Although it's called a 5 Miler, the distance will be about a 1/2 mile longer depending on the start/finish line for race day. The event is put on by the PA Trail Dogs in conjunction with the fine folks at Little Pine State Park. After the race, there will be some food and drink at the pavilion by the Lake.

Mountain Man Ultra If you’ve spent time running in Pine Creek Valley, this course may already feel familiar. The Mountain Man Ultra 50K follows the same route as the former Call of the Wilds 50K - familiar rugged trails, familar relentless climbs -- all more of that along with a new name and date. For many runners in the region, this is a return to a well-known and respected challenge. This is for experienced trail runners who are comfortable on steep, technical terrain and long climbs. If you’re new to trail racing, this course will likely feel overwhelming - expect constant focus, rugged footing, and very little room to relax... Course The race starts in the dark with a short road climb before dropping you onto the Mid State Trail, where things turn technical fast - rocky, off-camber, and constantly changing. The first half is relentless, with little room to settle in until a brief reset along Pine Creek Trail in Ramsey. The back half is where it gets serious. Long climbs stack up across
Spiked Buck, Tiadaghton, and Pesto before Torbert hits at mile 26 - steep, unforgiving, and perfectly timed to hurt. From the top, it’s about four miles to go, including the descent down Panther Run to the finish. With roughly 7,500 feet of elevation gain packed into 50 kilometers, this course is relentless from start to finish.Median finish is around 7:45. Most runners land between 6 and 10 hours. The 11-hour cutoff is real. Aid Station & Support Details coming soon! Swag Details coming soon! Event's current local time: 4:37 AM ET
Eastern States 100 is 103 rocky miles with +20,000ft of elevation gain and a finisher rate of about 49 percent. Welcome to Pennsylvania!
Registration opens October 1st at 6pm EST.
Only the hardiest of runners will complete this circumnavigation of Pine Creek. A Pennsylvania Scenic River. The largest creek in the United States. The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. The river route that supplied the lumber that built America. The Iroquois called it Tiadaghton – the River of Pines. Or is it the Lost or Bewildered River? After 100 miles of multiple 900 – 1200 foot climbs and equally punishing descents, the second definition will seem appropriate.
Runners will experience portions of some of the most scenic and most challenging trails in Pennsylvania. The Mid State Trail – Pennsylvania’s wildest footpath. The Black Forest Trail – the crown jewel of Pennsylvania’s long distance hiking trails featuring hills, rocks, and on average, a vista for every mile of trail. The West Rim Trail – a backpacker’s favorite for experiencing the Pine Creek Gorge. The Donut Hole Trail, the T-Squared Trail, the Long Branch Trail, the Tiadaghton Trail, and several shorter connector trails will round out the 100 mile loop.
Ramsey at the south end is nothing more than a collection of houses and seasonal residences. You will cross Pine Creek on a former railroad trestle before climbing to the panoramic Ramsey Bend Vista. The north end is Blackwell, a tiny village with the historic Blackwell Hotel restaurant/bar and a small convenience and gift store. You will cross a unique one lane steel grate bridge that bends in the middle prior to climbing Gillespie Point - The Matterhorn of the Alleghenies - the only true peak in Pennsylvania.
In between are miles of hills, rocky hollows, diverse forest and endless views. Wolf Path, Cougar Run, Hemlock Mountain, Jerry Run Falls, Panther Run, and the Algerine Wild Area are just some of the local trails you'll traverse. The course is full of single track, old logging roads and abandoned stone quarries. Deer, bear, bald eagles, and rattlesnakes may be seen. Other than the well-stocked aid stations we will provide, the only civilization centers you will pass through are Ramsey, Blackwell, Hyner Run State Park and Slate Run.
Qualifying for Eastern States
The Eastern States 100 is not an entry-level ultramarathon. The course terrain, elevation gain, and weather conditions present unique challenges that require significant prior trail running experience.
Minimum Qualification Requirement
All participants must finished at least one advertised 50K trail race within the official cut-off time prior to registering/picked from the waitlist for Eastern States 100.
The qualifying race must take place between January 1, 2024, and the date of registration/picked from the waitlist.
The race must be an officially organized trail event with publicly available results (e.g., posted on Ultrasignup or a race/timing website).
Non-Qualifying Events
The following do not meet the qualification requirement:
Timed events (e.g., 12-hour, 24-hour races)
Fastest Known Times (FKTs), peak bagging or Long-Distance runs/hikes
Obstacle Course Races (OCR)
Biathlon/Triathlon events (unless the run portion is a 50K trail race with official results)
Completion Requirement
The qualifying 50K must be completed prior to registration. Registrants who do not meet this requirement will not be accepted. Race management is absolute regarding the 50K requirement.
