RUN FOR DAD is the American Cancer Society’s premier community event to raise funds and build awareness about prostate cancer. Now in its 22nd year, RUN FOR DAD, is changing it's date! Usually taking place every Father’s Day, we have decided to move to September which is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Join us on September 26, 2026 as this event honors the memory of Frank Simms, event co-founder and all those who lost their battle with prostate cancer.
Over 1,000 people attend this family fun event which consists of a 5K Run and 2-mile walk. Small children are invited to take part in the Kids Run For Dad, a series of small races where they are all winners.
In 2023, approximately 228,800 men in the US were diagnosed with prostate cancer and over 27,500 died from the disease. About one man in seven will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. New Jersey has the third highest incidence per capita of prostate cancer in the US. Even worse, in African American men, the incidence is roughly 60% higher than those of white or Asian men. There is good news however. The 5-year survival rate for men whose prostate cancer is detected early is nearly 100% and 93% of men diagnosed with prostate cancer will live 10 years or more. Education, awareness and personal action are saving lives and finding a cure.
The Race to Cure Sarcoma (RTCS) New Jersey brings together hundreds of members of the community who have been impacted by this disease. Each year, the Sarcoma Foundation of America raises awareness and funds for much-needed research, through RTCS events across the country. JOIN US for our annual event in New Jersey!
TOGETHER WE CAN FIND A CURE.

Costumes are encouraged! Gather with us afterward for a quick celebration and official awards presentation to recognize the outstanding efforts of our participants and teams.

Extending our course to utilize a portion of the Warren County Technical School and Warren County property nearby, one loop is exactly 2.5km. Runners will complete the loop twice and follow the alternative finish path. CLICK HERE to see the map of the course with details.
About the Event
The inaugural event, called the Sterbenz Run for Abilities, was created by Paul and James Sterbenz in 2020 as a response to the COVID pandemic and a desire to replace cancelled running events while raising needed funds for Abilities of Northwest Jersey Inc. Completing the 27 mile “marathon” from Alexandria Township to Lambertville, NJ on a sultry June morning, Paul and James crossed the finish line and successfully raised nearly $12,000! The Sterbenz Miles of Smiles was created in 2022 and expanded to include participants of all abilities- runners, walkers, rollers, strollers and even those with four legs!

