traverse through the streets of Cressona to support our beloved town pool that needs $1.2 million dollars in repairs and upgrades before we can re-open it. Sundown Rundown isn’t just a race. It’s a battle against the clock.
Trail Circuit Run: 1.6-ish miles to +35.7 miles. We run until it's done!
One start. One course. A lot of shared effort.
The clock
shrinks, the laps stack up, and the group naturally reshapes itself. Between rounds, there’s time to catch your breath, share a laugh, and decide to go out one more time.
However far you make it, you’re part of the night and part of how end Summer Camp on a high note.
And when it’s all over share burgers, s'mores, stories, and celebrate the night’s together.
One winner but many memories to create. How far will you go before time runs out?

Susquehanna Warrior Trail as it runs along the west bank of the Susquehanna River in Luzerne County, PA. The out-and-back route has a total elevation gain/loss of 11 feet and 90% of the trail is shaded.
NOTE THIS IS OUR LARGEST SHIMMY YET, SO WE HAVE DECIDED TO SEPARATE THE START OF EACH EVENT. THE HALF WILL BEGIN AT 8:00AM, THE QUARTER WILL BEGIN AT 8:15AM.
When
Saturday August 8th.
Half Marathon: 8:00 am.
Quarter Marathon: 8:15 am.

A portion of the proceeds and 100% of all donations will go to support the Susquehanna Warrior Trail. For more information, check out their website HERE.

Q: Is there a cutoff time for the half?
A: Yes! Due to the heat, we ask runners to finish in 3:00. There is a hard cutoff of 3:15. Those who may run longer than 3:00 are encouraged to run the quarter marathon.
Q: What is the course surface like?
A: The out-and-back course on The Susquehanna Warrior Trail is flat hard-packed dirt and gravel. 90% is shaded.
Q: Are dogs allowed on the course?
A: Yes, dogs are allowed on the course. However, due to safety and insurance reasons, we discourage participants from running with their dogs. The race is on a public trail that allows dogs, so we do not ban dogs from the race. We ask that if you choose to run with your dog, you only do so if your dog has extensive experience running in groups and with strangers. According to PA state law, all dogs, whether running or spectating or just meandering through on a Saturday walk, MUST be leashed while on public property.
Q: Are strollers allowed on the course?
A: No. The trail is not well-suited for strollers.
Q: Can I see a map of the half course?
A: Yes! (And the quarter marathon is the first half the half). FOLLOW THIS LINK HERE.

The Hellbender is back for 2026! This is a great course for both road or trail runners. Fast, flat, out and back along the scenic lakes and beautiful Weiser State Forest. Falcon Race Timing has
teamed up with the RCVCA to help promote clean water in the state forest and surrounding Roaring Creek Watershed. Proceeds with help benefit RCVCA.
Registration – 7am
Half Marathon Start – 8:00am
5k Start – 8:30am
Packet Pickup: Race morning starting at 7am.
Race course will close at Noon.
Race shirts, finisher medals and a post-race meal is included in the entry fee for all participants.
Where:
Route 54 Parking Area (Located on PA RT 54 between Mount Carmel and Elysburg)
Weiser State Forest
Roaring Creek Tract
Bear Gap, PA 17824
The race can only be accessed on the Route 54 side of the park. The entrance is 3.5 miles west of the intersection of Route 54 and 61. 4.3 miles east of the intersection on Route 54 with Route 487. (Lat 40.8213, Long -76.4922).
The race gets its name from the species of aquatic salamander known as the hellbender, which are native to the hills and mountains of the eastern U.S., and can grow to as much as two feet long. Because they breathe through their skin, they require healthy, pristine, unpolluted streams and creeks to survive. Due to development and urbanization over recent decades, however, many of their habitats have become fouled and their numbers have drastically declined — they’re just one of the many species the race organizers hope to benefit over the long term with their efforts here.
Both the 5K and the half marathon races follow out-and-back courses that start and finish at the Route 54 parking area in Bear Gap, which lies between the two small towns of Elysburg and and Mount Carmel. From there, runners make their way along the roads that wind along the reservoir lakes inside this 9,000-acre park, one of 16 tracts that make up the Weiser State Forest in what is known as the ridge and valley region of eastern Pennsylvania.
The course for the half marathon is mostly fast and flat through the Roaring Creek Tract, and takes runners both along the shores of the lakes inside the park.