Limited flexibility on the January 1, 2024, date may be granted only in extenuating life circumstances (e.g., military service, pregnancy).
Rationale
Since the race began in 2014, Eastern States 100 has averaged just a 49% finish rate, dropping into the 30% range in hot years. High drop rates put extra strain on medical staff, logistics, and emergency crews—ultimately endangering both participants and volunteers.
The 50K requirement ensures that the participant has experience in a race environment. The intent is to ensure both participants and the race itself meet a level of knowledge and expectations.
Our course is unforgiving: relentless climbs, rugged terrain, and frequent severe weather. Without proper preparation and prior trail experience, runners are highly likely to fail.
We’re keeping it simple and consistent (50K Trail event). No subjective calls. No debates about whether a certain course, run, or effort you completed is “hard enough.”
Participant Responsibility
It is the responsibility of each participant to research the course, review maps, read race reports, and seek advice from past finishers before entering.
Race management will not provide individualized assessments of readiness. If you need to ask whether you are prepared, the answer is likely “no.”
Supported vs. Unsupported Classes
At Eastern States 100, runners are classified into two categories:
Supported – Crew assistance is allowed at designated crew-accessible aid stations, and pacers are permitted starting at approved points along the course.
Unsupported – No crew and no pacers are allowed at any point during the race.
This classification helps maintain fairness, consistency, and clarity for all participants.
COMMOM QUESTIONS
Q: As an Unsupported Runner, can I have friends or family spectate?
A: Yes. Unlike some races that prohibit spectators for unsupported runners (on the theory that “emotional support” counts as aid), we are not that strict. Spectators are welcome at crew-designated aid stations only. They may not provide food, hydration, or equipment, nor may they spectate at non-crew aid stations or elsewhere along the course.
Q: What happens if I’m registered as Unsupported but end up needing crew or a pacer during the race?
A: You will not be disqualified. Instead, you will simply be reclassified as a Supported Runner. The same logic applies in reverse: if you begin as a Supported Runner but complete the race without crew or pacers, you will be listed as Unsupported.
Q: As an Unsupported Runner, can I use aid stations?
A: Absolutely. All runners, regardless of category, have full access to official aid stations. That includes food, hydration, medical care, and any services provided by race staff and volunteers.
Q: What recognition do I receive as an Unsupported Runner?
A: Unsupported runners primarily earn bragging rights and respect from the community. Unsupported finishes are not published in the official results and there is no overall award for the category. However, Unsupported finishers will receive a small memento in recognition of their accomplishment—for example, in past years we have awarded custom-designed glassware.
Q: Why make a distinction between Supported and Unsupported?
A: There are two main reasons:
Recognition – We believe Unsupported participants deserve acknowledgment for tackling the course entirely on their own.
Permitting – Our race permits from the Commonwealth are based on total human impact (participants, crew, volunteers, and vehicles), not just the number of runners. By creating an Unsupported category, crewed aid stations are less crowded, and we can responsibly increase our overall participant cap, giving more runners the opportunity to take part in Eastern States 100.

10K Course Description
The 10k course is a loop that begins and ends at the Tiadaghton State Forest Resource Management Center, just outside of Waterville, PA. The course will begin near the office building and descend to State Route PA- 44 at the entrance to the office (intersection of Lower Pine Bottom Road and PA- 44). From here runners will take a right and proceed along PA- 44 to the Waterville Recreational Access for the Pine Creek Rail Trail, where runners will pick up the Old Wagon Road. The Old Wagon Road was the original road used to travel along Pine Creek’s corridor (when riding horses and horse- pulled wagons was still the hippest way to travel. The Wagon Road is now a shared use trail that was re-established for trail users by the Jersey Shore Outdoor Club and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR ). The course then proceeds along the Old Wagon Road with views of Pine Creek to the left and the steep hillside of Huntley Mountain to your right. This trail is gently rolling, but it has numerous softball - sized rocks making the trail slightly more technical than you might otherwise expect. Shale outcrops dot the hillside along with old grades that were used to access timber and rock quarries in the late nineteenth century. After about 1.6 miles, runners will take a right and ascend the Gleason Trail. The Gleason Trail is about .75 miles from bottom to top, and it is an unrelenting ascent. The trail is rocky, narrow, and steep. Be thankful that you’re ascending this bugger. Shortly after turning onto the Gleason Trail, be sure to look to your left to view the remnants of the large stone quarry across the stream. Then, follow the red blazes to the top of Huntley Mountain, where the Gleason Trail joins the Tiadaghton Trail. Turn right on the Tiadaghton Trail. The Tiadaghton Trail on Huntley Mountain provides easy running for a while, and the leafless trees in November will provide great views across the valley along its corridor. The Tiadaghton Trail was originally constructed by the Boy Scouts of America in the mid- twentieth century. Scouts working out of Camp Kline maintained a trail loop that allowed scouts to hike from the camp (Bonnell Flats) to Little Pine State Park and back, using the current Tiadaghton Trail and what later became the Mid State Trail (and parts of the Houselander Trail). After years of being abandoned, numerous volunteers and volunteer organizations (including the Jersey Shore Outdoor Club) in cooperation DCNR reconstructed the trail. Continue along the yellow blazed trail and descend from the top of Huntley along the old fire tower road, before veering onto single track to return to the Pine Creek Rail Trail parking lot in Waterville. Once you’ve returned to the Old Wagon Road, take a left and continue back to PA- 44 via the Pine Creek Rail Trail. Take a right on PA - 44 and follow PA - 44 back to the Tiadaghton Resource Management Center.