Welcome to the Kingwood Ultras Kingwood Ultras turns a short loop into a full-on trail adventure. Instead of disappearing deep into the mountains, you stay connected to the heart of the event: a two-mile circuit where woods, fields, wooden bridges, and cool stream crossings keep each lap scenic while Base Camp is never far away. That is the real draw here. The course is built for runners who want the challenge of ultra distances without the stress of being far from their gear, crew, food, or shelter. Every loop brings you back to your own camp setup, the main aid station, and a race atmosphere that feels equal parts endurance event and weekend trail retreat.Who this race is for? This race is a strong fit for runners who like the idea of a simple, repeatable course and an all-day trail camp atmosphere instead of remote point-to-point logistics. Newer trail runners should expect roots, rocks, small stream crossings, and steady climbing, but they will also get the comfort of returning to the
same fully stocked base camp every two miles. Course Description The course is a two-mile loop at Horseshoe Bend Park, about three miles from Frenchtown, New Jersey. It winds through forest and open field, crosses small streams, and includes quaint wooden bridges that give the route a distinctive, memorable feel.Underfoot, runners should expect a quasi-technical trail with roots and rocks that reward attention and make trail shoes the smart choice. The short-loop format keeps things approachable, but it is not flat or effortless: each lap includes about 300 feet of elevation gain, which adds up quickly over longer distances and timed efforts. That climbing is part of the race’s personality. On paper, it is “just” a two-mile loop; in practice, it becomes a surprisingly honest test of pacing, durability, and mental focus. The repeated return to familiar terrain can help newer runners settle in, while experienced runners can use the loop to manage effort, fueling, and rest with precision. At
night, the course remains clearly marked with glow sticks and reflective ribbons, and mileage markers appear every quarter mile. That setup makes the route feel more manageable for overnight runners, especially those trying a first long timed event or first 100-mile effort. Aid Stations & Support Kingwood keeps support simple: one central Base Camp aid station that runners see every two miles. That means less guesswork about when your next refill is coming and more opportunities to adjust layers, charge devices, grab food, or reset mentally before heading back out.The aid station goes well beyond basic fuel. In addition to standard ultra fare like fruit, cookies, candy, chips, PB&J, potatoes, water, sports drink, and soda, runners can expect gourmet breakfast, lunch, and dinner service throughout the weekend. Each runner also gets a 10' x 10' Base Camp space right along the course, with nearby parking and access to porta-potties; limited indoor-style sleeping cots are available first come,
first served for overnight rest. Runner Experience This race leans hard into the “camp ultra” vibe. You are not just showing up to run; you are moving into a temporary trail village where runners, crews, family, and staff share the same central hub. That creates a more social, less isolated experience than many ultras, especially for first-timers who want the reassurance of seeing people, supplies, and familiar faces every lap.The handcrafted awards reinforce that local, personal feel. Finishers receive one-of-a-kind wood-based awards made from species found on the course, and longer-distance milestone finishers can earn handcrafted buckles using reclaimed wood from the race setting itself. It is a detail that makes the event feel rooted in place rather than generic. Practical Details Camping opens Thursday at 4:00 PM.Check-in and bib pickup begins 2 hours before each race start.48 Hour Race Start: Friday at 12:00 PM.100 Mile Race Start: Friday at 12:00 PM. 100 Mile cutoff: Sunday at 12:00

Awards All Kingwood Ultra race finishers will receive one of a kind hand made finishers awards which encoperates various species of wood from the actual race course. 100 Mile, 100 Mile+ and 150 Mile+ finishers will each receive handcrafted belt buckles also utilizing wood reclaimed from the race course. A portion of race registration fees will go towards supporting these good folks and the work they do.. About Spirit Trips Spirit Trips puts races in places worth going. This is due to the never ending repairs taking place at certain places along the towpath. Regardless, the amazing views and super easy non technical nature of the tow path remains. That said, we are tentatively planning on running the race on the Pa side of the river this year. The alternative course will be a hybrid of NJ and Pa towpaths like previous years races. Great first easy trail marathon or ultra marathon with generous cutoffs, well stocked aid stations and amazing views during the entire run. The Half Marathon distance will be back for 2026 as well!! In honor of the Boys & Girls Club Day for Kids, our 6th annual 5K to Wellness is scheduled for Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center in Branch Brook Park, Newark, NJ.
The Boys & Girls Club of Newark (BGCN) is an after-school program in Newark. We are more than an after-school program. We believe in supporting children from a holistic approach. On-site at the Boys & Girls Club of Newark, we have a pediatric dental center that provides no cost to low-cost dental services to children in the community, food distributions, vision care, and social and emotional support to children who attend the program.
Our first 5K fundraiser in 2021, spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic that illuminated more access to care, allowed us to hire an additional wellness support staff to expand our wellness program. In addition, last year’s event catalyzed us to launch our mental and behavioral health clinic in October 2022. With your participation, we can expand our mental and behavioral service to our members and the greater Newark community by hiring additional licensed mental health practitioners. Additionally, your support will provide families access to nutrition education, case management to address immediate daily needs and dental and vision care. BGCN requests your support to make our 5th annual 5K to Wellness a success!
When you race with us, you will get cool stuff, too! You will receive a t-shirt and a 5K run/walk finisher medal. The race will take place on a USATF-certified course and is sanctioned.
Age Group Awards (M&F Overall Top 3, 15 & under, 16 -19, 20 - 29, 30 - 39, 40 - 49, 50 - 59, 60 - 69, 70+ )
Join us, as we would love to take a 5K run/walk to Wellness with you!
