Voted best 10k in the state of Colorado by Colorado Runner Magazine in 2010!
This is a challenging trail run with beautiful terrain and breathtaking scenery. The 10K race begins at 10,000 ft at the summit of Rabbit Ears Pass. The course begins by heading uphill on USFS dirt roads and 2 track, and then then heads downhill on single-track, ending on a cross country single-track. The total elevation gain and loss are about ~1,200 feet each.
*Although this race is listed as a 10k, the actual distance comes out to 6.8 miles. We will have one aid station on the course about 3.4 miles in (the 5k race option does not have an aid station). We HIGHLY recommend that you bring your own water.
Horsetooth Reservoir and Lory State Park are ideal locations for a swimrun event due to their scenic and varied landscapes. The event offers a combination of open-water swimming in the reservoir and trail running through Lory State Park’s diverse trails, which cater to different skill levels and provide breathtaking views. The proximity of these two venues allows for a seamless transition between swimming and running, making it an exciting and challenging experience for participants and providing event organizers with access to amenities and support infrastructure. Ease into race mode with a pre-race shakeout in the Swimming Area at Horsetooth Reservoir. Spend your post-race recovery in the sauna and cold plunge at the finish line.
