On
Saturday, June 20, 2026, Class 69 of the New Jersey Army National Guard Officer Candidate School (NJOCS) in Sea Girt, NJ will host the 22nd Annual Sergeant Nutter 5K Run.
This event is organized by the SGT Sam Nutter Organization Inc (SSNO) in memory of the late SGT Samuel Nutter, to benefit the family of a NJ National Guard service member. We are asking for your help in aiding our Soldiers and their families in their time of need. This year's Beneficiary will be Specialist Gregory Mitchell, who was involved in a severe car accident in August of 2025 that resulted in multiple brain bleeds and a traumatic brain injury (TBI). All proceeds, sponsorships, and donations will directly support his continued recovery.
The 5K race will take place at the Army National Guard Training Center in Sea Girt, New Jersey. This year we are adding Youth run/walk 200 meter for kids ages 6 to 9 and 1/2 mile (800 meters) for ages 10 to 13. We will also be hosting a virtual run to allow all who wish to participate the opportunity to do so! On behalf of the Sergeant Samuel Nutter Organization, we encourage your support and thank you for being an invaluable part of this cause. You can support this cause by running in the race, donating, or becoming an event sponsor. Whichever you choose to do, know that you will be honoring the legacy of SGT Nutter during this year's 22nd annual 5K run. Sun, Jun 21, 2026 at 8:30 AM
It Takes A Borough (ITAB) is honored to host the annual FUCE 5K Family Fun Run/Walk in Mike Fuccile’s memory. On September 4, 2008, Mike Fuccile was murdered on his way to work in Jersey City where
he served as a chief compliance officer for Merrill Lynch. Mike left behind his wife of ten years, Nancy, and their three children; Michael, Jack and Brooke. In 2009, The Fucille Foundation was established to help local families impacted by tragedy and it continued to do so until the end of 2023 when it passed its torch to ITAB. ITAB, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to encouraging community solidarity, relies on financial contributions and tangible donations to create meaningful, positive impacts on members of its community affected by tragedy or unforeseen circumstances.
The tradition continues this year in dowtown Metuchen! For a preview of the certified course, please visit ittakesaborough.com.
Join us on Father's Day, June 21st at 8:30 AM to participate in this community event.
You have the option of an officially timed 5K race (a bib with a timing chip), an untimed 5k run/walk or a virtual run/walk. If you are NOT interested in your timed results and are attending the event in person, please choose the 5k run/walk. This option provides more funds to the organization as the cost for untimed bibs are slightly less. We are unable to provide an officially timed event for virtual participants, but you can still submit your results.
Virtual 5K - You may choose to participate virtually in the FUCE 5K by requesting this option. ITAB will provide a race day material pickup option for you.
5K Electronically Timed Run - This 5K run will begin at 8:30am. It is a multi-surface 5K route that begins and ends in downtown Metuchen. You may choose to switch events at any time after registering.
5K Fun Run/Walk - The Fun Run/Walk will also begin at 8:30 and follow the same route as the 5K Timed Run. However, this option will not be timed. You may choose to switch events at any time after registering and before 8:00am on race day.
If you chose to participate as a Family Supporter, formerly Family/Family Plus Sponsorship, individual members can participate in any option. We ask that if none of the members of your family wish to be timed or you will not be joining us for the event, that you choose the "Family Supporter - No Timed Runners" option. This will allow for more of your contribution to go directly to families in need.
All participants will receive a race day numbered bib. Registrations received by 11:59 PM on 5/15 will receive a T-Shirt. Registrations after 5/15 are not guaranteed a t-shirt.

They represent different architecture styles found throughout Middlesex County’s Raritan Valley. The Village’s founder, Dr. Joseph Kler, and a group of local residents saved most of the buildings from demolition and transported them to the Village where they were reassembled and restored to reflect how they would have looked way back when. Join us for a run that will take you on a tour of the park.

THE STORY BEHIND THE BIG BANG MILE
The Bell Works building was once a primary location for Bell Laboratories. “Bell Labs” attracted top-notch scientists to conduct basic research that might advance telephony. Two such scientists, Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, studied radio signals from space in support of the Telstar project. In 1964, to their surprise, they observed a background noise coming from every direction in the sky. Wherever they pointed their radio telescope, they measured the same frequency and strength of microwave radiation. Puzzled, Penzias and Wilson conferred with colleagues. Princeton University astronomer Robert Dicke revealed they had found evidence for the Big Bang. This is a theory that the universe started with an explosion 13.8 billion years ago. For their important contribution to science, Penzias and Wilson were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1978.
The radio telescope used by Penzias and Wilson still stands today. It is located on top of Crawford Hill, about 2 miles northwest of the Bell Works facility. A nearby plaque explains its significance. It is worth a visit. In fact, Holmdel Township has purchased the 30 acres that surround the antenna and will convert it into Dr. Robert Wilson Park.
The Shore Athletic Club, New Jersey's oldest running club, dedicates the Big Bang Mile Race to scientists everywhere. We hope that runners draw inspiration from this story to learn more about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and perhaps even pursue a STEM career. Aim high!
