International Hallers' Run
The International Hallers' Run stands as a powerful symbol of the enduring connection between Poland and Canada—rooted in shared history, mutual respect, and the vibrant
presence of the Polish community in Canada. This commemorative event honors the lasting Polish-Canadian friendship and pays tribute to the remarkable contributions and sacrifices made by both nations, especially through the legacy of General Józef Haller and the Blue Army.
General Haller holds a prominent place in Polish military history, exemplifying leadership, determination, and international cooperation. As the commander of the Blue Army—composed largely of volunteers from North America—he showcased the vital support Poland received during its fight for independence in the early 20th century. The journey of over 22,000 soldiers from training camps in Canada to the battlefields of Europe under Haller’s leadership remains a striking testament to bravery, unity, and strategic success.
His legacy extends beyond military achievements, encompassing civic activism, scouting, and nation-building efforts—reflecting a spirit of resilience and solidarity that continues to inspire. The International Hallers' Run, held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Poland and the Minister of National Defence of Canada, reflects the strong transatlantic bond between the two countries.
On each side of the Atlantic, this meaningful event takes place in historically significant locations: Niagara-on-the-Lake in Canada, the point of departure for Haller’s troops, and Jurczyce in Poland—the birthplace of General Haller himself. These parallel commemorations highlight the shared values of sacrifice, cooperation, and enduring friendship.
More than just a sporting event, the International Hallers' Run is a tribute to a common history, a celebration of alliance, and a recognition of the Polish diaspora’s vital role in Canada’s multicultural identity. By honoring General Józef Haller and the Blue Army, the event fosters greater awareness of the rich cultural and historical ties that continue to unite Poland and Canada.

The Buffalo Bicycling Club is excited to host the New York State Team Time Trial Championships on Grand Island. This is a separate event on the state championship schedule from the Individual TT. The
Buffalo Bicycling Club is using a long-time local favorite loop where we host our club TTT event and the event is in memory of the Buffalo Bicycling Club's legendary time trial specialist, Glenn Hansen, who passed away from cancer in 2009.
This event is open to anyone as the Grand Island Team Time Trial in Memory of Glenn Hansen while also being the NY State TTT Championship for NY State residents.
We also have “cannibal” events and individual time trial events that are not part of the state championship titles.
In this event, teams of 3 or 4 riders start individually in two-minute intervals for a 20.5-mile loop against the clock. Your team's time is taken off of the third rider across the line, so work together to get three riders across the line together!
State Championship Categories:
o Any combination of men and women of any USAC Category, including one-day licenses. This category is for those who are Cat 1/2/3, fast triathletes who don't otherwise have a USAC license, Cat 4's who have teammates who are in upper categories.
o Women of any USAC category, including one-day licenses. Same as above
o Any combination of men and women who are Category 4 or Novice USAC licenses, including one-day licenses. Also good for those new to road racing or triathletes without a USA Cycling road license
o Women who are Category 4 or Novice USAC licenses, including one-day licenses. Also good for those new to road racing or triathletes without a USA Cycling road license
o Any combination of men and women, where men must be age 45+. In accordance with USAC rule 1H10(h), women who are Cat 1/2 can enter if they are age 35+, and women who are Cat 3/4 can enter if they are 25+. Any USAC race category is allowed, including one-day licenses.
o Women who are age 45+ of any USAC race category, including one-day licenses.
As part of the Buffalo Bicycling Club's commitment to grow women's cycling, all women's fields at our USAC sanctioned events are free of charge!
Juniors also race free! Any junior looking to do a categorized race can use the discount code BBC-juniors at checkout
Teams:
The minimum team size is 3, the maximum team size is 4. Teams start at two-minute intervals for the race against the clock around Grand Island. Your team's final time is taken off of the third rider, so ride as cooperatively as possible to ensure that 3 of your teammates make it together to the finish!
At least 3 riders on each team must be NY State residents in order to qualify for the NY State TTT Championship title (up to 1 rider on a 4-person team can be an out-of-state resident to qualify)
Team members will register individually on Bikereg. Please make sure all team members use the same team name on Bikereg. If a team is large enough that they can field two or more separate teams in the same category, please denote which riders are on which TTT team using designations A, B, C, 1, 2, 3 or some other designation.
Composite teams are allowed, so if you don't have a "trade team", get your friends together and sign up using the same team name on Bikereg to compete!
