Indiana’s youngest runners are hitting the streets for the 500 Festival Rookie Run, presented by Peyton Manning Children's Hospital! This non-competitive fun run gives kids ages 3-10 the chance to get active and experience the excitement of a race - complete with a start and finish line production, cheering section, participant bib, and finisher medal.
The Rookie Run takes place during Kids’ Day, Indiana’s largest free outdoor festival for kids! Held in downtown Indianapolis, the race happens one block north of Monument Circle at Ohio and Meridian streets. Race distances are based on age, and every participant will receive a goodie bag, a bib, and a finisher’s medal - just like the Indy Mini runners!
Join us for the special 20th anniversary edition! This 5K event is perfect for competitive and fun runners, walkers, joggers, moms, dads, children and even pets! Event proceeds help families with children in area hospitals stay at the nearby Ronald McDonald House at little or no cost. That way, parents can be with their children throughout treatment without worrying about a large hotel bill. So far, IREM Indy, with the help of our sponsors and participants, has donated over $335,000! All of our great efforts go a long way, earning IREM Indy the prestigious Helping Hand Award and having a room named after us at the Ronald McDonald House! . There are cash prizes for top three male and top three female finishers plus age group awards. There will be games and activities for kids, plus a Rookie Run after the main 5K event!! The course is back on the popular Indianapolis Downtown Canal.

Four friends launched BirdiesRunClub in March 2025 at Celebration Plaza Amphitheater, right at the heart of Indianapolis's Canal Walk. Their vision was simple but clear: blend fitness with genuine friendship in a space where pace matters less than presence. Every Friday evening, about 25 runners show up to move together along the scenic canal routes, with multiple pace groups ensuring no one runs alone. The crew welcomes all backgrounds and abilities, treating each gathering as an opportunity to share stories, laughter, and the kind of connection that happens when people move through a city together. BirdiesRunClub has quietly become a fixture in Indianapolis's running landscape, proving that the best runs aren't always the fastest ones.
