Why do we do it?
Several years ago, my dad and his friend started a yearly run on July 4th, getting a group of people together to run throughout the town with American flags. When I ran with them I would think, “Why not make a 5k out of this?” That was the beginning of the Flag Run 5k, and we’ve been dedicated to making this race happen ever since. Within the last few years, this event was made possible through all of our helpful sponsors, racers, and the community as a whole. Last year we had over 350 runners and this year we are planning to host 500+ runners. Since 2019, $25,500 has been donated to the VFW and Boerne Fire Department. We were able to give a scholarship for $2,500 to a high school senior last year that went toward tuition at TEEX fire school. This year, the proceeds will go to the Boerne Fire Department to help with the purchase of a Wildland Paramedic Unit - UTV and another scholarship for next year’s senior class. These items are not always able to be paid in the department’s budget.
The 4th of July to me represents freedom and I want to do my part in helping those that keep us free. Camden Vicknair

Race 1 of Alamo Beer Series Challenge 2026
This is race 1 in a series of races that are to be treated as
milestone training runs. We follow a 18 week training schedule designed for runners and running groups that are training for the San Antonio Rock and Roll Marathon and Half Marathon. These milestone races are designed to keep you on track. They are also used to allow you to meet everyone in the area that is training just like you.
Each event gets longer in distance to fit into the half or full marathon training schedule. Each event will also have a 5k to allow any runner or walker to get in on the fun.
This series of races was developed by trainers that wanted to teach their runners how to race. These races are designed to help runners know what to do on race day. How to get your packet, where to put your race number, and chip. What to do the day before, week before and race day. The pressure and anxiety of a race for runners can be daunting. By preplanning and rehearsing you as a runner will arrive at your goal race with experience to help minimize mistakes and problems.
Sign up for this series if you are planning on running a half marathon or full marathon in the winter of 2026/2027.
We’ve added a twist to this years race, adding an energy filled Relay Race. This is a Half Marathon 3-person relay to add more excitement and camaraderie to the beginning of running season. Get on your text group, and build your Team!
If you are a trainer send us an email we want to get your entire group on board. [email protected]

First overall male and female and first overall masters, male and female.
All age group awards will be based on chip time due to needing to start in waves.
We award for 1st through 4th so don’t leave without your award.
Some things to consider;
If you are a walker, make sure you check in at the timing table and tell them you are walking the entire race, and you are not running even on step, this puts you in a different category.
If you finish make sure your time matching what your watch says and that your name is spelled correctly and your gender is correct and you are in the right age category.
If you do not finish do not leave until you tell the timing people, because we do not leave until all runners are finished, we will have to go look for you.
Don’t run with someone else’s number.
Wear your number on the front of your shorts and do not bend the number as it has your chip embedded into the bib.
We want you to have fun and here are a few things that might help.
Show up with plenty of time to get your bib, go to the bathroom and get in line before the start of your race.
Invite family and or friends and ask them if they would like to volunteer while you run.
Being a volunteer for a couple of hours is an enjoyable thing, we promise they will love it.
Bring a change of clothes and leave them in your car so you can get out of sweaty clothes and come back to the awards ceremony.
Each race has it's own fun design on the ever loved super soft tri-blend race shirt (unisex)
We continue to have non-profits involved and you will be able to donate to their cause when signing up.
Virtual runners
We offer the opportunity to run on your own but still sign up for the race. Life happens and sometimes even at the last minute you can’t make it to the race. You can switch to virtual we prefer if you do that on the Thursday before the race. The reason is that we assign bib numbers on Thursday before the race at noon. After noon it becomes hard for us to make changes and several people have to get involved. You may be charged more to switch to virtual after Thursday before each race.
If you are a virtual runners we do not put a limit on when you have to run. If you are injured it might be a few weeks before you can run that distance do not stress out. Do it when you can. We do have a virtual tab on our website click there and follow the instructions. If you want your packet mailed there will be a charge to mail your packet and this charge will be determined as we get closer to the event. Presently it is $12 per packet.
No Refunds! Thanks for signing up for our race, sometimes things change and you have to transfer your race entry or change the race, we understand. Please understand that this takes time to make these changes and we charge $20 to make that change or transfer two days before the race. $30 to transfer the day before the race. It doesn't mean we don't love you.
No transfers after race day.
No Dogs allowed.
All of these things are here to help. We still love you, we just want you to have fun.
