track trail race along the stunning cliffs of the Bold Coast together with an inland section through mud and rocks and along slippery bog bridging.2022 DNF rate for the 50k was 37% and 2023 DNF rate was 32% The Course does not have huge amounts of elevation change but can be extremely slippery, particular with rain and ice as there may be on race day. The roots are slippery, the rocks are slippery, the mud is slippery, the bog bridging is extremely slippery, and some of it is also wobbly, broken, unstable and in many places has 6” long nails projecting from it. Other sections behave like a teeter-totter and if you (or someone else) steps on one end, the other end, may flip up in someone’s face. Please be careful on them – and along the unfenced cliff tops! The course is a figure 8 with a short middle section run twice on each lap. Each lap is about 16.7 kms (10.4 miles). Please pay attention to which loop you are on. You must return to the Start/Finish/Aid Area at the end of each lap. 50K
runners must ensure their bib number is noted by the Start/Finish marshal on setting out on their second and third laps. All course turns and junctions will be well marked with blue surveyor’s flags. A course map is here: and a Strava segment here: Strava Segment Mandatory Kit equipment will be checked at the start of each lap.The only aid station is in the Start/Finish area, there are no aid stations on the course, you must be self-supporting for all requirements - expect each lap to take between 2 and 4 hours.Drop bags, including chairs and small pop-up tents can be left in the Start/Finish area. Bash History 2025 The Bash lived up to its hype bringing us stunning weather (partly cloudy, 40's, light wind) for the sixth edition ( we missed 2020 due to covid). The three-loop, figure-eight course delivered its usual challenge of slippery rocks, roots, mud, cliffs, and bog bridges, testing even the most
seasoned trail runners. Congratulations to all the finishers! Results with Split times can be found here on Webscorer. In the Fun Run, a single loop of the Bash figure 8 course, Maeve Woodruff (20, Brunswick, ME) was the top female and third overall in 2:02:36 with a new Women's Course Record by 3 minutes and 35 seconds! In second place, Sianna Emery in 2:25:00 and Rebecca Cross with a Grand Masters Record of 2:29:05. Patrick Caron (28, Needham, MA/ Bar Harbor, ME) captured his third win in four years with a time of 1:31:02. With David Loome, 1:47:11 a top 5 all time performance and third Erik Lenz, in 2:05:14. Of the 40 starters in the 50K Ultra, three laps of the relentless course, 26 trail runners finished, leaving us with a 35% DNF rate this year. The 14 who didn't finish, be proud you gave it a go! Every lap out there is a victory in grit, and determination. We hope to see every one of you back next year! In the men’s race, Robert Gomez (42, Porter, ME) chased the CR early with other
trail runners but the course ultimately caught up with him, claiming victory in 6:20:48. Tommy Diehl (28, Waterville, ME) battled the beast coast posting a top time in 6:28:34. Joshua Walker (37, Bangor, PA) rounded out the men’s podium in 7:02:28. In the Women's 50K Ultra field, Brynn Reese (28, Bar Harbor, ME) returned after her 2024 fifth-place finish to seize the win in 7:47:48. Lucy Hochschartner (28, Portland, ME) and Meg Miller (29, Glen, NH) followed in 8:07:28 and 8:12:49, respectively.Race Photos by volunteer Photographer David Kennedy are available in his portfolio here. 2024Complete results with splits Photo AlbumsPhotos by David Kennedy /BCR volunteer Public Google Photos album - please give credit to those who uploaded. Thank you Andrew Steinharter, Patrick Caron, David Kennedy, and Carsten Mackeldey for your contributionsA fantastic day for everyone. Thank you trail runners, friends, volunteers and spectators! The Bash didn't disappoint! The weather was spectacular and the
trails were in fine shape for a lot of fun. In the Fun Run, Bold Coaster Tim Fisher nabbed his first win in 1:55:47, nearly matching his time from 2023 just shy of 10sec. Meanwhile in 4th place overall Kate Ryan ran a blistering 2:16:40, grabbing her first win ever and notching a top 3 time on the 3 year old course! Our 50k Ultra runners put on quite the show as well. David Loome (6:54:17) just edged out Jacob Oard (6:55:44) certainly our closest race ever until the women came along and up'ed the anti. Gillian Kramer (7:29:03) continued her hot blistering pace from last year and lowered her course record by 4 minutes while being chased down by Rachel Redfearn (7:30:07) who was under the course record and right on the heels of Gillian. Our Top 3 overall winners got a 3-pack of Raye's Mustard, crafted right in Eastport, ME!A huge congratulations to all the finishers! History Continued 2023:2023 Results Thank you everyone for a successful 2023 event!. Meanwhile congratulations to all the 2023
finishers in the fun run and ultra. An accomplishment you should be so proud of.2022With amazing conditions on Sunday we saw performances never seen before at the Bash! In the Fun run 10.5mi event, Women's winner in 2022, Alice Hotopp returned to the Bash from Bangor, Maine to lower her course record setting the mark at 2:06:11, a super impressive rip around the Bold Coast Trail! In the men's division 3 time winner Patrick Caron took the course quite literally and took a nasty spill somewhere around halfway, returning a bit banged up and bloody. He just missed his course record time by about 3 mins, running 1:32:29 on Sunday. In the Ultra Gillian Kramer of Gorham, Maine ran away with the Women's title and setting a course record in a time of 7:33:17. Besting the previous course record by about 23 minutes! In the men's Ultra the course record from 2021 was in danger from the first lap. Erik Brooks of Lincolnville, Maine ran away with some impressive lap times running 6:00:55, setting the