Half Course Description
The half marathon course is a loop that begins and ends at the Tiadaghton State Forest Resource Management Center, just outside of Waterville, PA. Participants running the Half Marathon course split off from the 10k (see course description above) at the ridge of Huntley Mountain by adding a brand new 2 mile loop that will take runners to the highest point of the mountain. Participants will run by the ruins of an old fire tower observation tower and experience a new vista along a right of way. This new loop will come as some relief as it is the least technical and steep section of the course, and a great opportunity to make up some time. Upon closing the loop, runners will descend a series of switchbacks back on the Tiadaghton Trail, which will return them to the Waterville Rail Trail Access parking lot and will branch off upon the return to Lower Pine Bottom Road and continue their journey back onto the Tiadaghton Trail, towards Ramsey. From there, they will ascend the newly introduced Eiger Trail, alias “The Quadfather ''. The name Eiger pays homage to the Eiger Mountain of the Bernese Alps, while the unofficially dubbed “Quadfather'' should indicate where the strain of the 1,000ft climb will feel most localized. Eiger was the third leg of a three phase project by DCNR that utilized old quarry grades into recreational trails. At the summit of Eiger, racers will be rewarded with a view of the pulchritudinous Bull Run Vista, but shouldn’t dally for too long! There is still quite a stretch ahead. Proceeding, runners will link up with the Log Slide Trail. As the name implies, this trail was revitalized from old logging grades from the turn of the century. Imagine how steep a grade must be to be able to slide a log down the 1 mile face of a mountain, then you will have a pretty good idea of what to expect descending this trail. Upon reaching the bottom, runners will backtrack onto Lower Pine Bottom, hanging a left, and follow the gravel road roughly one mile before reaching the final climb… the Wolf Path. There will be one small stream crossing leading up to the ascent of Wolf Path. There is nothing gradual about this trail; racers will feel the brunt of this 800ft climb almost immediately. Halfway through, the trail will conjoin with a dried stream bed, perhaps one of the more technical sections of the course. Upon summiting, runners will link up with Middle Hill Road and follow the Middle Hill Trail back to the DCNR building. Similar to the descent off Tiadaghton, Middle Hill is a screaming and unrestrained series of sharp twists and turns that will have you throwing your hands in the air and smiling your way to the finish.
Proceeds
About The Tiadaghton Trail - In Memory of Kasey KemmererThe Jersey Shore High School Outdoor Club in 2009 took on the project of re-opening a hiking trail in the Tiadaghton Forest. The club decided in that year to dedicate work on the trail to two former members of the Outdoor Club who tragically passed away in the summer of 2009. The Tiadaghton Trail had not been officially mapped or declared a viable trail since 1973. The possibility of re-opening the Tiadaghton Trail would provide one of the very few looped trails in North Central PA. The trail is approximately a 25 mile loop and goes from Ramsey Village to Little Pine State Park using both sides of the creek, and providing beautiful vistas and challenging terrain.. All proceeds from this trail race will benefit the Kasey Jack Kemmerer Memorial Scholarship Fund that selects at least one graduating senior from Jersey Shore Area High School to receive a financial scholarship each year.

