Moonrise Bike Ride is Ottawa Bike and Trail's premier bikepacking, music, and food festival on the Flint Hills Trail State Park.
Moonrise Main Event
Experience an unforgettable bikepacking adventure
on the Flint Hills Trail State Park! Ride from Ottawa to Pomona Lake State Park, where you'll enjoy a chuckwagon dinner, a relaxing evening of live bluegrass music, and a moonlit ride before settling in to sleep under the stars. Most importantly, you'll connect with fellow riders and create lasting memories.
Moonrise Campfire (Optional 2nd Night)
Want to extend the adventure? The 2-night Campfire Option starts Friday afternoon with a social gathering at Riverbank Brewing in Council Grove. From there, you'll ride 20 miles along the Flint Hills Trail to Basecamp in Allen, Kansas, where you'll set up camp, enjoy a delicious meal, and gather around the campfire for live music.
On Saturday morning, after a hearty breakfast, you’ll continue on a 32-mile ride to Pomona Lake State Park for the Main Event festivities. On Sunday, the journey continues with a ride along the Flint Hills Trail, finishing in Ottawa.
Point-to-Point Rider Support
For riders starting at Base Camp Flint Hills (1-night) or opting for the Campfire Option (2-night), this will be a point-to-point ride—starting in Council Grove and finishing in Ottawa. This format allows for better rider support and offers the unique opportunity to experience nearly 72 miles of the Flint Hills Trail. Riders must arrange their own transportation or take advantage of our shuttle service. This does not affect the 1-night Main Event riders, who will start and finish in Ottawa.
Rider Shuttle Transportation
To accommodate point-to-point riders, we are offering two shuttle options:
A Friday shuttle to transport riders from Ottawa to the starting point in Council Grove.
A Sunday return shuttle for riders needing transportation back to Base Camp Flint Hills or Council Grove.
This service provides flexibility—allowing riders to park at either the start or finish while we handle bike and rider transport. Spots are limited, so register early to secure a shuttle option when signing up for either the 1-night Main Event (Council Grove Start) or the 2-night Campfire Option.

The Patriots Run was founded in 2002 in the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks on America. The purpose of this multi-race event is to thank and honor all who serve; our military, fire,
police, first responders, and their families. It is a race created by patriots, for patriots, supporting those who daily sacrifice for the freedom and safety we enjoy in our great country. Proceeds from the Patriots Run will provide Folds of Honor scholarships to families of fallen or disabled service members.

Racers will enjoy hundreds of acres of nature, hiking, and biking trails, as well as beautifully preserved prairie grasslands. The park sits on the western edge of Johnson County, known to its most
avid patrons as the "gem" of western Johnson County. The race will happen rain or shine, so ensure you are prepared for any type of weather. Looking for a little adventure? Check out the 2-hour race that is all on foot (TREKKING ONLY) and open to solos and teams. Have a bike and ready to crush the mountain bike trails? Check out the 6-hour race that will have racers trekking, biking, and paddling their way through the park. The team that completes all the checkpoints (or more than other teams) with the fastest time will win the race.
2-hour racers will trek to all of their checkpoints and may encounter a few extra challenges along the way. This course is designed for the beginner, but you may encounter a few difficult challenges. Racers will need to be prepared for 6-8 miles of trekking on paved trails as well as through brush, trees, and maybe even water.
6-hour racers will receive topographic maps with all checkpoints pre-plotted at packet pickup on race morning. The race will include trekking both on and off hiking trails, biking on single track and paved trails, paddling on the lake, all while orienteering their way through the park. Racers should be prepared for 20+ miles of biking, 10 miles of hiking, and 1-2 miles of paddling.
There will be several checkpoints that are mandatory (transition areas), but most are not. A team could choose to skip checkpoints and shorten the course and still have an official finish, though probably not place in the top 10. Both courses you will have access ONLY to the gear, food and drink that you have on your bike or in your pack. Checkpoints for the 6-hour Course will be on Topographic maps. The maps are pre-plotted topographic maps from mytopo.com. Your team will need a basic understanding of terrain features and distance measure. There will be very few rules of travel, teams will choose their own route/strategy (with mode of travel specified for checkpoints).
Please note that this event is self-supported meaning you carry with you, all that you need: water, food, first aid, etc. Maps will be distributed on the morning of the event at check in.
The 2-hour race will also be part of the Kansas City Corporate Challenge Fall Series. If you are interested in more information about KCCC, click here.
Please direct any questions, comments, or concerns to Race Director, Katy Renner at [email protected]
