Since 2015, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Tower Climb NYC has been held at One World Observatory, One World Trade Center in New York City. 1,250 participants climb 104 stories, symbolizing
strength, hope, and the resiliency of the American spirit.
The event celebrates the life and sacrifice of all 9/11 heroes, including FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller and FDNY Captain Billy Burke.
On September 11, 2001, Stephen Siller, a FDNY firefighter assigned to Brooklyn’s Squad 1, had just finished his shift and was on his way to play golf with his brothers. He suddenly got word over his scanner that an airplane had hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Stephen drove his truck to the entrance of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, strapped 60 lbs. of gear to his back, and raced on foot through the tunnel to the Twin Towers. There, he gave up his life while saving others.
Captain William F. Burke, Jr. and his men were on the 27th floor of the North Tower when the South Tower collapsed. Billy immediately alerted the Captain of Ladder Co. 6 and the Officer of Ladder Co. 24, his original company, of the collapse. They, along with their men, immediately evacuated along with a number of civilians they were assisting, and survived. Minutes later, the North Tower collapsed, and Billy perished along with the other innocents on September 11, 2001. He selflessly repeated, “Keep going, I’m right behind you,” to keep his men moving to safety.
The view from One World Observatory at the top of One World Trade Center is nothing short of spectacular. After making the emotional climb, participants can explore expansive, panoramic views in every direction, including the two reflecting pools that mark the footprints of where the Twin Towers once stood.

About:
Queer NEPA is an LGBTQIA+ organization dedicated to culture, community, and justice. Queer NEPA blossomed out of the 2018 Pride Series, of the same name, organized by queer, transgender Muslim activist Emma Maloney (She/They Pronouns). A highlight of our 2018 Pride Series was the first Pride flag raising in the city of Scranton. On Pulse Remembrance Day, June 12th, 2018, Queer NEPA officially declared its founding as an organization dedicated to nonviolent advocacy and advancing the cause of LGBTQ+ rights in Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA).
Queer NEPA’s platform is rooted in equality and community building. From Pulse to Stonewall, the queer community has a history rooted in resilience and bonded by love. Understanding the past helps us navigate present-day, as well as create a better tomorrow. Queer NEPA is dedicated to a campaign of nonviolent activism for peace and LGBTQ rights in both Luzerne and Lackawanna counties of NEPA. We also believe in gender equity, reproductive justice, and the abolition of poverty. Through volunteerism, advocacy, & coalition building, we hope to see a society free of the systems of hate, violence, & oppression that have afflicted NEPA & the rest of the world. We also look to evoke change through the power of the arts by speaking truth to power & uplifting local LGBTQ creatives.
Overall, Queer NEPA seeks to create a space where people can be unapologetically themselves, as well as raise up a diverse community that uplifts marginalized peoples.

Moosic Borough is thrilled to announce the second annual Move with Moosic 5k Run/Walk is scheduled for June 7, 2026 with a 9AM start time. The race will begin at the Moosic Youth Center, wind down
Main Street and Minooka Avenue to Felter Field, pass by the Moosic High Alumni Memorial and Edmond Piaski Park on Elm Street, travel up Spring Street to Mary Ann Nawrocki Park, and loop back around to end with a celebration back at the Moosic Youth Center. New this year we have added a 1/4 mile kids fun run. Children ages 10 and under are welcomed to sign up for this free event which will follow the 5k.
This years event will kick off the summer in our community and all proceeds will be used to reimagine and rejuvenate our green spaces in Moosic Borough. Last year, our community came together and raised an extraordinary $45,000—and those dollars have already made a visible, lasting impact across our parks and green spaces. As we prioritize public safety, maintaining and updating our infrastructure, and ensuring our roads are clear and our garbage is picked up, the Move with Moosic 5K Run/Walk serves as a reminder to take care of our parks too.
Because of your support, more than $30,000 will be invested this April to update Edmond Piaski Park, breathing new life into a small but treasured neighborhood space in our community. We also resurfaced the basketball court at Smerdon Park, with hoop rehabilitation planned for this spring. At the Moosic Youth Center, we replaced the aging side door to improve safety and accessibility. Funds raised through the 5K also allowed us to purchase mulch for the Moosic Red Wings playground and upgrade the security cameras at Mercatili Segilia Park, strengthening safety for all who visit. In addition, through Bank of America employee volunteer grants, we supported the Moosic Little League in rehabilitating their picnic tables. These improvements are only the beginning. We are meeting with our grant‐writing partners and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to pursue a comprehensive park planning grant. Funds raised in 2026 will directly support this effort and help meet
any required matching contributions—positioning Moosic to secure significant outside funding for long‐term park revitalization.
We are blessed with numerous recreational spaces for both our residents and beyond to enjoy. Some are updated and well-loved, while others desperately need our help. By participating in our 5k as a runner, walker, sponsor, or volunteer, you will have a positive impact on our hometown. And we would be so grateful for your support in whatever capacity you are able to give back.