course record by over 33 Minutes. We saw runners from all over Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Brunswick, Canada, Nova Scotia, Canada, Prince Edward Island, Canada, and Rhode Island. The fun run saw a 100% finisher rate. The Bold Coast Trail showed how BOLD it was leaving the 50k ultra with a 64% finisher rate. Higher than last year! Finally we'd like to Thank every single one of our participants from near and far who made the trek to Cutler to join us for a spectacular day. The club volunteers, stepped up once again, and showed our Trail Running Community how spectacular the Bold Coast truly is! Thank you also to Bar Harbor Foods of Cutler for the in-kind donation and Bold Coast Coffee of East Machias for their wonderful roasted Coffee for our top finishers.2022 2022 Results The third edition featured a new portion of trail built by the State and Maine Conservation Corps which allowed us to expand to a true 50k distance for the ultra! The introduction of the figure 8 loop
meant no more switching directions. Weather being a constant variable on the Bold Coast, made it for a unique and tough experience in the pouring rain and 40's (4c). 20212021 Results The Second edition of the Bash featured a similar format to 2019 with the addition of 3 lap (30mi distance) course. 2020 Cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic 2019 2019 ResultsThe Inaugural year featured 2 distances and a slightly different format to the course. A 10 mile, and 20 mile, runners switched directions every lap, experiencing the Cutler Bold Coast from a different perspective. Join us on August 22, 2026 on our beautiful island for the second Campobello Coastal Challenge!
This event is the joint effort of Roosevelt Campobello International Park, Herring Cove Provincial Park and Dutch Viking Events and is a celebration of the cooperative and collaborative international relationship that Campobello Island is defined by. A portion of all registrations will be donated to the Campobello Island food bank.
This will be a day you won't forget!
Event Description
One race, two parks! The Campobello Coastal Challenge offers participants the opportunity to experience the rugged beauty and scenic coastal trails of Campobello Island. Runners will encounter a variety of terrain including forested trails, rocky beaches, coastal cliffs, and bog boardwalks – all while soaking in stunning views of the Passamaquoddy Bay.
As runners make their way through some of the very same trails that President Franklin Roosevelt established during his summers on the island, they are sure to gain his same sense of appreciation for the breathtaking natural landscape that Campobello Island has to offer.
The 25 km and 50 km races begin at the historic core of Roosevelt Campobello International Park and wind their way across the rocky coastal outcrops and tidal bogs of the Roosevelt Campobello International Park. Runners will then cross over into Herring Cove Provincial Park where they will continue across a 2.7 km stretch of beach before returning to the trails and enjoying a final leg through pristine old growth Acadian Forest and finishing back at the start line.
The 10 km race begins at the same start line and follows the 25 km loop route for several kilometers before spurring off inland and into Herring Cove Provincial Park where runners will then continue on the same final leg as the 25 km loop.
Runners will face a variety of challenging terrain but will be equally rewarded with pleasant coastal temperatures and spectacular coastal views; bald eagles, seals, porpoises, and whales are possible to see from the route.
Race kit pick up
Race kit pick up will be available on Friday night from 6 to 8pm at Herring Cove campground (136 Herring Cove Rd, Welshpool) and on Saturday morning from 7am at Roosevelt Campobello International Park close to the start/finish area. There will be signs pointing you in the right direction.
We are a cup-less event!
In order to leave just footprints and nothing else we do not provide cups for water, so you have to bring your own cup, bottle, bladder etc.

The half-marathon course starts near the Refuge Headquarters building and meanders south through meadows and flowages. Keep your eyes open as you make your way, to the right is the 'Wilderness area', wildlife might be cheering you on! The first of two road crossings take place at 3.8 miles. A left onto Charlotte Rd, then a quick right onto Snare Meadow Road. The road crossing onto Snare Meadow Road (a grassy Refuge access road) will be staffed. Please stay on the left facing oncoming traffic until you cross at Snare Meadow - and remember to thank the volunteers! The first self-serve aid station is on the right as you enter the trail / Snare Meadow Road. This is also the first relay exchange point.
Rolling terrain awaits as you make a gradual climb to Snare Meadow itself. Eaton Heath at mile 7.5 could be a great chance to spot a Moose! You next make a right onto Moosehorn Ridge Road (actually another grassy Refuge access road) - all turns will be well marked. You will then descend past Howard Mill Flowage on the right and make a left onto the gravel Goodall Heath Road before in less than a mile crossing the paved Charlotte Road. Take the next right to proceed towards the Finish - except you by-pass it to the left where the second self-service aid situation (water only) and second relay exchange point is situated. Finally you have a quick 3 mile loop via Mile Bridge Road and Two Mile Meadow Road then back past the Refuge headquarters to the Finish Line.
Relay Description
Teams of 2 or 3 can complete the 13.1-mile course
Leg 1: 4 miles - From start line to mile 4 just after Charlotte Road crossing onto Snare Meadow Road. Use caution at road crossing!
Leg 2: 5.9 miles- From the Charlotte Rd and Snare Meadow Rd. intersection (approx 1.5 miles south of the Refuge entrance) to the self-serve aid station opposite the Finish Line.
