FAQ
I'm not sure what my FTP is or which wave to register for? Don't stress it! The waves are just to get groups of riders with similar ability the chance to challenge themselves against each other. Just pick one you think is about right. You can always go in and edit your wave later in Bikereg if you change your mind.
I'm not super interested in head to head, I just want to race against the clock? No problem! We will still have official timing so you can see your official time and how to you stack up against your age group and/or your previous best.
I'm only a Cat 4 but I smash up hills and want to race in Wave A against the heavy hitters? Go for it! The USAC categories are listed as a guide just to help you find the right level of competition, there are no official Cat restrictions.
What happens if I decide to change my Wave? You can change your category after registering in Bikereg up until registration closes.
RACE DAY SCHEDULE
Number pick-up open from 8:45 AM until 10 AM.
Course is open to riders from 8:45 - 10:15 AM on race day.
Drop bags (with clothes, etc.) can be left at the registration table before 10:10 AM to be transported to the finish line.
Snacks and hydration (water and Gatorade) will be provided at the finish.
The course will close to all traffic promptly at 10:15am
No riders or vehicles will be allowed back down the course until the last rider has finished.
First wave starts at 10:30 AM.
Awards ceremony will take place at the summit after last racer finishes and results are tallied
Going back down:
Racers need to arrange their own car rides down from the top of the mountain or ride down.
Limited parking at the finish line (top of the mountain). Carpooling is strongly encouraged for those who want to drive down.
You may bicycle down after the race. Use caution when descending, there are some frost heaves.
Stop frequently to let your brakes and rims cool! Be especially careful if you have carbon rims. Letting a little air out if your tires before starting the ride down the mountain is recommended.
WEATHER
If it does happen to rain the race will go on, an extra challenge!
If conditions are severe (driving rain, high winds, lightning) we will postpone the start for as long as our vendors can accommodate. We will only cancel the race if the conditions refuse to improve and make the course unsafe to ride.
In a worst case scenario where we have to cancel we can all head over to Harpoon brewery and commiserate. We have created a virtual route that mimics the course and will schedule a date for a virtual race if needed!
All proceeds are going to the Ascutney Trails Association non-profit, so in the end its all for a great cause.

DIRTY PIZZA WEEKEND 2026
[dp2319 2.JPG]
On tap is a full weekend of food, bikes and camaraderie that you'll not soon forget.
We've pulled the best bits of local riding together into these loops and
we can't wait to share them with you. The routes feature panoramic views across the river valley into Vermont, quiet rolling gravel roads, no shortage of leg busting climbs and honestly, some of the best riding anywhere in the surrounding three states.
Saturday:
Shake out ride.
Swim in the lake.
Wood fired feast at the pavilion
Camping on site.
Sunday:
Complementary fresh baked goods and coffee.
FOUR routes to choose from.
“The Good” If you love the original Dirty Pizza route, +/- 40 miles, +/- 4500' elevation, this route is the one for you.
“The Bad” If you've been riding gravel events for awhile, finished last year's ride and were up for more, “The bad” is a tough 55 miles with 6,000' elevation, should be enough to have most riders seeing cross eyed and wishing they'd opted for a shorter route.
“The ugly” This 70 mile loop with 8,000' of elevation monster…. is savage. It will also be restricted to a field of 30 riders, and will have a time cut off at the first time through the feed zone.
"Type 1 fun" A mostly paved ride with a few miles of maintained gravel road. 24 miles, 2,500" elevation. Suitable for a confident rider on 30mm tires.
A staffed feed stop for all three ride options. This stop will be stocked with water, fruit, and the famous Orchard Hill Breadworks cookies!
Post ride pizza and dessert for all riders. (Eat up, we're not counting how many slices you take)
Want to bring the family and enjoy an early fall day with bikes and wood fired pizza? Sign up for “Just pizza” and we'll gladly share some family friendly shorter loops suitable for all ability levels.
The Courses are SELF NAVIGATED. We like arrows, but we share these roads and trails with a wide variety of users. It has become apparent that not all non-bikers share that like! Conclusion: no arrows are better than wrong arrows! The GPS track and cue sheets will be emailed a day or two before the event as well.
Everyone riding the Dirty Pizza is strongly encouraged to ride with a navigation device (links shared 3 days prior to event). Cue sheets will also be available.
To some, the most important feature of the day is the Post Ride Feed where you will be treated to Noah's wood oven fired pizza feast back at the Orchard Hill Pavillion.
WHAT TO BRING…
Good, Bad and Ugly will all best be tackled on 42mm or larger tires.
Type 1 fun can be ridden on a narrower tire, but you'll still be happy riding a cushy 42mm gravel set up.
This ride is self supported. Bring your own gear to change flats and make minor repairs.
Sag support will be available "On Call", but in some sections of the course that will mean walking a bit to get cell reception and or access to a road.
The pizza feast will consist of wood fired pizza with a variety of toppings. Gluten free crusts available.
