HedgeFondo
A premium cycling event rooted in the Litchfield Hills, designed with the care of a world-class riding experience.
Hedgefondo is a thoughtfully produced cycling event built to showcase the
Litchfield Hills as one of the Northeast’s premier road and gravel riding destinations, with easy access from New York and Boston. What began as a small, private ride among investment bankers—hence the name Hedgefondo—quickly grew by word of mouth to more than 250 participants in its first public year, with over 500 riders expected this season from the New York, Connecticut, and Boston regions. Based at Rifugio, a premier active hospitality hub in the Litchfield Hills, the event pairs curated routes with elevated pre- and post-ride hospitality, creating a true basecamp for the day. Hedgefondo is coordinated and spearheaded by KC&E Adventures, a team with over a decade of experience designing premium cycling experiences around the world and featured in Forbes, Men’s Journal, Cycling Magazine, Yankee, and Bicycling.
Event Website
Route Options & Descriptions
Hedgefondo offers two route tiers—Adventure and Endurance—each available in road and gravel formats and supported by an on-course aid station.
Adventure Distance

Gravel: ~30 miles
A mixed-surface route highlighting the Litchfield Hills’ network of quiet dirt and gravel roads. This ride weaves through rural landscapes, wooded backroads, and hidden corners of the region, including sections near White Memorial Preserve, showcasing the area’s natural beauty and sense of exploration.
Endurance Distance
Road: ~70 miles
An expansive road route designed to showcase the depth and variety of riding in the Litchfield Hills. The course links together rolling hills, longer climbs, and extended stretches of quiet pavement, passing lakes, farms, and stone-lined roads that reflect the region’s historic and pastoral landscape.
Gravel: ~53 miles
A full-distance gravel route that dives deep into the region’s most remote and scenic terrain. This year Keystone Bicycle Co. is teaming up with RAR Philadelphia to put on Swift Campout! We will be leaving Philadelphia on Saturday June 20th to camp at Evansburg State Park and returning to the
city on Sunday the 21st. The ride is about 37mi from Philadelphia, primarily on paved and crushed gravel trails.
There will be an option to ride with a group from Philly (more info to come), or you are welcome to get yourself there and meet us at Evansburg. Either way, you MUST register to join so we have a proper count for the amount of people staying at the campsite. This ride is open to all folks!
Please note: THIS RIDE IS UNSUPPORTED! Riders are expected to bring their own camp gear, food, bike tools, and to be able to navigate to and from the campsite in case the group gets separated. There will be volunteers available to help lead the group and help with minor repairs when possible, but please plan to be self sufficient in case there is not a volunteer available to help. All proceeds from registration go towards RAR Philadelphia to help support this and future events.

Some historic sites along the rides will include the Portland Reservoir and Meshomasic Forest. In the late 19th century and again in the 1940s two quarries in the Meshomasic State Forest were quarried for feldspar and mica. The quarries are still open to the public and rock collectors to explore. From the early 1950s to 1970s Nike Missile Site HA-36 was located off of North Mulford Road in the Meshomasic State Forest. It was one of over 300 missile-defense sites around major cities during the Cold War. Nike Ajax anti-aircraft missiles were located at HA-36 to protect Hartford's aircraft industry from Soviet bombers. There are eight miles of dirt roads, originally built by the CCC, open for seasonal driving in the forest. Hunting, mountain biking, off roading, and hiking are some other activities available in the forest.
Other sites along the road rides include the Arrigoni Bridge which connects Middletown and Portland and Brownstone Adventure Sports Park on the right, which used to supply quality brownstone from New York and Boston to San Francisco, and employed over 1,500 people during the 1850's. More than 25 ships transported the stone to major population centers in the United States, Canada and even England. The brownstone quarries in Portland, Connecticut, owe their existence to millions of years of prehistoric sediments accumulating in the Connecticut River. Quarried as far back as the 17th century, the brownstone around Portland proved soft enough to allow for carving and polishing, making it one of the most desirable materials for gravestone markers and building construction for nearly three centuries. Portland’s location along the Connecticut River allowed for easy transport throughout the state and, later, the world.

Welcome! I’m your Race Director, Tom Wilkas. We are pleased to bring you both the original Pat Griskus Sprint Triathlon, which started in 1987, and the Olympic distance race, which was conceived in
Key folks include: Dave Heller, Robin Griskus, Laura Griskus, Marty Cashin, Mike Maximenko, Dave Kunces, Kim Tessier, Jeff Sheldon, Tom Hill, Jim O’Rourke, Chris Hibbs, Sandra Heller, Kristin Heller, Meghan Curley, Tim Cipriano, Tim Ruh, Karen Mcwhirt, Rob Scott, Eric Pattison and Others. Pat Griskus was an amazing guy and credited with paving the way for the many amputee athletes to follow.
Both races are USAT Sanctioned and are held at Quassy Amusement Park on Route 64 in Middlebury, CT. The Sprint distance starts with a half-mile swim in spring-fed Lake Quassapaug, enjoy the challenging 10.5 mile bike around the lake, and the out-and-back 3.1 mile run. There is a First Timers division for those tackling their first Triathlon ever, with medals for all first time finishers. With close to 100 first-timers each year, this race has become a favorite for first time triathletes!
The Olympic distance race features a clean and clear one mile lake swim in Lake Quassapaug, enjoy a 25 mile challenging one loop bike course through classic New England farm country, and a 6.2 mile run on shaded back roads.