Adopt a Trail Program
The PA Trail Dogs love the local trails and would like to keep them open all year long for hikers and runners to enjoy. Since our trails here in central PA tend to become overgrown in the summer months, we're looking for volunteers to adopt a section of trail and keep their section open during the summer. Visit www.patraildogs.com/trail-work-program for more information about volunteering.
Club Member
Becoming a PA Trail Dog Mountain Club member is a great way to support the trail community as 100% of the membership fees goes towards purchasing and maintaining trail tools and trail work day meals for volunteers.

Black Forest Ultra - Diabolically Epic!
One of the toughest 100k trail ultras in the Northeast. Midnight start. No crews. No pacers. No spectators. Diabolically epic!Experience the brutal yet stunning beauty of the Black Forest Trail deep in the mountains of the Pennsylvania Wilds. Climb to astounding views of the surrounding peaks and valleys and run through an assortment of forest types ranging from pine plantations, giant hemlocks and red spruce - all in the peak of fall colors. But beware, some of these beautiful vistas require climbing elevation gains of over 1,000 ft in under a mile! The course is a lollipop with over 13,400 ft of elevation gain; this is a tough and taxing course without a doubt and to add a twist to the equation, the course reverses each year so that the majority of elevation gain alternates from the back half of the course to the front half. If that monkey wrench wasn't sufficient already, the race starts at midnight in the inky blackness and you will have a strict 19 hours to complete the course! Not hard enough you say? Here's a few more layers of crazy. No crews. No pacers. No spectators. Some are calling this the evil and twisted step brother of the Worlds End 100k. No matter how you classify this beast, be prepared to exorcise your demons!
Race Information
Everything you may need to know is located on our Black Forest Ultra website! Information on the website includes: bib pick up locations, course maps, aid station charts, results, photos, service requirements, and much more.
How diabolical can it be?

The Hyner Half is open to runners/speed hikers only. Aid stations and timing for this race are based on a strict 6 hour cut-off and "walking" this course would make it impossible to finish in time. This event was not designed for walkers. Speed hikers are allowed and will really enjoy this course.Again for 2026....we're offering the shorter distance (7K) for those who want to take on the first big climb and the last downhill of the Hyner Half course, but don't feel like doing the entire 14 miles. Make no mistake though, this route gives you over 1000 feet of elevation gain and 1000 feet of loss in just 4.5 miles.
Registration Rules
There are no REFUNDS, DEFERMENTS, BIB TRANSFERS, or BANDITS for this event. If you do not agree with this policy, please refrain from signing up. Those who cannot follow our rules obviously don't belong at our events.
Description
The Hyner Half trail race is just that....it's a race. Some runners will be racing to place while others may be racing the clock. Runners will have 6 hours to complete the course. The trails that we have selected will keep runners moving through some very diverse terrain on some of the best trails in Sproul State Forest. There will be three aid stations--mile 4, 8, and 11.5. The popular 7K shares the first 2.5 miles of the course and then runners head back to the park with a 2 mile downhill finish. Hyner Run State Park is a beautiful place for a race and also has a swimming pool for runners to use throughout the day.

Description
A sixth year event to give runners a chance to run parts of the Hyner Challenge in the fall. The 25K will be modified to bypass Johnson Run but still give everyone the challenge Hyner is known for. The View, Post Draft, SOB, and Huff Run will remain as the main trails used for this event. And again for 2025, we'll be offering the 15K option. You'll follow the 25K up to the View and then split from the course at mile 5.5 and head back using the Huff Run Trail. It's a great option for those not looking for a 25K distance but still wanting to get to the View.
Registration
Registration opens December 18th and is open to the first 500 runners. PLEASE.... serious runners/hikers only. Do not sign up if you only plan on walking the course. The daylight hours are shorter this time of year and we expect everyone to be done within 6.5 hours. This course will be "slightly" easier and even a little shorter than the usual Hyner 25K. Expect 3000 feet of elevation gain over 15 miles. If you're not ready for the 25K, give the new 15K option a try.
Registration Rules
There are NO REFUNDS, DEFERRALS, BIB SWITCHES, or BANDITS for this event. No exceptions!!! If you don't like our policy for this race, PLEASE refrain from signing up.