Bikes:
All State TTT categories are open to time trial, triathlon, and road bikes. TT bikes, aero bars, teardrop helmets, skinsuits, and solid disc wheels are allowed in every category. Note that UCI TT bike rules do not apply to this event, so feel free to use your triathlon bike that may otherwise be considered “UCI-illegal.” Put some aero bars on your road bike for that extra speed if you don't have a TT bike! There is no separate “cannibal” road category for the championship titles in agreement with NYSBRA.
We will offer an Open Men and Open Women category for road bikes only “cannibal” style. These are not state TTT championship events. For these categories, only mass-start legal road bikes allowed- road drop bars, no aero bars, no solid disc wheels.
Start Times:
The first event, the Women Cat 4/Novice will start at 9:45am, with each team going off at two-minute intervals. The following category will start five minutes after the previous category finishes. Exact start times will be emailed to all of the registered teams after registration closes. For the final category of the Elite Women, expect an approximate start time of approximately 11:00am at the latest.
The non-state championship events (cannibal team and all individual events) will start after the state championship events, with an approximate start time of 11:15am depending on total event registration. Individual events will start in one-minute intervals.
NON State Championship Events:
We will be offering a “Cannibal” event for open men and open women that is not part of the NY State Team Time Trial Championship race. Teams of 3 or 4 on mass-start legal road bikes will compete. Time is taken off of the third rider. A mass-start legal road bike is a standard road bike with drop handlebars, wheels with a minimum of 12 spokes of any depth, road or aero helmet of any type, no aero bars, and no solid disc wheels-- exactly how you'd show up to a road race
We will also offer Individual Time Trial categories by age group! All TT and triathlon bikes allowed for the solo race against the clock.
Want to sign up for a state TTT race first and an individual TT race after? We can modify your ITT start time to make it happen!
NOTE: This event is PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY. Refunds will be honored if if the request is made prior to registration closing. If you don't have a USA Cycling license, no problem! Because time trials have different USAC regulations than road races, all fields are eligible to purchase a One-Day USAC license during the checkout process. If you have previously held a USAC license as a Cat 3 or higher, you can purchase an Experienced One-Day license at checkout.
Course:
This event will be one lap of the perimeter of Grand Island, NY, a 20.5-mile continuous loop. This course has been used for many years for the Buffalo Bicycling Club's local TTT events. It is a flat loop around Grand Island with only one straight-through intersection and two turns. Suburban environment with low traffic.
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49234899
https://www.strava.com/segments/4990223
Start line is on West River and Long Road. The exact start line will be on West River Road but note that we will be staging on the adjacent bike path to keep away from regular traffic flow
You may do your on-road warmups on the bike path as well. It is very wide and is closed to traffic. Please watch out for pedestrians.

Finish line
Venue:
We will be parking at GP50 at 2770 Long Road, Grand Island, NY 14072. Podiums will also take place there. If you are travelling to the event, book your accommodations right at the start venue!
It is a short 0.25 miles from GP50 to the start/finish line on West River Road. Please do not drive there or park your car on West River.
Medals and Awards:
Awards will take place at GP50 in the parking lot after the completion of all events (approximate time around 1:00-1:30pm). Prizes and swag for the top 3 teams in each category from the Buffalo Bicycling Club sponsors, including Kanberra Gel, Bert's Bikes & Fitness, Campus Wheelworks, Handlebars Cycle Company, Love & Sprockets, Shickluna Bikes, and Tom's Pro Bike Shop.
NY State Championship Jerseys for the top NY State team in each state championship category!
o Winning teams will be given codes to purchase and order jerseys or skinsuits after the event
Is this your first race? Welcome! Here are some things to expect:
During sign-up, if you don't already have an annual USAC racing license, you'll need to purchase a one-day license here on Bikereg during the ordering process. Canadians require an international UCI license to compete in USA Cycling events or a 1-day license if competing in novice categories.
Please plan to arrive 60 minutes early on race day to get into your riding clothes and get your bike ready
Head over to the registration tent to get your race number and pin it on your jersey according to the instructions,
head out on the bike get a few pedal strokes in the legs to warm up
Line up at the start line on Long Road and West River at least 5 minutes before your team/personal start time. If you are late, the clock starts on your start time whether you are there or not!!
After your race, head back to the parking lot to check on the results. You have a 15-minute protest period until results are official. Follow the instructions of the chief referee. Podiums and awards will be given out after the completion of all events in the afternoon.
