The LRC Kids Run Club is a running club for children to prepare them for a lifetime of running.
The program is held during the school year, is gender-neutral, and is designed for children in kindergarten through fifth grade, regardless of school affiliation. The emphasis of this program is on participation and developing a healthy lifestyle as opposed to being a competitive running program. The workouts include warmups, relays, distance runs, games, and stretching.
Youth sports provides opportunities to exercise, make friends, gain competence, build confidence, learn about teamwork, take risks, develop character and self-discipline. Kids need movement to grow healthy and strong. Regular physical activity strengthens muscles and bones, helps prevent health problems like diabetes and heart disease, and reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression. Physical activity also clear benefits for life at school. Students who are physically active tend to have better grades, miss fewer school days, and have better focus in class.
Parents are required to stay at the practice location for the entirety of the workout and are encouraged to be physically active in eyesight of their child.
If you are not familiar with Bonnet Springs Park, you can find the location of the Family Lawn on their park map.
For students in 5th - 8th grade, we offer a Summer Development Program during the summer that transitions into a cross-country racing experience in late summer.
Positive & Safe Sport Environment
The Lakeland Runners Club is committed to offering programs for athletes to enjoy a welcoming and respectful environment where diversity is actively embraced. At any age, our objective is for athletes to use the skills they have learned to contribute to the well-being of their communities.
Additional Resources for Parents
Our volunteer coaches are trained to protect young athletes from abuse through the Safe Sport Act training. Free resources are available for preschool through high school athletes and their parents and are designed to cover the issues of misconduct in sport and helps parents ensure their children have a positive and safe sport experience.

Runs are better with a buddy! Join the LRC on Saturday mornings for a community run starting at the Black & Brew Lake Morton (library) location.
Runners have a choice to start at 5:30 or 7:00 AM, with check in starting 15 minutes before each run. We will have maps for 5k, 6 mile or 10 mile routes - but you can run anywhere that feels comfortable to you!
Restrooms will be available at 6:45 AM, and the bistro will be open at 7:00 AM for coffee and breakfast.
The 5:30 AM run is best suited for runners able to maintain a 8:30 min/pace for 10 miles. The 7:00 AM run is suitable for all distances and paces. There may not be someone your pace every weekend, but the more people who come, the more chances there are to make a connection.
We will circle up for announcements and take a group photo, then start together. The run coordinator will help match up runners based on pace, but there are no official pace leaders, and the group will naturally spread out.
There will always be people doing shorter runs, some will continue on for more miles, and others will make up their own routes. It’s all good, we're glad to have you, and hope you'll join us on the patio for fellowship after your run.
Runners who sign up and check-in will receive a free tee after completing 10 runs.
Check-in at each run online. There will be a QR code on display to make it easy.

Looking to push your limits while running alongside a supportive and motivated group? The Pack offers structured workouts designed to help runners improve their speed and endurance, all while fostering a sense of camaraderie.
Every Tuesday, the group runs an interval workouts around scenic Lake Hollingsworth, executing each rep together. Everyone runs their own pace, with faster runners getting a bit more recovery between reps.
Thursdays focus on tempo or fartlek runs, where the group spreads out across the route. Our coordinator pairs runners when possible, so no one is running solo.
Is The Pack right for you?
This group is best suited for runners who comfortably maintain a conversational pace (Zone 2) of 8:30/mile or faster. If you're eager for structured workouts with a dedicated group, they'd love to have you join them!
The Pack Runs are free and open to all runners in our community. Your annual registration helps us follow best practices for nonprofit organizations and is necessary for our insurance program.
Please always bring a water bottle and a towel.
LRC Members are eligible to receive a Lakeland Runners Club Pack Runner shirt after 10 check-ins.

LRC Workouts are led by certified coaches and provide the opportunity for runners to gain fitness, improve speed, and learn how to effectively complete interval workouts.
WHO ARE THE WORKOUTS CREATED FOR?
Intermediate runners. You are an intermediate runner if you have been running consistently for at least six months, and have been injury-free for the past three months. The workouts are designed for the full range of intermediate runners, and are meant to be high intensity for YOUR pace and safely push you out of YOUR comfort zone. Every runner who attends wants to be faster, even if their pace is different than yours.
Beginner runners. You are a beginner if you have been running less than two to three days a week consistently for 6-to-12 months. This is the minimum time required for connective tissue and muscles to adapt to the stress of running consistently. Beginners are warmly welcomed to do their own run and meet other runners from the community but are discouraged from joining the workout to avoid injury or burnout.
Advanced runners. You are an advanced runner if you are at or near your genetic potential. This is your opportunity to help guide and mentor beginner and intermediate runners so they too can work toward their full potential.
Workouts will last approximately 1 hour and will include a warmup, some drills, and a cooldown in addition to the workout.
Your total distance will be approximately 3—6 miles (pace and workout dependent) and coaches will help you with the right pace and number of intervals. You'll warm up with a 10-minute easy run followed by form drills to loosen up and activate your body for a smooth transition into the workout phase. It’s also important to do an easy 10-15 minute cool down afterward to transition your body into a recovery phase.
What to bring: water, towel, and a GPS watch if you have one (not required).
