to see if your company has a matching gift program by clicking here.
Matching gifts are an easy way to increase your fundraising. Be sure to encourage your donors to submit matching gift requests to leverage your fundraising.
Q: What if someone from a foreign country wants to donate to my page?
A: They can simply donate by credit card to your personal fundraising page and just enter the amount in American dollars. Please encourage any Canadian friends to donate online instead of by check.
Q: Why direct the race proceeds to Fred Hutch?
A: We want our donors and volunteers to know with perfect confidence that their donations and time will be going to directly support multiple myeloma research. The work being done at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is on the cutting edge, moving fast, and providing great results to date. They have made it clear to us: our support helps them get new treatment options to patients faster!
MULTIPLE MYELOMA QUESTIONS
Q: What is multiple myeloma?
A: Multiple myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells found in bone marrow. The disease occurs when the body makes too many abnormal plasma cells called, myeloma’s. Plasma cells are created when a type of lymphocyte called a B-cell responds to an infection. Normal plasma cells help the immune system fight disease by making antibodies (immunoglobulins) which attack and kill germs.
Q: When plasma cells become cancerous and grow out of control, they can produce a tumor called a plasmacytoma. These tumors generally develop in bone, but can also be found in other tissues. If someone has more than one plasmacytoma, they have multiple myeloma.
A: What are the symptoms of multiple myeloma?
Patients with multiple myeloma present with a number symptoms including low blood counts, bone and calcium problems, frequent infections, and kidney problems. Bone pain, anemia, fatigue and more frequent infections are all traits of multiple myeloma.
Q: What treatments exist for multiple myeloma?
A: Chemotherapy, stem cell transplant, and targeted radiation therapy are the most common. However, the funds raised by events like Defeat Multiple Myeloma are supporting research into new treatments like immunotherapy using targeted T-Cells.
Q: No one I know has multiple myeloma, why should I care about this disease?
A: Despite the crippling nature of the symptoms and the fact that multiple myeloma is the second most common blood cancer, there is poor awareness, relatively little funding, and few truly effective treatments. However, in the past decade, research into multiple myeloma has progressed rapidly. The incredible advancements make us optimistic that a cure is within reach. Defeat Multiple Myeloma’s mission is to support promising, early-stage, multiple myeloma research aimed at finding a cure. However, we need the help of people like you to make that happen.
Q: Where can I find more information about multiple myeloma?
A: The Fred Hutch website is a great resource for further information about multiple myeloma and many other diseases. https://www.fredhutch.org/en/diseases/multiple-myeloma.html

Sea To Sound is a 70 mile, three-day, multi-modal group ride spanning the entire length of the Olympic Discovery Trail. It is also a fundraising opportunity for Ian's Ride, a 501c3 non profit in the
State Of Washington. The Olympic Peninsula is the farthest northwest expanse of land one can explore along the US coast. In fact, the Rails to Trail Conservancy recently decided to add the ODT to the Great American Rail-Trail – making a route from Washington, DC to the Pacific Ocean here in Washington State. Over 3700 miles! For our event, we will offer aid stations and support along the entire route. Wheelchair users are strongly encouraged! We will support you. Just tell us what you will need.
To accommodate everyone, we are offering a virtual option. This means, you can join along with us, at your own pace, from your own neighborhood. Upload your miles here, follow along to see where you are on our route, and most importantly, Get Outside! The virtual option has until 12/31 for completion.
Day 1: Friday, Aug 22nd
Day 1 is 20 miles. It begins on the west side of Lake Crescent, at the Camp Creek Trailhead, 36.3 miles west of Port Angeles on Hwy 101, South of Hwy 101 on Cooper Ranch Rd. We encourage folks to park at the Spruce Railroad trailhead and shuttle to the Camp Creek trailhead. This section of the trail is stunning, smooth, and remote with big trees and peekaboo views of Lake Crescent. The final few miles are on the recently completed Spruce Railroad section of the trail. It has a beautifully smooth surface and travels right along the edge of Lake Crescent. View maps and get the most up-to-date, detailed information from our website.
Day 2: Saturday, Aug 23rd
Day 2 is 27 miles. It begins west of Port Angeles, at the end of Crown Z Water Road at the spectacular Elwha River suspension bridge. The trail crosses the Elwha River. Long a source of hydropower and water for mills, the Elwha dams were removed in September 2011, and the largest river flowing out of the Olympics returned in hopes salmon would eventually repopulate this valley. Although there are some hilly spots, the route is almost entirely paved. There are several excellent access points to join or exit the group ride. Many will be joining us in wheelchairs. We will finish the day at Carrie Blake Park in Sequim. We offer aid stations along the way and transportation assistance when needed. View maps and detailed information on our website.
Day 3: Sunday, Aug 24th
Day 3 is 21 miles. It begins at Carrie Blake Park in Sequim. The majority of the day is paved. This year we will NOT ride along Highway 101. Our shuttles will move you from Gardiner to the four corner trailhead of the Larry Scott Trail portion of the ODT. Although not paved, this is a smooth and beautiful trail. Many will be joining us in wheelchairs. We offer aid stations along the way and transportation assistance when needed. View maps and more detailed information on our website.
Sea to Sound Scholarships
We recognize one of the biggest challenges for our disabled riders to join is the expense, particularly lodging. We’ve been fortunate to receive generous grants and donations targeted for scholarships that will cover lodging and registration costs. Unfortunately, we are only able to offer these opportunities to folks with disabilities, particularly mobility impairments. If this is something you’re interested in, please fill out our online application and we'll be getting in touch. Hope to see you there!
Virtual Participants
To accommodate everyone, we are offering a virtual option. This means, you can join along with us, at your own pace, from your own neighborhood. Upload your miles here, follow along to see where you are on our route, and most importantly, Get Outside! The virtual option has until 12/31 for completion.
Register now as a solo participant or as a team of 2+ participants (your team will work together to complete the mileage goal for your challenge) and start running, walking, wheeling or biking to complete your Sea To Sound goals! If funding is an issue, please contact us for possible scholarship opportunities.
Please do not run on unsafe roads, or areas that have been closed to the public.
