For 6 weeks, young athletes across Rhode Island and Massachusetts have been swimming, biking, and running toward this one incredible goal!
This finale event brings together participants from Race4Chase programs across both states to celebrate their hard work, determination, and confidence gained throughout the summer. It’s more than a race, it’s a powerful celebration of youth achievement, healthy living, and community support.
While this event is exclusively for Race4Chase participants and not open to public registration, we need enthusiastic volunteers to help make it a safe, smooth, and unforgettable experience for every child crossing that finish line.
The Ocean State Crossing draws top Challengers from across the nation to set out on a 15 mile paddle & row navigation challenge across iconic Rhode Island Sites - Fort Adams, Newport Harbor :: Point Judith Lighthouse. This event hosts paddlers & rowers of multiple disciplines, fundraising & celebrating Summer Safe Ocean State culture!
The Ocean State Crossing end points are Fort Adams Beach In Newport Harbor & Roger Wheeler State Beach in Point Judith. The Crossing direction will be based on weather conditions with the preferred route being Point Judith to Newport.
The Ocean State Crossing is an event to celebrate Ocean Culture & support the mission of Summer Safe Ocean State L3C Organization (organization which prioritizes mission over profits & at all times further accomplishments of charitable or educational purposes). Summer Safe Ocean State L3C is committed to fostering awareness and impact toward safe, coastal recreation. We create and support initiatives which positively and directly address Drowning Prevention, Cardiac Health/Cancer Prevention & Coastal Sustainability in The Ocean State.
The Ocean State Crossing is the newest race in The Summer Safe Ocean State Event Series. Joining Waterman Eco-Challenge & Summer Safe Ocean State 5K/10K to round out a dynamic coastal recreation experience this summer!

Experience the Challenge of Ocean State Ultra! Welcome to Ocean State Ultra! Whether you’re a seasoned ultra runner or tackling the distance for the first time, expect a day of grit, determination, and camaraderie. Get ready to embrace the elements, conquer the terrain, and make lasting memories in this epic race that promises both a challenge and an experience you’ll never forget. Let’s make it happen! Race Details Ocean State Ultra consists of 3 race categories: 100 mile, 12 hour, and 6 hour. The three races will all begin on Saturday August 29th and the 100 mile runners will have 36 hours until 6pm on Sunday August 30th. The race is located at Big River State Management Area in West Greenwich, Rhode Island Set-up Tents of any kind are prohibited other than for our designated aid stations please don’t bring one! Participants may set up tables for their supplies in the designated area by the start line. No fires are allowed! Please do not arrive earlier than 6:00am as race crew will be
setting up. 100 mile cutoff Runners will have 36 hours (until 6pm Sunday) to complete the 100 miles. Aid Stations There will be a fully stocked main aid station at the start area. There will be additional manned aid station at about the 5 mile mark of each loop. In addition to these, there will be two unmanned water/electrolyte stations at around 2.5 miles away from the start and finish location. Aid stations will have basic necessities including water, electrolytes, candy, and snacks. As the day progresses we will included hot meals such as ramen, rice, eggs, etc.Drop bags may be given to race staff. They must be clearly marked with your name and/or bib number. Drop bags are allowed at any of our aid stations. To accommodate nut allergies, no nuts will be served at aid stations but you may bring nut products in your drop bag. The Course LOOP! If you participated last year, you will be happy to know that we have a true loop this year. The course consists of 10 mile loops (1.5 miles of desert, 1 mile of pavement, and 7.5 miles of trails) through Big River Management Area. The trail is relatively flat with an elevation gain of 430ft per loop and minimally technical terrain. Come join us for a fun, fast 5K in Stonington Borough. Walker and runners welcome. The course is a certified 5K looping through the seaside village of Stonington Borough. Single mass start for runners and walkers in 2025.

The race starts and finishes on Main Street in Stonington Borough, adjacent to the Stonington Free Library. On street parking is available. Packet pickup pre-race TBD. Race day packet pick up will be from 5 pm to 6 pm at the starting point of the race. Food, drink, and awards ceremony to be held post-race.

It will take place on Sunday, August 16th, 2026 at 9:30am.
Registration and Check-In will open at 8AM in the Sneekers Parking Lot (Where there is NOT PARKING FOR RUNNERS)
First 200 registered will receive a t-shirt! First come first served on sizes race day.
$100 for First Overall Male and Female. Gift Cards for top 3 (Excluding top OA) for male/female in the following divisions: <=19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+, plus top 3 Nonbinary. Awards are based on gun time.

Runners should park at the EB Parking Lot, M-Lot/Annex, which comes up on google maps. It is about 0.1 miles west of Sneekers Cafe (568 Poquonnock Rd, Groton, CT). PLEASE DO NOT PARK AT SNEEKERS, there will be large race parking signs at the EB Lot. Directions from the highway are:

Register for the 4th Annual MAD 5K. (Veteran and Active-duty discounts available prior to payment) The first 100 registered participants will receive a participation medal as you cross the finish line. There will be first place medals awarded to male and female in each age group. This is a relatively flat course with beautiful water views along much of the run. Plan on arriving 30-60 minutes before the race start time to ensure you have time to park and check in prior to start time of 9:00 am.
With participant purchase, each racer will obtain free access to parking at Ocean Beach Park for the race.

Enjoy not only the Military Appreciation Day 5K, but a Military Appreciation Day all day event. Active-duty military, Veterans, and their family members are welcome into Ocean Beach Park for this one-day event for free. (Military ID or DD214 to be presented for free admission at the gate). After the 5K, enjoy a day on the beach and enjoy what Ocean Beach Park has to offer, from waterslide, rides, pool, miniature golf and great concessions. Enjoy a boardwalk full of Vendors supporting the local military in our community.
At 3:00pm on the stage of the boardwalk there will be a military ceremony awarding active-duty service members a special action award and Veteran recipients of the CT War-Time Medal recipients. We hope you can not only join in on the 5K fun, but also enjoy a day full of festivities at Ocean Beach Park, named one of the top 25 in the country by Travel and Leisure.
