1 Miles 5k 10k Run
Sat, Jul 04, 2026 at 8:00 AM
Kick off your Fourth of July the Epic Races way: join us in downtown Ann Arbor on the 4th of July for our classic Firecracker 5K: Run, Walk, or Ruck! Our 3.1-mile course gets underway at a truly red,
white, and blue locale: the intersection of Liberty and 4th... where else would you start a race on the 4th of July? Racers then loop around downtown and come in for a spectacular star-spangled finish in front of thousands of spectators.
2025 Schedule of Events:
6:30 AM — Packet Pick-Up and Race-Day Registration open
7:45 AM — Packet Pick-Up and Race-Day Registration close
7:47 AM — Hot dog eaters to the stage
7:50 AM — Pacers to line up
7:52 AM — Remarks
7:55 AM — Nation Anthem
8:00 AM — 200-meter Kids’ Dash
8:05 AM — Ruckers Start
8:08 AM — Hot Dog Eating
8:10 AM — 5K Start
8:20 AM — 1 Mile Fun Run Start
Add an all-American angle to your outing by opting for one of our 3 special holiday divisions:
☆It's Back for 2026☆
Rucking Division: Rucking is simply walking or hiking while carrying a weighted rucksack or backpack. It is a staple of military training, as soldiers must be able to carry weapons, food and other supplies for long distances. Embrace an even HEAVIER challenge when you sign up for the Ruck Division.
The Flag Carrying Division: Participants in this patriotic category will run or walk their 5K proudly bearing a mounted 3 x 5 American flag from start to finish.
Hot Dog Eating Division: It’s simply not the Fourth of July without hot dogs, and those who choose this challenge — up to 20 competitors — will try to chow down on four dogs in 76 seconds, then get their 5K underway. Consider it our version of the world-famous Nathan’s Hot-Dog Eating Contest, which is held annually in New York City every Independence Day.
Don't have the time for 5K? Try our timed 1-Mile Fun Run! A fun, friendly course awaits runners and walkers of all ages who want to show their Firecracker fervor but with a little less mileage. Whether you choose to make it competitive or relaxed, enjoy this frolic through downtown on the 4th of July!
Our littlest firecrackers are invited to make a bang all their own in our Kids’ 200-Meter Dash. Open to competitors ages 8 and under, our Kids’ Dash offers children the opportunity soar like eagles down Liberty Street, completing their race at the same finish line as Mom or Dad!
Kids can continue celebrating Independence Day at the corner of State and William, where they can take part in the Epic Races float in the Ann Arbor Jaycees' 4th of July parade (accompanied by a parent or guardian)!
The Firecracker 5K is walker friendly!
Sunglasses and medals for all participants in all divisions!

What are your kids doing this summer? Not only will Fast Feet Running Camp help answer that question, but also your kids become better runners. Fast Feet Running Camp will be led by Coach Mike
Wojciakowski (Woj), who is USA Track & Field Level II certified coach who has a passion to work with youth. Coach Woj has spent over two decades coaching cross country and track at Aquinas College, along with being the coach for RunGR.
The Fast Feet Running Camp offers kids (aged 5-12) an introduction to the fundamentals of track and field. The camp will give future track stars a chance to gain experience, knowledge and skills in a fun, energetic atmosphere. An overview of proper warm-up, stretching, and nutrition will be tailored to each age group and coupled with drills and exercises to increase motor development and to improve flexibility. The values of teamwork and sportsmanship will be encouraged in our daily relay races, while positive reinforcement will act as a catalyst for increased confidence. The camp will also feature a daily snack, cotton t-shirt, and entrance into RunGR’s Magic of the Mile, which will be held at on July 9th.
To ensure that each kid is able to get Coach's attention, each group will be limited to 30 kids. Ages 5 - 6 will meet from 3pm to 3:45pm and ages 7 - 9 from 4pm to 4:45pm and ages 10-12 from 5pm to 6pm on July 6, 7, & 8. Fast Feet Running Camp will take place on Aquinas College's campus in the Alksnis Athletics & Recreation Building. To be guaranteed a shirt, kids must be registered by June 28.
For more information, email Coach Woj at [email protected] or call 616.856.0130. Fast Feet Running Camp is another great event brought to you by RunGR!

This is your chance to run West Michigan's favorite 25, 50, 100 and 200 mile relay, The FRED!!
The FRED Running Relays are a fun and challenging TEAM effort, where participants combine to run their
chosen distance. You will form a team, plan out who is running which sections and on race weekend, will load up the vehicle and embark on the challenge!
Our course runs on the FULLY PAVED White Pine Trail, right up and down the heart of beautiful Michigan, through the woods, the country side and around Lake Cadillac. The trail was once the Grand Rapids - Indian Railway, retired in 1985 and now operates as a 92 miles paved trail, stretching from Grand Rapids up to Cadillac.
25 Mile Relay is Saturday morning, from Sand Lake, Michigan, running south and ending at Third Nature Brewing.
50 Mile Relay is Saturday morning, from the Big Rapids White Pine Trailhead and progresses south, ending at Third Nature Brewing.
100 Mile Relay starts Friday night in Cadillac, where runners will work together, progressing south and ending at Third Nature Brewing.
200 Mile Relay starts Friday morning and is the longest distance, is 36 legs/spurs, traveling from Belmont, north to and around Lake Cadillac, then returning to Belmont. Each leg is between 2 to 9.5 miles in distance. Teams often will use two vehicles with up to 6 runners in each, allowing vehicles to alternate turns being active on the course, while the nonactive vehicle rests.
Thanks to the efforts of West Michigan Trails Origination, the State of Michigan and events like this, we can enjoy such an amazing and scenic trail. A percentage of proceeds from this event, go to the West Michigan Trails Organization, who continues their efforts to provide more miles of paved and pristine trails, for our everyday use.
