JUNE 27, 2026.
This will be the second event in the 2026 Capt'n Karl's Night Trail Run Series - held at Muleshoe Bend LCRA Recreation Area, approximately 40 miles northwest of Austin in picturesque Spicewood, TX. Muleshoe Bend is located on the scenic Lower Colorado River, Lake Travis region. This course is challenging, rocky, technical with 3094 feet of elevation gain. These trails are deceptively tough, with heat & humidity making Muleshoe Bend a worthy adversary. This is primarily due to the thick foliage & heavy woods, creating a peaceful environment & no wind. Get ready to sweat.
While every racer will get some cool swag, June 4th is the deadline to get a shirt.
Come join us for the 46th year of the Toughest 10K in Texas 10K, 5K & 1-Mile Run! This race is part of the 2026 Centex Race Series, with points for both the 5K and 10K races.
This race is hosted by the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center and is held in conjunction with the Annual Lampasas Spring Ho Festival. Event proceeds go back into the Lampasas community for scholarships and other non-profit donations. Thank you for your participation.
All events start at 7 a.m. Runners will be staged in the order of their races - 10K, 5K, 1-Mile. *All races are chip timed.
Race Day Registration: Will be available on personal devices (phones) on race morning from 5:30a-6:30am. Credit card only through RunSignUp!!
Race Packets: Will be available for pickup Friday, July 10th from 4p-6p at the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce. First 200 get a race bag. Runners and guests will be provided the opportunity to view the route and ask questions about the race. Participants are strongly encouraged to get their packet at this time to avoid lines on race day! However, packets may also be picked up on race morning before 6:30 a.m.
Snacks and water will be available for all participants after the race at the finish. Make sure to stop by the photo tent to commemorate the occasion with a photo! *T-Shirts are not guaranteed past June 26th so, register early. However, there may be some additional for purchase on-site. (Cash or Check)
Parking: Available in the Bozarth Fowler Gym parking lot at the Lampasas Middle School.
Awards: - Medals will be awarded to the Top (3) runners in each age category (14 age groups for male & female including overall winners) from each race. The ceremony will begin approximately at 7:30 with the 1-mile winners (ribbons awarded) and will continue after with 5k & 10k winners. Awards are based on ages as of 1/1/2026 per Cen-Tex race series rules for point standings. Medals will NOT be mailed, but can be picked up after race day at the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce.
BE AWARE!!: Parts of the race course are open to vehicular traffic throughout the run. It is VERY important for you to stay alert throughout the race, stay inside cones and obey all race and traffic signage. Jogging strollers and dogs are permitted but must start in the back.
(5) water stops will be placed throughout the course for hydration and basic 1st aid needs/communication to the race coordinator should it be needed.
Races will be held rain or shine; however, if there is severe weather in the area the race start may be delayed or cancelled. Registration fees are non-refundable.

Why Choose This Race?
Fast, PR-Friendly USATF Certified Marathon Course (Boston Qualifier)
Unlike typical Texas summer ultras with brutal heat and technical trails, our smooth asphalt loop with minimal elevation gain creates ideal conditions for record-setting performances. This is a USATF-certified course: Certification code: TX25015LAB.
Evening Start Format
Race as the sun sets and July's magnificent Buck Moon rises over the limestone bluffs. Our strategic evening start times for longer distances mean cooler temperatures when you need it most.
Pacers Allowed
While we won't be providing official pacing groups for the Austin Solstice Circuit Challenge due to our size, we enthusiastically welcome personal pacers for both the Marathon, 50K and 52.7 Mile Solo events. Personal pacers can join Marathon and 50K participants after 8 loops and 52.7 Mile runners after 16 loops (approximately halfway points). Each pacer must pay a $15 fee that covers park entry, administrative costs, and an official pacer bib. Pacers need to sign a waiver and wear their designated "PACER" bib while on course. Runners are responsible for arranging their own pacers, but the loop format makes it particularly convenient for your support crew to join when you need them most. We find this flexibility is especially appreciated by first-time marathoners and ultra runners who benefit from personalized support during the challenging later miles as day turns to evening.
Pickup Information:
Saturday Packet Pickup:
Available from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
Race Day Pickup:
For those unable to attend on Saturday or who prefer to pick up on race day, same-day packet pickup will be available Sunday morning from 5:30 AM to 6:30 AM.

Beat the heat. Seize the morning. Earn your day.

Get your friends and family, and join in on this close to Austin and San Antonio lake party and trail run! The finish line arch will be as close to the edge of Lake Travis as we can get it (Austin area’s famed lake boasting over 9 miles of shoreline)! So when you finish you can cruise straight into the water to cool off and start your floating post-race party! This means, as the lake rises and falls each year, the distance will possibly slightly change, so we'll add "ish" to each distance...and that's perfect when everything and everyone stays mellow.
We’re incredibly thankful for the support of this race by the Travis County Parks Foundation!
While every racer will get some cool swag, August 18 is the deadline to get a shirt.
During registration, we are collecting $10 for one day of access to the park. If runners are staying for more than one day, they will have to pay additional amounts upon entering the park.

A RUN WITH PURPOSE: Supporting HKRS Cedar Park Youth Programs
Limited financial resources, lack of access to youth sports programs, social isolation, and barriers to healthy lifestyle activities are just some of the challenges young people face in accessing running programs. Through HKRS Cedar Park's 5-week fall and spring racing series, mentorship opportunities, and having a supportive community presence, HKRS Cedar Park helps kids build confidence, develop healthy habits, and overcome obstacles to active living.
HKRS Cedar Park is part of a nationally recognized organization. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit it offers registration assistance to ensure all children can participate regardless of their family's financial situation, and anyone can access their programs including families new to running. All of their programs are welcoming, inclusive, and tailored to each individual child's age and ability level. Your money helps to do this.
You can donate directly to HKRS Cedar Park here: https://runsignup.com/Race/Donate/TX/CedarPark/HKRSCedarParkTX
After deducting expenses, all remaining proceeds from the Fields of Gold Trail Run will benefit HKRS Cedar Park's youth running programs. Your participation directly supports:
Registration assistance for families who cannot afford program fees
Essential equipment including race bibs, timing equipment, and safety materials
Program expansion to reach more children in the Cedar Park community
Volunteer training and coordinator development
Community outreach to underserved families
"When you run through these golden fields, you're not just covering miles — you're helping ensure every child in Cedar Park has the opportunity to experience the joy of running and develop lifelong healthy habits!"
