Are you ready to launch your running to the next level in 2026? Join us for the first ever Sidewinder in Montour Woods Conservation Area, with proceeds benefiting the Hollow Oak Land Trust*. Choose
your distance: Half Marathon (hikers welcome), 20 Mile (hikers welcome), or the full 50K and expect a well-marked route, solid aid, and a welcoming first-year vibe.
Interested in volunteering at the race? Please fill out this form.
About the Course:
Typical Western PA trail conditions: twisty dirt singletrack with plenty of roots, windy switchbacks, and rocky sections that keep you on your toes. The course will consist of three parts: Liftoff, Orbit, and Final Approach.
Liftoff
Starting at Clearview Shelter in Moon Park, Liftoff is a 1.36 mile segment that will connect you from Moon Park to Montour Woods. Expect a nice flowy, downhill section connecting to a wooden boardwalk to start your race and ensure that all systems are go.
Orbit
Time to start into Orbit, consisting of a 9 mile loop around the Montour Woods Conservation Area. Orbit will take you through all the must-see sites in Montour Woods. You’ll cruise through the reclaimed concrete clearing of the old Nike missile site, pop out under the powerline, wind up and down and around the mountain, settle into a scenic stretch beside Meeks Run (with a waterfall spilling over rock ledges and a cave feature that feels like a hidden trail secret), and pass an old oil well tucked along the trail. Aid stations will be available approximately every 3-4 miles along the loop. One Orbit loop for the half marathon, two for the 20 milers, and three for those completing the 50K.
Final Approach
50K and Half Marathon: As the end of your journey draws near, you will climb into your Final Approach, a 2.87 mile, mostly double track loop around Moon Park. The loop gives you that perfect ending, knowing your journey is coming to a close and you're about to achieve your goal.
20 Mile: As the end of your journey draws near, you will climb back to the finish line, the same 1.36 segment as Liftoff but in reverse. An uphill push to the end, you'll be digging deep to finish strong and achieve your goal.
Vertical Gain per Distance:
50K: ~4500 ft
20 Mile: ~3200 ft
Half Marathon: ~1900 ft

The September 11th National Memorial Trail is honored to host its 8th annual Tour de Trail: Flight 93 National Memorial event in 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. This
commemorative bike ride travels through the scenic Laurel Highlands region of Pennsylvania, and includes a meaningful loop through the grounds of the Flight 93 National Memorial.
Please join us on Saturday, September 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm for a 24-mile ride beginning in Berlin, PA, traveling to the Flight 93 National Memorial, and back. Holding this ride on September 12 is quite significant. While September 11 is a day of remembrance and reflection, September 12 represents the day our nation came together and made the commitment to Never Forget. This ride is an opportunity to carry that spirit forward, honoring the courage and resilience that followed September 11 by moving together on the 9/11 National Memorial Trail.
In recognition of the 25th anniversary, cyclists will be welcomed at the Flight 93 National Memorial by an interpretive ranger from the National Park Service, who will present “The Story of Flight 93.” This 30-minute ranger-led program explores how Flight 93 fits into the broader events of September 11, highlighting the bravery of the passengers and crew, personal stories of courage, and the extraordinary actions taken to prevent the aircraft from reaching its intended target. The program takes place at a seated outdoor area where riders can reflect and listen.
All proceeds from the ride will support the Alliance’s efforts to create and maintain the September 11th National Memorial Trail, a 1,500-mile, multi-use trail connecting the three locations impacted by the events of 9/11. The Trail honors the victims, heroes, and first responders of September 11 while fostering remembrance, reflection, and economic development through heritage tourism in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, DC.
— SIGN UP BEFORE JULY 4 TO RECEIVE A SEPTEMBER 11TH NATIONAL MEMORIAL TRAIL 25TH ANNIVERSARY CHALLENGE COIN —
Can't join the the ride this year? Register for the virtual ride or consider making a donation to help the Alliance continue building and preserving the 9/11 National Memorial Trail for future generations.
The September 11th National Memorial Trail is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

September 13, 2025: ALLEGHENY TRAILRUNNERS INC. IS PROUD TO PRESENT THE 14TH ANNUAL ROCK ’N THE KNOB – PA’S HIGHEST RACE. BREAKING THE WILL OF ALL WHO DARE TRY…
The Ultramarathon Course (50K) begins
at 6:00am and the Medium Distance Course (20K-25K) starts at 9:00am and the Short Course (10K) starts at 10am.
The race will offer three courses: a Short Course (10K-ish), a Medium Distance Course (20K-25K) and a challenging Ultramarathon Course (50K) for the more experienced.
TAKEAWAYS:
Short Course (10K-ish): This course may be the most challenging 10K in PA* (*based on the fastest and average finish times.) The 10K features challenges like Tree-odge, Devils Hairpin, Throat Punch Hill and Soul Sucker Slopes! Two major climbs give you over 1350 feet of climbing. There is one aid station at the base of the first climb called Throat Punch Hill at 3 miles. More: http://www.alleghenytrailrunners.com/rock-n-the-knob-trail-challenge/
Medium Distance Course (20K-25K): Get ready – this race is a doozy. We took the marathon course and cutting it in half but leaving in more than half of the challenges and sufferfest. The half features some gnarly sections like Blister Blaster, Teal is Real up Deep Hollow Notch, I'll Nettle Do This Again and I Need a Sherpa! We are amending the course in 2021 to include more elevation madness with almost 3500 feet of climbing - or 7000 feet of elevation change. There are three aid stations and a six 1/2-hour time limit. Ultramarathon: For mountain-goats, this course will brake the will of many as you repeatedly attempt to ascend Blue Knob Mountain, the most northern 3,000+ foot peak in the Alleghenies. The 50K is our infamous mountain marathon “boosted” to an ultramarathon which includes all the ‘greatest hits’ of both the medium course and 10k races. We do need an estimate of the number of campers, so please note if camping for the event. Registration for camping will be at the Lodge Front Desk. Just tell them you are there for the Enduro race. The beach bath house will be open for the campers, so HOT showers will be available.
For those unfamiliar with the area, Cacapon State Park is located on US Route 522 at the Virginia-West Virginia state line. It is 30 minutes north of Winchester, Va., 15 minutes south of Berkeley Springs, WV, and 20 minutes west of Martinsburg, WV. This is an easy drive from the DMV, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and everywhere in Va and WV.
Like what you are seeing us do at Cacapon? If so, please donate through the non-profit Foundation so we can continue to develop the trail system. The park has dedicated nearly 1,000 acres to mountain biking and we are about to kick the build into high gear! We will debut the new skills park this year for everyone to enjoy with much more to come! Every dollar helps! Here's the link to make a donation: https://www.crspf.org/mountain-biking/