The PA-Based events offer an experience like none other. Operating out of an historic home in Woolrich, PA, we offer a place for you and your crew to use as an operations base, a floor (or bed if you're lucky) to crash on, and most importantly, a family feel to our event. It's like the Waltons held a trail race - IYKYK!All proceeds go to trail running events and professional coaching scholarships for veteran athletes who are selected to the WTF Athlete Team. Small and intimate, but never easy! Just like our PA
Mountains! The AZ campaign is a new virtual option following a public accessible semblance of the Cocodona 250 course in reverse from Heritage Square in Flagstaff to Crown King Saloon. Starting on Veterans' Day, November 11th at 4 am, this opportunity is restricted to those who understand this is an unsupported adventure without cutoffs, aid stations, course marking or formal support. Prior experience in multi-day events is highly recommended due to the potential risks inherent in being out on the trail for 3+ days. Think of this as your personal event, go alone or with someone, use crew or unsupported. Just make sure you have someone who will pick you up in Crown King or wherever you decide to stop and communicate your status at least once a day to the campaign director. About the event
Join us on a course that started all the craze here in central PA. The famous boulder field awaits you!!!! We take you on trails called Goat Path, Lightning Ridge, Gut Check, Black Diamond, Crossover, Fleming Way, Chestnut Flats and the Gorge Trail. Again for 2026-- we're offering a 25K distance for those not ready for 25 miles, but still want to tackle the boulders. Registration opens December 16th at 7pm EST via ultrasignup to the first 600 runners. As usual, the start/ finish is at the Castanea Township Fire Company picnic grounds. There is plenty of camping space and parking available (free and no reservations needed). The fun begins on Friday night with a pre-race party and bag pick-up from 4-8pm. As usual, the race starts at 7am sharp. After finishing, stick around and enjoy the typical PA Trail Dogs post-race picnic with great food and beverage.
Before Signing Up
Before signing up----Please understand that this event is not for everyone. It is a tough trek through some pretty tough and diverse terrain and will require some rigorous training on everyone's part. We have strict cut-off times at various places on the course--Bottom of Boulder Field Mile 6.5 (10:30am), Boy Scout AS Mile 8 (11am for 25 Milers/1pm for 25Kers)), Zindel Park AS Mile 11 (12:30pm), Element 26 AS Mile 16 (3pm) and Leadership CC AS Mile 21 (5pm). The cut-off times are based on being able to finish in the daylight. There will be no exceptions to these cut-offs. They are in place for the safety of our runners and the compassion we have for our volunteers. If you don't want to take on 25 miles, we're offering a 25K option that will allow each runner to conquer the boulders and still see the Rote Overlook before heading back to the finish. All in all, we're looking to make this a most memorable experience for everyone signed up. Just like Hyner, Sproul, and the Wilds 25K, we're just a fun group of trail runners putting on a fun trail event. We're excited to get back to a more runnable course, but make no mistake, legs will be trembling at the finish line!!!.

Trail of Honor: Cody Myers Memorial Race
Presented by the Sons of Italy #146On Sunday, October 11, the Lock Haven community will gather on the trails to honor a life defined by service, leadership, and love for the outdoors. The Trail of Honor: Cody Myers Memorial Race is a meaningful 8-mile trail race through the woods Cody once explored - an event created to carry forward the values he lived every day. Proceeds benefit the Cody Myers Legacy Scholarship, supporting young leaders who embody Cody’s spirit of integrity and mentorship.CPT Cody Myers was a soldier, mentor, and devoted family man. He served with distinction in the U.S. Army, inspired future leaders through his work with ROTC, and always made time for the woods, the mountains, and the quiet strength of nature. Whether chasing whitetail with his father or teaching cadets with purpose and patience, Cody led by example. This race is a tribute to his impact - and a way to keep that impact growing.
Course Description
The 8.7-mile course starts and finishes at the Sons of Italy Campground in Lock Haven and now follows Scootac Road on an out-and-back route. The terrain is a mix of dirt and trail, flat and fast the whole way—built for rhythm and speed. With just under 900 feet of total gain, the course is approachable yet still offers a challenge. Runners will pass through two stocked aid stations: Savage Aid Station at roughly mile 2.25, and the Turnaround Aid Station at mile 4.25, before heading back toward the finish.Early October usually brings crisp air and peak fall colors, making this course as rewarding for the views as it is for the run itself.
Aid Stations and Support
Two aid stations - located around mile 2 and mile 5 - will be stocked with water, electrolytes, and light trail snacks. Volunteers will be out on course to help with directions and basic support. The route will be clearly marked and open to runners, hikers, and ruckers.
Runner Experience
This is a community-first trail race - timed, but low-key and welcoming. Whether you’re chasing a finish time or just out for a good day in the woods, the atmosphere is relaxed and supportive. Expect a warm vibe at the start/finish area, with family, friends, and fellow runners all there to honor Cody’s legacy. Whether you’re racing, running, or rucking, the focus is on connection, not competition
